Main idea: God will not allow sin to go unpunished nor will he allow the righteous to perish.

God knows the hearts of man (1:3, 7, 9).

God is a stronghold for those who take refuge in him (1:7).

God is a fierce adversary of those who oppose him (1:2-3, 8).

God will conquer evil (2:1-3:19).

Jesus the Redeemer: Then, Now, & Forever
1 Peter 1:3-12

Main idea: Jesus’s work on the cross made salvation possible for all generations: past, present, & future.

Before the advent of Christ, faith was placed in the promised Messiah (1 Peter 1:10-12; Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:22-25).

After the advent to today, faith is placed in the person of Christ (1 Peter 1:6-9; John 3:16).

Salvation through Christ is guaranteed for all time (1 Peter 1:3-5; Hebrews 8:1-6).

Main idea: The people of God are to be a light in a dark place.

The follower of God is expected to walk in the ways of God (6:8).

God’s compassion does not cancel his anger (1:2-3:12; 6:1-16).

God’s wrath does not quench his love (5:7-15; 7:1-20).

To be a light in the darkness, we must reflect the source (5:1-9).

God calls whom he wills (Jonah 1:1-17).

God saves those who rebel against him knowingly (2:1-3:3).

God saves those who rebel against him unknowingly (3:4-10).

Jonah’s disobedience spawned from a lack of love (4:1-11).

Main idea: God is evident through times of hardship.

Suffering serves a purpose: we either turn to God or turn from God (1:1-2:11).

Turning to God does not change our circumstances, it changes us (2:12-2:27).

Trials and tribulation will have their end. Our hope is in the Lord (2:28-3:21).

Our weakness is made strong in Christ and in the church (12:14-13:13).

2 Corinthians 11:1-33

Main idea: Christians must be aware of and be able to identify a false gospel.

We must be committed to the Gospel so that we do not stray (11:1-4).

We must know the Gospel so that we are not deceived (11:5-15, 21-22).
• Do not be deceived by lofty credentials (11:21-22).
• Do not be deceived by convincing words and arguments (11:6).
• Do not be deceived by Servants of Satan (11:13-15).

We must anticipate the obstacles of Gospel ministry (11:16-33).

We must show concern for the uprightness of the church (11:28-29).
