It’s time for the The Dragon Slayer awards. These are fan selected awards for communities in Online Gaming. The awards focus on community managers, community builders and the community members of gaming. AIE has been nominated for the Best Online Community award, so spread the word -  Vote for AIE!

 

Hey guys, feeling tired? Don’t want to log into the game? Got a ton on your plate with summer activities?  Well the officers would like to remind you that AIE will always be here! The Summer of Love has been announced! July 29th - August 4th! This event is an old AIE tradition where we let our hair down and give back to the guild! Past events have included COOP Runs, The Running of the Beef, Dance parties, scavenger hunts, fishing clubs, costume contests and ninja buffers! Sophililia, our coordinator, has open slots for any guildie who has ideas about events! You don’t have to be an officer to sign up or make an event! Local to the SF Bay area in California? The meetup at Harry’s Hofbrau has been moved to NEXT Sunday, July 28th, so it would not conflict with San Diego Comic Con this weekend. The forums have all the information regarding this. I won’t be able to attend this one because of my tabletop Shadowrun campaign, but if you can go, you should!

 

World of Warcraft is now offering transmog helms in their in game store! 15 dollars US will buy you horns made of fire, a helm of ice, or this odd death-y drippy looking thing. These helms are bind to account and are stored in the transmog vendor himself.

 

Guild Wars 2 is getting some great new content this July 23! The patch is called Cutthroat Politics! From the site “The explosive events of the Dragon Bash festival left the Captain’s Council of Lion’s Arch with a vacant seat. Lionguard Inspector Ellen Kiel and Black Lion Trader Evon Gnashblade both want to fill that seat – but neither of them can win it alone!”

 

Hey buddy, wanna buy a tribble? Wait, you don’t have to. As Takemikazuch posted in the AIE Star Trek Online forums, you can now get a FREE Nukara Tribble that generates a Nukara Mark every hour that it’s attached to your character. It’s only available for a limited time, so if you’re an STO player and might be taking a break from the game, be sure to log in to claim yours.

 

Don’t forget! AIE has a Greenwall in real life! We have our own Jabber server, so you can use your favorite chat client to chat with other AIE members who are also stuck out of game battling the dreaded Work boss. Instructions are on the forums and in the AIE Wiki.

We have a new guildie of the moment! Everyone give three cheers to Zethran of Swtor aka Cosmic Debris on the forums! This player is an awesome addition to AIE and many great things were said about her including:

She is right on top of SWTOR info as soon as it drops, and then posts it to the EL forums for the rest of us. Typically, if I hear there is new SWTOR news, I'll check the forums and see she has already posted it.

She is that rare bird that is knowledgeable and able to communicate calmly and well with anyone of any level of ability.  She is a gem.

Her knowledge of the game is unsurpassed among many of her peers and yet she's humble enough to really be lovable.

So thank you Zethran for being an amazing addition to our community! And remember if you know someone who is awesome, makes AIE a better place or just helped you out when you really needed it, let the officers know by sending an email to  [email protected]!

 

Steam Summer Sale is on! That’s right, if you can get the store to load there are amazing deals going on right now! Such as...well to be honest, I have no idea, because I can’t get the store to load! If you’re a big Final Fantasy Fan, you might be interested to know there’s a groundswell of support growing in the Imperium Ludi forums for an AIE expedition into the upcoming Final Fantasy 14 MMO. If you’re up to join the fun, post in the forums and head to the FFXIV site to sign up for the beta.  There’s also another GERP expedition team heading into Neverwinter Nights. If you want to jump on that train, post in their thread in the forums

 

Last month, StupidGenius held a training class on how to make loads of money in EVE. It went so well that he’s offering to do it again. If you’re a poor space pilot looking to hit it rich, see Stu’s post in the forums to help him set the time for the next class. You heard us talk about it the last time the The Secret World gang was on. Yesterday, TSW Issue 7 “A Dream To Kill” was released to members. Free-to-play players will get it tomorrow. Issue #7 includes an all-new storyline in Transylvania involving a huge monster, and will have players explore hidden Orochi bases; meet an Orochi deserter; use the new flamethrower auxiliary weapon; and ride snowmobiles. At the end of A Dream to Kill players willl finally learn a key part of The Secret World’s mysterious story, leading up to Tokyo – the new zone expected in a future update.

Anyone who follows the AIE Podcast knows I'm always whining about all the groups in California, Arizona, etc., always having great meetups. Well apparently AIE member Jsinpriestly got tired of listening to me whine, and forwarded me a link to King Con, a fledgling board game convention trying to get off the ground in Central Georgia. It might be an interesting place for us Southern AIE members to get together. For more information, see my post in the forums

The Raid Wrapup has been on a little bit of a hiatus, but it’s back! Sihx is once again reporting on the accomplishments of our AIE raid teams, and he’s looking for your submissions! Remember, this covers all raid teams in ALL games that AIE is a part of, and he might not play them all, so try to give him some info to go off of. Brag about your raid team by replying to his post in the community section of our forums, or email him directly at [email protected].

