On this episode of The AIE Podcast...
    - The Nomads Are Official!
    - Another officer in the hotseat!
    - Meetups all over the place!
    - We’ve got the Blizzard buzz!
    - And we chat with CaptHunter and RattoZatto about AIE in Star Trek Online!
All that and more coming up right now...
    AIE NEWS
Are you a member of AIE who plays a ton of different MMOs? You are probably not alone! A group has started up that we’ve mentioned in the past, but they’ve started getting the ball rolling a lot more! A section of the forums has been set aside called AIE Nomads. Check it out, and see if it’s something you’d want to join in on.

Emperor Pel-patine has decreed that another of his army be put up for interrogation! This time? The poor soul is Droge. Surely there is something that you want to know from a fellow AIE member. Keep it clean folks, these are family friendly forums! (go to the forums!)

Speaking of such, the Emperor is asking for...volunteers for information collection. Unless you are a Bothan, it should be completely harmless. You can sign up in the forums to be on the list for the “Ask a SWTOR Guildie” threads!

We have quite a few meetups coming up in the great state of California. The AIE gang out in Pasadena will be celebrating the new year with a meetup at Lucky Baldwin’s on Saturday January 18th, the San Francisco crew will be holding a winter raid on Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose on January 25th, and the great and wonderful Belthaz is looking to put together a gathering at a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening in Los Angeles on February 22nd. And not to be outdone, the Washington D.C. group will be holding a meetup at AwesomeCon on February 18th. So if you’ll be anywhere near any of those meetups, you’ll want to RSVP on the AIE Meetup.com site and join in the fun!

Blizzard has been abuzz with changes that are coming in warlords of draenor! Among them changes to Crowd control! Lore in the forums has been talking about the proposed changes coming to CC, what they like, what they don’t and there is some buzz about the removal of some of it. If you want  to find out more head to the blizzard forums.

And speaking of blizzard, for all of you who are betting about the date of warlords of draenor, you might have to adjust your timeframes. There is a new PVP season planned between now and the next expanion’s release! Holinka on twitter announced the news on the 7th, but there seem to be no further details yet.

I’ve mentioned this in the past once before, but a former coworker who is kickstarting a CCG/Deckbuilder game is sooo close to funding. If you might be interested in such things, please check out War of Omens. If you contribute more than 10 bucks, they will give you a beta key immediately! 3 more days left on this, and a few thousand to go!
    GAME NEWS

Previously, on Star Trek Online…  We left off with the Romulan Republic establishing a new homeworld on Dewa 3, now called New Romulus.  After thwarting the schemes of the Tal Shiar, our adventurous captain learns of a great secret, and possibly the reason for Dewa 3’s desertion: An Iconian gateway.  And now, the continuation of Star Trek Online.

Before re-activating the gateway, Ambassador Worf is asked by the Klingon Defense Force to oversee the project, due to his previous experience with such technology (TNG S2E11 Contagion).  An earthquake shakes the chamber, and forces everyone to make a do-or-die decision.  Everyone flees into the gateway to avoid being crushed.  On the other side, the captain learns of plans the Iconians have for the Alpha Quadrant, as well as their hand in a number of other events.  After reactivating a gate near the Jouret System, where some Elachi forces arrive.  While piloting an ancient Obelisk class carrier, the captain is aided by the flagships of the three major factions.  The Enterprise, Lleset, and Bortasqu’.

The latest content requires that players complete the Sphere of Influence mission before being able to even set foot in the hotly contested Dyson sphere.  We learn quickly that the Voth have also found a way to the same particular section of the sphere the Klingons, Federation, and Romulans have entered, and now there’s a massive battle to secure a foothold in a place that manufactures Omega particles.  What’s the big deal with Omega particles?  Aside from theoretically being able to power whole planets with just a single molecule, they can stop warp travel in a region around it, decimating the advancement of many civilizations forever.

Not all is doom and gloom, for everyone’s “favorite” omnipotent being has decided that he wants to share in the quaint Human celebration of Christmas.  Your attendance is mandatory, and your consent is not required.  This year, a new section has been added to the winter event.  A gingerbread themed ground mission map that rather mimics the Fleet Defense mission where you have to fight against a random hostile alien race in a timely manner.  This time?  You must stop snowmen from harming gingerbread men!  There’s a special Breen ship reward for those who’ve participated enough in the race event.  Unfortunately, if you haven’t already been participating before this episode of the podcast, there’s no free way to earn this ship.  There is a and if method you can catch up, but this will require the cash shop currency.  With Lobi that comes from opening lockboxes, you can buy an item that gives 2-6 Autographed 8x10 Glossy Photos of Q.  You need 1,000 total to unlock the ship.  You have until the 16th to participate in any of the content in the Wonderland, and there’s rewards that are obtainable.

