Humans, cars and planets are made of molecules. And molecules are made of atoms. Atoms are made of protons, neutrons and electrons. What are they made of? This is the standard model of particle physics, which explains how everything is put together and the forces that mediate all those particles.

When we look up at the night sky, we see the stars as tiny points of light. But did you know that half of these points of light are not one star, but two or more circling around each other!
It's very common for stars to form with siblings, we call them binary stars, but the stars shown in the artist's representation in today's album artwork are the hottest and most massive pair ever spotted so close together.

What’s new this week:
We’ve had an abundance of news stories for the past few months, and not enough time to get to them all. So we’ve started a new system. Instead of adding all of the stories to the spreadsheet each week, we are now using a tool called Trello to submit and vote on stories we would like to see covered each week, and then Fraser will be selecting the stories from there. Here is the link to the Trello WSH page (http://bit.ly/WSHVote), which you can see without logging in. If you’d like to vote, just create a login and help us decide what to cover!
We record the Weekly Space Hangout every Friday at 12:00 pm Pacific / 3:00 pm Eastern. You can watch us live on Google+, Universe Today, or the Universe Today YouTube page.
You can also join in the discussion between episodes over at our Weekly Space Hangout Crew in G+!

Guests: Andrea Jones, Daniela DePaula, Jan van Mujijlwijk, Nando Pellegrini, Bruce Halász,
Thank you to everyone who participated in International Observe the Moon Night (InOMN) 2015! And thank you to everyone who shared your pictures and stories through InOMN social media! 554 sites registered this year–almost 100 more than in 2014.
To thank you for participating in this global celebration of lunar and planetary science, we are going to bounce you off the Moon!
Well, not you specifically. But, we are going to bounce the map of all registered InOMN 2015 events off the Moon as part of the OPTICKS live event on Tuesday, October 27. If you participated in an InOMN event, your event information will go to the Moon as radio waves!
We will also select 9 photographs to bounce off the Moon along with the InOMN event map, through a random drawing. If you took a picture during an InOMN event, or if you have or take a picture of anyone looking at or learning about the Moon that you would like to add to the drawing, post them to the InOMN Flickr or Facebook pages, or using #moonnight on Twitter by Sunday, October 25. If you participated in InOMN 2015 and haven’t yet registered your event, register by October 25 and you’ll be on the event map sent to the Moon. Links to the InOMN social media pages are available through http://observethemoonnight.org (scroll to the bottom of any page on the website).
Then, everyone is invited to join us live in a CosmoQuest Google Hangout as the Moon Bounce Team, including visual artist Daniela de Paulis and radio amateurs around the world, bounces these images off of the Moon and answer your questions on October 27 at 23:00 Central European Time / 6:00pm Eastern Daylight Time / 3:00pm Pacific Daylight Time. Watch the InOMN website or InOMN social media for the Hangout link, which will be posted an hour before the event.
Thanks again for participating in InOMN 2015! Mark your calendars: next year InOMN will take place on October 8, 2016.

Have you ever been doing thermodynamics in a closed system and noticed that there’s a finite number of ways that things can be arranged, and they tend towards disorder? Of course you have, we all have. That’s entropy. And here in our Universe, entropy is on the rise. Let’s learn about entropy in its specific, thermodynamic ways, and then figure out what this means for the future of the Universe.