This seems to come up now and again, so it bears repeating, for those of you that are looking to join AIE (and why wouldn’t you, we’re awesome!) it really is simple. All you need to do is go to http://umami.aie-universal.net and submit an application! All of our games are open every day for an application submission. Just please remember that every single application is looked at by a human being, and sometimes those humans like to play too!

STO’s Starbase is progressing along nicely, having reached tier 3. Tons of folks are chipping in resources to get this developed, and Cap’n Hunter is starting to spread the mission types a bit to make sure we can continue along this development path, to gain XP as well as provisioned resources. And a reminder! you can buy some of the best equipment, boosts and consumables from the base you’re helping build!

Speaking of Star Trek Online, they just release a new Fleet Asset today; the Dilithium Mine Outpost. This is a big floating asteroid that AIE Starfleet members can explore and progress through on missions that gives them the opportunity to earn additional dilithium ore every day in a variety of ways, access new vendors, receive discounts on fleet holdings, and much more. As RattoZatto says in the forums, time to get mining!

OK, you know you want to play EVE. We talk about how great the game is every week here on the podcast, you’ve heard how fun and crazy it can get, with massive space battles and all sorts of adventures and sub-plots, and if you’ve watched the video version of the podcast, you’ve even seen how beautiful it is. Well, Capt Hunter is putting out the call for all you potential space pilots to join the cause, and he’s helping by offering free 21 day trials for EVE. Just hit up his Why You Should Join AIE in EVE thread in the Community Discussion section of the forums and buckle up for some serious space madness.

For all of you AIErs in the Central or Northern California area, there is going to be an AIE community meetup next month, on Sunday, July 21st at 1pm at Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose. So if you live in San Jose, or  the San Francisco Bay Area, or anywhere around there, hit the AIE Meetup.com page to RSVP for the gathering

GAME NEWS

Issue #7 is coming soon.  Keeping in theme, Issue #6 had an “Indiana Jones” feel, #7 will have a “James Bond” feel.  It will be set in Transylvania, and starts in the Besieged Farmlands (First of the three zones).

Snowmobile chases, bridge base jumping, underground glacier bases, and even a teddy bear will be elements in this investigation of secret goings on.

There’s a new Auxiliary weapon, the Flamethrower.  It will have 4 active abilities just like previous weapons.  Joel shared that there will be a cone AoE, a flame wall ability, an AoE that does an initial effect, then can be ignited for more damage, and an ability that drops lots of damage on one target.  The secondary effect of all flame thrower skills is they apply a DoT on the target(s) that increases the damage by 10% with every tick.

Joel also shared that we’ll be able to stream audio from any number of our favorite sites directly into the game.  A prime example of this, is being able to listen to Radio Free Gaia, a The Secret World community radio station, right from the game, instead of while running your normal internet browser in the background.

There will be related, and expanded daily missions for the Envoy of Ca’ d’Oro.  This is the Council of Venice group who works with all three secret society factions in battling against the various evil forces, primarily, the Filth.

Issue #8 has gotten some sneak preview information, but this is further on the horizon.  This will be the ramp-up update that leads directly into finally entering Tokyo.

There will be a massive event where the Filth will be surging into Agartha, and by the wording of it, this world event helps to determine when exactly access to Tokyo, and when Issue #9 is released.  The event in #8 is also supposed to tie in with the one-year anniversary of the launch of TSW.

In addition, there is an Augment System coming out.  So far, all anyone knows it it’s an additional place to spend Ability Points and Skill Points to tweak the Ability Wheel abilities.

The other major content that will be involved with Issue #8, is Scenarios.  These will be regular events that happen in different locations, however, what transpires in the event will be random.  An example Joel gave is in the church at Kingsmouth, when the night cycle begins in-game, you have to protect a group of people in the church from the zombie horde.  However, some possible random events could include:  One of the people was infected, so now there’s a zombie on the inside, supplies from a helicopter is dropped off away from the safety of the church, wards start to fail and now the players have to recharge the wards.

AIE has an active group of people who participate in different bits of content in the game.  There’s Lair Night on Wednesday with the Legion of Dynamic Discord, as well as the I Have a Dream of Nightmares group who meets on Sundays and Mondays.  Dungeon runs, and daily missions are run by various people.  Currently, the Lair people are working on the Solomon Island zones.  Once those are done, the more dangerous Region bosses will start to get attempted.  The Nightmare people are progressing through the “18’s” and are getting closer to finally doing full clears of Polaris, Darkness War, and Hell: Raised.  Soon, they will start working on Hell: Eternal, expanding into the “24’s”.