The Fleet is progressing nicely, though the progress on assets have been frozen, until the Dilithium Mine has been brought up to full capacity.  The reason for this, is a fully upgraded mine gives a discount on all other projects in other assets, making our progress much faster, and cheaper.  The mine is getting ready to unlock tier 2, out of 3.  When last we were working on the Embassy, it was in the final stretch of finishing the Recruitment line.  So far, the Spire hasn’t been worked on, aside from limited time projects that add fun visuals.  The Starbase found in Eta Eridari is now tier 3 of 5, but more notably, the Military projects have reached Tier 3, meaning we have access to early Fleet refits of ships.  These have much better stats than their normal counterparts.

Included with The Sphere expansion is the new Federation starting mission.  Just like how the Klingons got a brand new level 1-25 experience, and the Romulans were added with a fully fleshed out story arc, the Federation has a more updated and epic intro.  Your captain gets to start their career on graduation day at Starfleet Academy.  The writing is pretty fun, and you get to know your bridge officers, just like how the Romulans and Klingons do.

    Homework!

TNG Season 2: Contagion - Iconian tech, and gateways
TNG Season 3: The Best of Both Worlds - Planet where the Iconian gateway is revealed
TNG Season 6: Relics, Schisms - Dyson Sphere, and a race seen in Sphere of Influence
Voyager Season 3: Distant Origin - Voth
Voyager Season 4: The Omega Directive - What Omega particles do

The AIE World of Warcraft Love is in the Air event is just a month and a half away. This is where we celebrate Valentine’s day by holding a big group love-in complete with happy couples renewing their vows in front of a special guest master of ceremonies. Oh, and did I mention we hold it in the chapel in Stormwind? That’s right, in addition to honored guests, we need an honor guard. Heavy on the guard. Come help us share our love with the Alliance in the best way we know how, with large heavy weapons! For more information, see Syrene’s post in the forums.

For those of you that like to boldly go where no one's gone before, here’s a chance to win something no one’s won before - a starship with your own name on it! Perfect World has announced a contest to win a starship scale model of your choice, an actual physical object you can make your friends jealous over, with your own name and registry printed on it! For more information on how to win, see the Perfect World website, or find Capt Hunter’s post in the forums.

And speaking of Star Trek Online, we want to give a big shout out to the AIE STO crew for earning their 2013 starbase ornament. As Capt Hunter says in the forums, we can’t wait to see the 2014 ornament hanging there next year.

Just a reminder, if you miss being able to chat with your AIE buddies when you’re not in game, then miss it no more! AIE has our own Jabber client, so now you can sign in and chat with AIE, even when you’re stuck in that game called Real LIfe. AIE NEWS

Are you a nomad? Ever have the desire to wander the digital worlds? Well Lotwook has, and this thoughtful AIE member has started a post to see how many other wanderers are out there that might want to group up and jump from game to game and see how they feel.Trying out new games is a lot more fun with friends, and a lot of people are interested in the idea. If you are too, wander into the AIE Community forums and jump into the thread.

If you want a serious gaming machine without spending serious money, and you’re not afraid to roll up your own sleeves, AIE member Tordormore has posted some pretty impressive details in the Community forums about the machine he just built from scratch - including parts, prices, specs, and the reasons for his choices. If Santa doesn’t come through for you this year, check out Tordormre’s tips, and build your own best present.

As you can imagine, the resources that AIE provides to our members can get a bit costly - web hosting for the AIE website, the UMAMI membership database, membership for Meetup.com, yada, yada. All that has been provided for years out of the goodness of a couple of peoples’ hearts and pockets, but we’d like to help them out. We started the AIE Pass the Hat donation campaign earlier this year with the goal of covering AIE’s expenses in 2014, about $4,000, and we’re proud to say that thanks to the kindness of the AIE membership, we’re at 62% of our goal. Unfortunately 2014 is just weeks away, so time is running out. If you’d like to help out, just click the “Donate” button on the front page of the guild website.

And speaking of fundraising, it looks like our favorite space pirates are working on their own financial schemes. That’s right, the AIE EVE corporation raising taxes - but don’t worry, these aren’t real taxes, they’re entirely fake! The EVE gang has always offered several programs to help new AIE spacers, but now after their amazing retreat from an inferior but overwhelming hostile force, they are finding themselves a little short of funds to carry on the good works. So they are raising the corporate tax rate to 50% on weekends and running special ratting missions to help inject some serious cash flow - and you can help out just by logging on and blowing stuff up! What better way to thumb your nose at the IRS than by paying an outrageous amount of fake taxes to a fake corporation and not sharing any of it with them!

Direct from Dark Lord Pelell-patine himself, you are cordially invited to the Two year anniversary of both Star Wars: The Old Republic and the founding of the AIE SWTOR guild itself! The party will be tomorrow, Friday December 20th, at 9pm Eastern, both in game and in vent. So bring your best droid and your prettiest lightsaber crystal and get ready for a Forcefully good time!

And speaking of good times in a galaxy far, far away, don’t forget to join in on the Life Day event going on right now! Check the AIE SWTOR forums for links to all the details on the activities and rewards, and see Max’s special tips for participating in the Life Day snowball fights!

The secret’s out! A coded message just arrived from an AIE The Secret World courier letting us know all about the all new The Secret World Christmas Event. The event, call A Mother of a Season, will pit you against the evil Krumpus in the land of Niflheim, plus the chance to battle to become the Lord of Misrule, and I swear I’m not making this stuff up. It sounds more fun than Festivus! For more details, as always, check the forums!

Those fine hobbitses aren’t content just celebrating the season! No no! As Apolas on the forums points out there’s a letter from the executive producer Kate Paiz about what to look forward in 2014 from the LOTRO team. It’s an interesting look at things to look forward to, such as more content and less expansions. To discuss this and other great hobbitsy things (Like second breakfast) join in on the discussion!

Okay everyone it’s time to Deck the holodeck halls! Star Trek online is having a holiday event where you can earn a special 2013 ornament for your starbase! As of this writing they are already at 50% funded! Wow!! But they could use your help. If you want to participate and just hang out with some really great people, star trek online is free to play! Yes that’s right totally free!

And speaking of Star Trek Online, season 8 is out with all new zones, new enemies, new ships, new...tons of great stuff!! Including all new tutorials for federations! Capt. Hunter has been kind enough to put the trailer on the forums, so check it out!

Patch 2.1 in Final Fantasy (Shiv arrr!) is here! Along with tons of great new pets, game improvements, downtime, and new tools for the players it brings guild housing...at super crazy costs… We at AIE of course want to build a spectacular place to hang out, so Abovan has graciously allowed us all to donate to the cause via the guild bank! Check out the forums where Jasmine is constantly updating to let us all know just how close we are coming to our goal, answering any questions you have, and just generally keeping the guild up to date on our real estate purchase.

Tired of the normal holiday events? Depressed about the thought that they will all end soon? Well worry no more! The fine folks in Final Fantasy (shiv arrr!) have come up with a super fun event to look forward to! The First Annual Chocobo Dash Race Event!! Yay!! Sign ups are, of course, on the forums (go to the forums!) and the event is scheduled for January 11th! So there is plenty of time to head on over, check out the route and you know scope out the area!

Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls now has a release date!! The expansion is set to release on March 25, 2014! Blizzard, of course, has wasted no time updating the Diablo 3 site with the opportunity to pre purchase the game, both in regular and digital collector’s editions! Prices are set at $40 us for the standard and $60 for the digital deluxe. The expensive edition comes with all sorts of goodies such as a spectral hound minion, vanity gear, a treasure goblin pet for warcraft, and various starcraft goodness!

    2) This is a cross-platform game and they’re starting with Facebook (for the Alpha) but they’re targetting Steam, Facebook, Kongregate and the web, thus far.
    3) This is an Alpha, so the game is very much subject to change!

On This episode of the AIE Podcast...
Star Trek Online gets into the Holiday Spirit!
The State of the EVE corp coming soon!
Emperor Pelpatine joins us to chat about Star Wars: The Old Republic
All that and more coming up right now...
    AIE NEWS
There seems to be no shortage of things going on with the SpreadShips in Space, and this week is no exception. For those who might be interested, there will be a State of the EVE Corp meeting Friday, Dec 7th, at 10:30 EST, presumably in vent, so if you are curious, stop by! (that’s tomorrow!)

We are perhaps the last podcast to mention this due to the thanksgiving holidays, but we We wanted to wish Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street well on his new venture, and thank him for his years of work that helped make WoW the central shining jewel in the AIE Crown. Thanks much, the game will not be the same without you!

Hearthstone is really starting to ramp up the people that are participating in it, and to be honest, I’m not sure we know of anyone who doesn’t have a key that wants one! AdamC on the forums, has collected a great list of Podcasts and informational pages for those looking for all the latest info as it develops! We think a TON of folks in AIE are and will be playing this game!

We know they like to keep everything well….a SECRET, but the Nov state of the game for Secret World has come out! Our Illuminati contact and sometimes podcast-guest, RattoZatto, has all the details in the forums. Have we mentioned you should go to the forums?! YOU SHOULD.

Star Trek Online is also getting into the holiday spirit! Q’s Winter Wonderland looks to be starting up very soon, and there are some neat ships, winter tribbles, holiday foods, all sorts of things that you’ll be able to grab as a part of such. In space, no one can hear you trimming your tree
    GAME NEWS
    Galactic Starfighter~
Dropped on Tuesday 12/3 for subscribers, 1st week of Jan for preferred, and 1st week of Feb for F2P players

12 v 12 PvP~ only 4 teammates can queue at a time. Tried to super queue a couple times but was unsuccessful.

We had a few matches Tuesday night when it dropped. No first day issues to speak of.

We subbed our Wednesday night Ops for a Galactic Starfighter Boot Camp and had a fairly decent turnout.