Now, we RARELY mention this...but if you haven’t gone to the forums, you’re missing out! The Imperium Ludi section there has all SORTS of games that people are getting into! New MMOs like Elder Scrolls and Marvel Heroes, and I’m sure Friend codes for the new Animal Crossing will show up there too! Join the fun, and see what folks are playing!  The first step to GERP-ing in a new game is to go there, checked the pinned post for more info.

 

We have our guest here to talk about all the crazy goings-on in Telara, but given it IS a big news item, Rift is now Free to Play! Lots of restrictions have been lifted, and Alludra, they have Pets! Ayhood will fill us in on all the details after we get through the news!

 

If you happen to be playing a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, there are a few double-XP weekends coming up very soon! Starting June 22nd, every weekend till the holiday weekend, when it goes from Thursday-Sunday!

 

Emerge from the Agartha and follow the bees, as the Secret World has a special weekend coming up this very weekend, called Black Weekend. Additional loot, recruitment bonuses, double XP and more. Seems that the game companies are becoming aware time is precious and are trying to make it hard to decide where to spend those weekends!

 

Star Trek Online, the newest addition to the AIE Family, ALSO has a bonus weekend starting today! Bonus Rep and Fleet Marks will be given all weekend, with some missions you can repeat from the past, or do them for the first time if you are a recent addition! There are also special rewards you can get from the events being run, so look for those as well!

 

As Zod have mentioned, Pet battles are a great way to earn XP in WoW. Or at least...were! It appears that one patch removed them altogether, perhaps accidentally, and now there have been conflicting reports from EU and US community Managers, and now perhaps your pet needs to be 5 levels from what it is fighting for YOU to get XP? Only time will tell how this shakes out!

 

Your fellow guildies in Guild Wars 2 are also planning an event for this weekend! For everyone who has not done so, and even if you just want to come along for the party, a map completion hunt is scheduled for Saturday at 8pm EST, even if you aren’t level 50-60, they will do their best to keep ya alive and looting for the duration! Also remember that the Dragon Bash festival is currently going on there!

Nerdtacular countdown! We are at a mere four weeks until the big event! This is just a friendly reminder to make sure all your travel plans are in order and your rooms are booked! There’s been a lot of chatter about the jabber client on the forums! What’s Jabber? Well it’s AIE’s out of game greenwall chat! More members are connecting out of game just to hang out wit the guild. Just a reminder, simply because there are so many multi-player and MMO games coming out, please do not take it upon yourself to ‘establish’ AIE in any of these games. We have an whole process where we DO move into new games, but we like to make it official! Ladies and gentlemen! We have a New Guildie Of The Moment! Everyone give three cheers for Wyllow of The Secret World! Many great things were said about this guildie including

If you’re a former Rift player who wandered off to other things and wants to see how Telara has been keeping, you might be interested to know that Rift will be free to play this weekend. This isn’t the free-to-play version that’s in the works; this is just a special deal for former subscribers who want to check the game out again to decide if they want to add it back to their game rotation when the game goes free to everyone. The free time started today, May 30th, and will last until Monday, June 3rd.

 

The Guild members of Lord of the Rings Online are taking advantage of the new Springfest in-game event! It all starts on June 1st at 9 PM Eastern time. where they will have live music, and later in the evening a foray into the Ettenmoors for PvMP (player versus monster-player). More information can be found in the lord of the rings section of the AIE forums in the AIE Springfest ‘13 thread.

 

For all you current and future starfleet captains, we are happy to announce Star Trek Online has now been added to the AIE UMAMI membership database. All current STO guild members need to sign up in UMAMI to register their characters. AIE’s starfleet admirals will be conducting a purge of all guild members in game that are not in UMAMI on June 29th, so make sure your captains are accounted for. Big thanks to the hardworking Stigg for making the update

The AIE Cookbook is a hit! At least according to Beefmaster and Beefywife. The Beefs posted on the forums about the scrumptious dinner they had using Grudek’s Tater Tot Casserole recipe.  If you’d like to feed your own AIE horde, you can get a copy of the AIE Cookbook in the Frogpants store for just $19.95. The cookbook is full of beautiful illustrations by our own master cartoonist and head nerd Scott Johnson, and of course wonderful home-grown family-favorite recipes from dozens of AIE members. All profits go to fund AIE in Real Life events, such as the Guild Hall at Blizzcon, so it’s good for AIE as well as your belly.

 

World of warcraft has a new mount for sale The armored Bloodwing! If you have 25 dollars american, and feel like you don’t have anything wicked cool to ride around azeroth on, we suggest you give this shadow bat a look.

 

If you follow the AIE EVE forums, there appears to be some interesting hubbub going on concerning the defense of our corporation and the TEST alliance. Lanc, you do part-time work in the space race; is there anything you can share about the fracas?