So far, there are 2 maps available for play. Both are capture the base type of warzones. 3 targets to capture and hold. The first team to 1000 points win. I imagine more maps will be added in future content patches.

You get 3 ships to start with and can swap between upon death. There is a scout (fast, but light on weapons), a gunner (slower, but heavy firepower from a distance. Think sniper) and fighter (middle of the range). You can purchase more ships with Fleet Reqs.

The level of customization is fairly cool. You can use your companions as members of your crew for added ship benefits.

You can also adjust the colors on your ship to personalize, though this is where BW gets you. Most upgrades, colors, designs, and components can be purchased with CC. Some can be gained through ship and fleet requisitions, this part of the game’s currency.

    Impressions:
Took a few games to get the controls down. A lot of people are saying to redo your key bindings for better play experience.

The mouse is sensitive. Very. I have not yet found a way to adjust the sensitivity.

I am anticipating a night during the week for squadron based play in the future. Very easy to get a game in and very little queue time from my experience.

XP gains are not great. It’s not a viable way to level a character only by doing GS. You will want to supplement the xp with Class Quests or Space Battles, the PVE Space game that people sometime forget about.

I am the king of assists, only have one kill under my belt.

Apolas was The Red Baron his first time playing.

Max is The Man when it comes to the GS knowledge.

The Cartel Shop has many items you may want to upgrade and customize your ship, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your playstyle and wallet.

2 Year Anniversary in SWTOR for game and AIE Dec 20th~
Big events of the past year include:
The release of the expansion Rise of the Hutt Cartel in April, which raised the cap from 50 to 55.

The introduction of a new species in the Cathar.

The introduction of Makeb and Oricon, two new planets with expanded storylines and more dailies.

Recurring monthly event: Bounty Contract Week.

The SSSP turning into Galactic Starfighter and the subsequent release this week.

    AIE related events:
Yearly Remembrance Day tribute on Alderaan. Thanks to Brewdawg for helping out with that this year!

The Amazing Race: SWTOR Edition. A project that was very close to my heart.

The launch of The SWTOR Escape Podcast with Max and Sema. Something that I think the
    SWTOR community sorely needed.

The launch of our online presence via Facebook and G+ for recruitment.

And as a reminder, we also recently relaxed the requirements to join the SWTOR guild. No app is needed to try us out. Your access to guild resources is limited until you decide that AIE is right for you and you submit an app in UMAMI.

    Upcoming Events:
The Rakghoul plague is coming back. It was one of the first and most popular in game events. Zombie infections, in space. What’s not to love?

Life day is also coming back. And while it won’t be quite the same, I would direct you to the Star Wars Holiday Special if you are unfamiliar with Life Day. You can probably find it on youtube. Brace yourselves.

Battle Team Royale (with cheese) is going to try to knock out the bosses required to get a couple of the rarer speeder mounts in the game.

The Amazing Race: SWTOR Edition 2: Electric Boogaloo

Something related to Galactic Starfighter, once we are more familiar with the mechanics and gameplay potentials.
    Other notes
This month’s Ask A SWTOR Guildie is Devad/ Ste’n. Check the forums for the thread. P.S. He claims he’s Canadian, but has no idea who the McKenzie Brothers or the Trailer Park boys are.

We usually have something going most nights of the week. Sunday is Ops with LoL, Monday is SUP (who I believe are on the look out for a healer), Tuesdays are Sema’s FP nights, Wed is the 16 man Battle Team Royale (with cheese), Thursdays and Saturdays are open, and Friday is Casual FP Leveling with low toons.

There is an AIE meet-up for The Hobbit at the Alamo Drafthouse in Kalamazoo. Check the forums in the community section and/or the Meetup.com page under upcoming AIE Meetups.

Also, check out the Facebook and Google+ pages for AIE: SWTOR.

Finally, I am looking for someone that has Fraps, an active SWTOR account, and would like to assist (read~ take the lead) in the making of a few videos.

    Special Thanks to:
Max and Sema for creating and running with The SWTOR Escape Podcast. I have been thoroughly enjoying it. I can’t say it enough. Give it a listen!

And an extra special thanks to Zethran aka Cosmic Debris for always being on top of the SWTOR news and sharing it with the rest of us via the forums.

Hoots and Stu join us to chat about EVE Online!
All that and more coming up right now...
    AIE NEWS
We started out pretty strong on this one, but it appears we’ve only gotten a few percent more since then! The 2013 AIE Fundraiser has about 40 days left, and we’re only at 53% of our goal! While the officer core and a few select volunteers are keeping things running, but we really need the funds to keep things from coming TOO much out of pocket!

The 2nd movie of the Hobbit...trilogy is coming out, and I’m sure this means lots of AIE meetups, just like this one! If you are in the Kalamazoo Michigan area, our Dark Lord Pel has organized just such a thing! Check out the Meetup.com site for more details!

We don’t have a show next week, because of Thanksgiving, and Samantha Jane in the forums has started a great thread that everyone should contribute to, it’s how everyone is thankful! Let’s fill this thread up with lots of traffic!

And yet another reason to give thanks! I’m sure that everyone is listening to the great Podcast that Sema and Max do, the “Escape Podcast”, but just in case you haven’t (you should!) from the 27th of November through the 2nd of December, there is DOUBLE XP! Remember, SWTOR is free to play, and has a great group of dedicated folks in AIE playing.

The officers of Final fantasy will be holding a town hall meeting this Friday, November 22 at 10pm EST. They are making big announcements and encouraging anyone from any branch of AIE to join in on the fun!

Speaking of, Final fantasy xiv is currently holding the lightning strikes event! This event is a cross over with their latest single player game, Final fantasy crazy letter number. (Actually it’s lightning returns: Final Fantasy XIII). There are level requirements for each stage and tons of cool weapon and gear rewards and will be running until December 9th. The best part is that if you miss out on the event, don’t worry! It’s coming back in february to celebrate the north american release of the game! So go, level, have fun, and don’t stress it if you can’t quite hit cap for this first part.

Blizzard is having another pet sale for charity! From now until December 31, 50% of the purchase price toward the Alterac Brew Pup will go to the Make a wish foundation! Not only will you get a cute st. Bernard pet for yourself but also helping to fund a great cause! But wait! There’s more! If you buy the Alterac Brew Pup along with the new Enchanted Fey Dragon you will not only get a break on the price but still be donating toward this great cause!

Not satisfied with simply helping make a wish, Blizzard is currently matching employee donations for typhoon relief made the the American red cross and is encouraging players to also donate to the cause. (no mention if they will match OUR donations though!)

    - Congrats to special guildies!
    - Jedis to be de-named
    - Spammers beware!
    - Meetups! Meetups!
    - And we chat with Appolas and Dux about AIE in LOTRO
All that and more coming up right now...
    AIE NEWS
First of all, we want to give a shoutout to Pujol and Bowtocks, two AIE guildies who have decided that Real Life is better together, and will be tying the knot in Real Life. We at the podcast wish them well in their future questing!

For those of you that know Old Man and Old Lady Franks, there is a good chance you can party on their lawn now, as they’ll be rather tired (and OMF will be less codgery?) taking care of their lovely daughter Amelie Grace! She was born on Nov 5th, just last week. AIE is ever expanding!

Hopefully you were able to attend, so you already know this, but this season’s craft fair was a huge success! Massive kudos and a bagillion internet points to all those who helped make the craft fair happen, and to all those who came out and got leveled. We also had a special thanks from Henry himself! If you missed it, don’t worry, the next craft faire is right around the corner!

Just a head’s up for you Jedis that may have wandered away from The Old Republic: Bioware is purging character names from characters that haven’t logged on in a while. Which names are getting purged depends on the character level, time last logged on, and whether you’re a paying subscriber or not. For more information check the forum post in the AIE Old Republic forums.

If you’ve been following the Imperium Ludi forums, you know that AIE is always looking to expand into other games. One of those games, Wildstar, looks very promising, and if you’re interested in joining the AIE community in Wildstar, you may want to join in the Wildstar Wednesdays chat held by Durus in the AIE vent server every Wednesday at 10pm Eastern, where he will cover the latest news and events announced by the Wildstar devs earlier that day.

They’re in every MMO, you can’t escape them. Spammers! Lots of games have a built in mechanic to deal with them, but not all of them. If you are playing FFXIV, Mewkow has a macro built for this! Check his forum post called Gil Spammer Blacklist for a very simple effective macro!

So as if EVE was not confusing enough, there are some...lucky few who choose to ALSO be officers in the madness! Congrats to Catavarie, otherwise known as Orsalis Cain who has decided to peek behind the curtain as to how the SpreadSheets are maintained. Kudos and Condolences. :)

Looks like the Arizona AIE crew is at it again. They are holding another meetup, this time at Dave & Busters in Tempe on Fri December 6th. If you are anywhere within driving distance, we definitely recommend you join them. See the AIE Meetup.com page to RSVP, and if you want to arrange your own local guild hall, free free to post your own meetup event!

AIE in Final Fantasy XIV (That's 14 for you non-Romans) will be having a guild town hall meeting on November 22, 10:00pm EST.  This meeting will be held in AIE Vent.  We have big, big news to announce on that night!  Anyone in AIE is more than welcome to attend the Town Hall!  November, 22,10pm EST.

Just a reminder, AIE has our own Jabber chat server. Yes, it’s Greenwall in Real Life. Now you can chat with your friends and fellow AIE members from other games, even when you can’t be in game. There are a number of different Jabber clients to choose from, both desktop and mobile, and you can also use the jabber web app on the AIE guild website. For more information, see the AIE wiki at wiki.aie-guild.com and click on Guild Tech, or click the link in the show notes.

    GAME NEWS

    Helm’s Deep expansion:
The release is scheduled for 18-NOV-2013.
Revamp of all character skill trees
similar in style to WoW, SWTOR class trees.
it was an effort to simplify the sprawl of skills that were relativity unused and had come to be from years of game evolution.
This will open up Western Rohan to game play (5 areas). (Dux)
Kingstead:  the heart of Rohan here we find Edoras & the tombs-fields full of Simbelmyne
the Eastfold: the city of Aldburg, with dense forests, fields and swamps.
Broadacres, grasslands prime space for Rohan’s horses.
the Stonedeans, a marcher land where Dunlending and Rohirrim tenuously coexist.
the Westfold, the burning of the westfold, will Saruman answer?
The battle for Helm’s Deep (Apolas)
    The skirmish / session play:
    it’s a skirmish, available at level 10!
play as an engineer, vanguard, officer, or hybrid to fill a variety of roles in the battle.
    Character upscaling.
Starting at level 10 you will be able to access and play the Battle for Helm’s Deep. When you enter a battle, for the duration of the instance, your character will be statistically treated as if you are level 95. Your morale, power, and primary stats will be upgraded to those of a level 95, your current skills will have their damage and properties upgraded to those of their level 95 version, your gear will be upscaled as well though it will maintain its current level differential (If you are 15 and your sword is 10, you will be 95 and your sword will be 90). You will not get any new skills or traits or equipment. It’s as simple as ‘Click, Enter, Play.’
    The new Merit system (Dux)
    http://www.lotro.com/en/game/articles/developer-diary-epic-battles-merit-and-medals
rewards based on how well you handled an encounter
All quests within the Battle for Helm’s Deep include Merit.
you either start with a full or empty bar and work one way or the other.
objectives are listed in red and posted so you can keep track of them.
With the release of Helm’s Deep the Bounder’s token event will end.
get your universal toolkits while you can - 30 tokens each and they’re bound to that character.
State of the kin in a sense (Dux)
We’ve still growing, average 1-2 characters per week.
    Upcoming events:
Party / concert. I talked with Pelell for a concert, he would participate and I'll talk with Max. Update  Max and Pelell are in. Woot Woot! (Apolas).

    AIE NEWS

With Halloween coming up, it’s a good time to let a few skeletons out of the closet. Thanks to Skayne for starting up a fun little thread called AIE Confessional in the AIE: Azeroth forums, now you can share that private shocking little thing you do in game with the rest of the community. For example, do you know what Beefmaster steals when his wife isn’t looking? Or what PVP does to Lanctharus? Or just how many AIE healers secretly like to let annoying players die in the fire? It’s all in the AIE Confessional thread. What’s in your closet?

Since trying to decide by committee takes too long and often doesn’t work out well, I’ve made the ‘director’s decision’ to consolidate our Book of Heroes guilds! I’ve purged a bunch of inactive folks from Verendus and Liberates, and encouraged everyone to join up in Dignitas! They’re ready for new applicants, and are doing 2 raids a week, which will probably end up being more soon if they have a good turnout!

Nerdtacular news! What? What is this nonsense? Well nerdtacular has it’s very own twitter account! So if you want updates about N14 or random shenanigans follow @Nerdtacularshow

If you’re going to BlizzCon, and you’re going to be there Thursday the 7th at 6:30pm, you have to catch the AIE Social Hour happening at the Degrees Wine and Patio Bar at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel, which is just out in front of the Anaheim Convention Center. Now this is a bar, so there will be drinking involved, and odds are pretty good Lanctharus will amaze the crowd with another one of his drunken poetry readings. (And if he does, someone please make sure to capture it for our “Uncle Lanc, tell Us A Story” YouTube channel.) If you’re planning to be there, hit up the AIE Meetup.com page to sign up so they know to leave a light on for ya.

Don’t forget, we have Greenwall in Real Life! You can chat with other AIE members, even when you’re not in a game, by using our Jabber server. Jabber is a text chat system that works with a large number of chat clients, so you can find any client you like, point it to our Jabber server, and chat the day away. The information you need to point to our Jabber server is in the forums, or you can even use the Jabber web client found on the front page of the guild website at aie-guild.org

    AIE NEWS
In STO news, Cap’n Hunter has let us know that they recently hit tier 3 with the Starbase, and are building up the Dilithium mine. Fleet activity seems to be up with the recent return of the Crystaline Entity and STO is going to add Voths to the game (the Dinosaur species from Voyager).

We mention this quite a bit as the date gets closer, but to paraphrase our favorite anchorman “It’s Kind of a Big Deal”, for AIE in WoW, the Craft Faire gets ever closer! Check the thread for how to donate, help out, or just participate!

We’re getting a few responses in the thread about Book of Heroes but we’d love some more! It looks like currently we possibly have Dignitas, Liberates and Verendus, but condensing these down to 1 strong guild seems to make the most sense! More news as we have it!

The winged guardian mount (AKA Falcor the amazing flyin’ lion) is on sale! You can save 33% until October 22nd, which means that he costs 16.75 instead of the usual 25.00!

Blizzard has stepped up their blizzcon news today! To get us all tons more excited for the upcoming convention, they released their schedule of events and map of the show! so if you want to start planning which panels you want to attend or your travel route around the convention (To maximize your time at the guildhall of course!) the information is up on their website!

Rift has started their autumn harvest event! This event includes special holiday rifts, costumes, quests, a new area to explore and all the amazing stuff you come to expect! The event is running until november 4th, but why wait? Log in to rift (it’s free!) and join the fun!

Not to be outdone, guild wars 2 is also having a halloween event! (You’d think this was some sort of major holiday or something!) They are calling it ‘Blood and Madness’ there are open world events, two story instances, new achievements, a mad king and tons of awesome stuff for players to check out!

Settled on a server. UMAMI is active.  Playing and grouping up.  As of 8pm on 10/17, 139

UMAMI may be slightly different than other games.  Since FFXIV does not have public chat channels (chat channels, or linkshells are moderated, as in invite only), we will be using the Jabber channel ffxiv_lfo to manage invites.  Using the pre-configured client on the main aie page, it has proven to be a very easy and successful way of getting an officer for our member’s invites.

    About FFXIV.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square Enix’s 2nd crack at FF XIV.  First one was a steaming pile of moogle poo.  It was universally looked upon as a flawed game.  However, the folks at Square Enix changed teams, and re-wrote the game from the ground up.  The plot events in the previous game, did happen, but it’s knowledge is not required for understanding in the previous game.  All you need to know is the end of the era video, the now textbook way of showing how to end a mmo. :) This plays when you first open up the game.

The game has been rebuilt into a very defined modern MMO.  The zones are new, and feel like MMO zones.  Places to explore, little nooks and crannies, zone variety, and adventure around every turn.  The Engine was re-written from scratch to run on a much wider array of machines.  More game activities were also added, including the duty finder, which is our  version of the group finder, with long dungeons and small 1-3 encounter instances included.

On the re-release, yes, there were some server issues, but they have been resolved.  I have not had any issues with the game personally, and looking around, all server issues are resolved, and people are able to play this game to their heart’s content.
So, quick rundown of what FFXIV is.

    MMO, single player deep narrative.
1 character can do it all.  Class changes based on what weapon you have equipped.  Want to be a tank?  Equip your sword.  Want to DPS, equip a DPS weapon (knuckles, bow, arcanist book, ect).  Heal, equip a healing wand or staff(or a scholars book).

Jobs are like the group friendly, role specialist.  They are like a specialized version of the classes.
Crafting and gathering works the same way.  Equip the crafting or gathering tool, and you become the crafting or gathering class.

Classes get shared slots as well, so you can take some of the skills you have learned on other classes, and use them on your current class.

Most groups are 4 people in size.  There are some mini raids, or large parties, with 8 people, with raids at 24.

The Free Company (which is FFXIV speak for Guild) is up and very active,  with 20-30 people online each night!  Grouping is easy with the level sync system.  If you are level 40 and a friend wants to run a level 20 dungeon, you can do so together, and you will be leveled to the proper level, so no one has any sort of xp penalty or loss of the real experience.

Guildhests and levequest are available for quick adventures. Guildhest are like tutorials for group combat and levequests are similar to daily quests found in other games.
(Group content starts of every simple and teaches you MMO mechanics, like pull 1 group at a time, tanks picking up certain mobs, special mechanics.)]

FATEs for open world group encounters for anyone in the area. Think dynamic events from games like Guild Wars 2, Rift or Warhammer Online.

Dungeons for groups.  Most are 4 member groups,  end game ones are 8 or 24. We are starting 8 man content this weekend. Every dungeon can be completed using the duty finder, except for the final 8 man “raid”.  The first 24 man raid is expected to be released in patch 2.1 in November.

The developers plan on adding housing to the game in 2.1. First it will be just guildhall style Free company housing, but eventually they will add housing for players.

Game available on PC or PS3/PS4. PS3 users have the option to “upgrade” to the PS4 version. PS4 beta is soon(™). Regardless of platform, all players exist in the same servers, so a PC player can play with PS3/PS4 players.  Game play VERY WELL on a controller.  Can use a controller or mouse/keyboard on either platform (Or use a combination of mouse/keyboard and controller)

Server Transfers.  Still free for a couple more days as of recording of the podcast.

    - Final Fantasy opens for transfers!
    - Book of Heroes turns a new page!
    - Meetups happening all over the place!
    - The AIE Guild Hall is almost here!
    - And we talk with RattoZatto, Kamiel, and Grimbane about AIE in The Secret World
All that and more coming up right now...
    AIE NEWS
If you are currently playing FFXIV but weren’t able to get your character on Gilgamesh, which is AIE’s Server, Abovan let us know that Transfers are starting the 15th of Oct, so that’s next Tuesday, and they’ll be free for 5 days! He’ll also be here next show to talk about our presence there!

Book of Heroes has certainly had waves of interest, then RL kicks in and perhaps the lack of complexity with it being Andriod/iOS causes flagging attendance, but there are still folks playing! It looks like there needs to be another guild compression, and from what has been read, it appears you only dip down to loyalty 4 (of possible 5) when changing guilds! Please comment in the forum post BOH -- Merges II: Son of Merges in the Imperium Ludi: Minor League Games to get your voice heard.

Unfortunately Ghomus won’t be able to make this one, but there is a raid this weekend, on Harry’s Hofbrau on Sunday at 1pm in San Jose, CA! If you happen to be on the OTHER coast, there is in fact a group trying to get together at New York Comic Con as well. Check the Meetup.com site for more information on these and many others! There are 347 members of AIE signed up there, and I KNOW there are more of us out there!

It looks like it was announced this week on TMS, that Nerdtacular 2014 will be July 4th once again!  Watch Nerdtacular.com and the forums (go to the forums!)  for more details as they surface.

It appears that we’ve put ALL the SW:TOR officers through the ringer of question and answer sessions. So Dark Lord Pel-patine has moved onto fellow guildies in a galaxy far far away! this month? Cliffy! Hit up the thread on the forums to ask some random crazy things of him!

BlizzCon and the AIE Guild Hall is just one month away! Even though the Kickstarter has more than funded, it’s not too late for you to get in on the super cool rewards. You can still pick up a custom one-of-a-kind guild hall t-shirt and other goody bag prizes, and there are still spots open for a raid run with the officers or a game of Card Against Humanity with Scott Johnson. But you need to hurry! The Kickstarter ends tomorrow, Oct 11th.

Even if you don’t back the Kickstarter, or even have a ticket to BlizzCon, if you’re anywhere nearby, you really need to come experience the AIE Guild Hall. It’s free to all AIE members, even if you don’t play WoW, and will be full of food, fun, and a number of special guests. How special? So special we’re not even allowed to tell you who they are, but trust me, you’ll want to be there. And if you can’t be there in person, tune in to the live stream and chat room and join in on the fun from wherever you are.
    AIE MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This week we’re giving a shoutout to AIE members Althemage and Aeos, hosts of the Azeroth Roundtable podcast, where they cover World of Warcraft along with with a touch of news, and an open discussion about various topics. They usually have a guest from the WoW community, whether it be podcaster, segment producer, or blogger.

If you’re a member of AIE and host a podcast, have written a book, published a web comic, or have done anything else extraordinary, we want to brag about you on the show. Send details about your awesomeness to us at [email protected], and be sure to let us know if we need to warn people if it’s not quite family-friendly.

And with that, let’s get into AIE in The Secret World...
    GAME NEWS

Everything’s a secret!  So, no news!  See ya!  Have a good night!  :D

RattoZatto’s contest is ending after this live broadcast.  For those who’re listening/watching live, I’ll post a link to the contest, once the show is off the air, the winner will be selected, and contacted.  (http://forum.myextralife.com/topic/51636-win-a-free-steam-copy-of-the-secret-world/)

Whispering Tide Event:  Talk about phase 1 (Pure metal turn-in.  Keep it short, it’s over).  Talk about Phase 2 (Keep it short, it’s over).  Talk about Phase 3 and what happened on patch 1.7.4

Issue 8 title revealed!  The Venetian Agenda, MMORPG had an article about what Joel has officially announced.  It seems there will be no new Auxiliary weapon in this update.  Should we talk about TestLive changes?  Anything in there is subject to change.

New member to the Funcom Team!  The game has a new, but experienced programmer on staff.

Talk about the 3 regular weekly activities.  Nightmare Modes, Progression Night, Lair Night.  We’ve had a few live streams happen.  Perhaps they will happen in the future.  A big thanks to Durras for getting Chief Sarcan in touch with AIE.

Halloween event is coming Soon™.  It will be a repeat from Issue (2? 3?), The Cat God.  In addition, we will have a new quest storyline involving urban legends on Solomon Island.

The game is Buy-To-Play, normally running for $30, but if you check any number of online merchants, they can run a sale for about 50%.  There’s no real need to buy any of the DLC Issues (5-7) until you’ve completed the Story chain mission, that is included with the initial buy-in, as well as the content from Issues 1-4.

Review the benefits of a subscription:
1200 Bonus Points (Spends like Funcom Points, but if they’re unspent after 6 months, they go away.
10% discount on all items in the in-game store.  Effectively, you get a 1320 Bonus Points with the discount.
On the first of each month, there’s an exclusive cosmetic item given to all subscribers.
You can claim, and use the Time Accelerator, an item that gives bonus XP on monster kills that lasts for 1 hour, and has a 16 hour cooldown.  Effectively “rest XP”.
Every month a subscriber gains some Loyalty Points that can unlock exclusive cosmetic items, Essence Extractors, and the Reconstructor.