 

The great battles of 1-SMEB

According to DOTLAN 2,600 ships have been lost since the beginning of the engagement.

TEST Alliance alone fielded over 1200 pilots for battles 1 & 2 and 800 for the third.

Have no fear TEST was victorious but it si not even summer yet.

Maxx on the forums has a warning for AIE SWTOR players, it seems accounts are getting caught up in suspensions or bans if they move bound color crystals in legacy weapons. SWTOR has since decided some of the accounts were unfairly banned and released a patch to fix the exploits, if your account was not unlocked, contact [email protected]

 

There appears to be something of a...large WAR going on in ‘delve’ within EVE, and AIE is participating. Check out the forum post called In Defense of Delve for more information. This is a call to arms folks!

Book of Heroes is humming along nicely! This weekend is Double Guild Loyalty rewards, so make sure and raid as much as ya can to get to level 5!  I’m still trying to get everything aligned and we might end up collapsing a bit more, just to make sure all the guilds have enough, but we’ll get there!

 

The folks that do Lairs (Raids) in Secret World are still meeting weekly! Check out the thread for the League of Dynamic Dischord (all hail Pyramidian!) that gets updated with what they’re currently working on in the forums! They’re a really great group of folks, very generous with time and in-game currency! They need more folks to show up so they can try some of the more complex bosses out there.

 

So if you are listening to the news here and NOT in game, you’re already missing it, but keep in mind, 16 mans ARE happening in SW:TOR. Emperor Pelpatine put up a post regarding the Gree Xenoanalyst, there are a few requirements to be able to join up, but check it out for the info so you can be ready for next time!

 

World of warcraft’s patch 5.3 has dropped! This is a huge patch that has many awesome updates including the new Darkspear rebellion questline, 18 new pets! (yay!) and Waay too much stuff to mention! (Like daily server restarts! and constant mod updating oooo)

 

Raptr has more rift rewards! Raptr, a social networking site for gamers, has teamed up with Rift to allow players to earn free pets, gear, and ultimately, a free copy of Rift’s expansion Storm legion. Remember rift is free to play up to level 20 until this june when the entire game goes free to play! So go and enjoy!

Hot on the heels of a new Star Trek movie a new expansion just launched. “Legacy of Romulus”

It’s FREE!

You can now play Romulans, Klingons and Feds from level 1 up to max level (50)

Romulan story line is just amazing.

Choose Fed or Klingon to ally with at level 10.

New UI matching each faction (plus things like separating chat tabs into new windows)

Movie poster like character selection screen (not just you, but your ship … your crew...)

Great new Klingon content starting you out at level 1 (and just how DOES a Klingon get command of a ship? *wink wink*)

 

General game related:

Legacy packs are still available.

 

Lifetime subscriptions are on sale until June 21st! $199 down from $299.

- a few of the lifetime perks: full foundry access, play as a liberated Borg, costume insignia, Captain’s Yacht shuttle (ship), android bridge officer, free ship (heavy destroyer) plus TONS of little things like respecs, costume pieces, etc.

 

Replay missions are going on now, so you can earn limited time mission rewards again for completing past featured missions. Get things like an Ophedian cane, Breen bridge officer, Reman bridge officer, and more.

 

Fleet related:

Closing in on 100 crew members, at least 80+ of which are actual people. But we are expecting an influx of alts. ;)

 

We are now a level 8 fleet and just about to wrap up Embassy tier 2 and start construction on Starbase tier 3, starting with the upgraded shipyard that should be starting soon.

 

We are planning an in-game get together sometime in the next two week or two as the starbase has a TON of new goodies, including a dance floor, a bigger bar, and lots of fun little additions.

The Great Merge has completed for Book of Heroes! Or at least, the first phase of such. There was a lot of shuffling going around with faces old and new meeting in the new guilds! There doesn’t seem to be a need for limits on alts anymore, so if you’d like alts in the same guild, seems fine. Make sure and watch the forums as things develop!

 

AIE has now conquered all of the bosses in World of Warcraft MoP! The raid team “If Looks Could Kill” has taken down Lei Shen and is now currently working on heroic modes! We don’t normally make these sorts of announcements, but a ‘AIE First’ was worth a mention!

 

Yet another game has joined the AIE Family of being a drain on simply time, not time AND money. Rift has announced they are going Free to Play! Join your fellow guildies in the world of Telara and enjoy all the dynamic content they have to offer... for free!

 

There have been various threads that have gone up surrounding Nerdtacular this year, and it looks like someone has made a ‘roll call’ that you can sign up on. Keep in mind, ALL of the information that is requested is completely optional, so feel free to share only what you would like to let folks know who you are and when yer coming!

 

Do you miss the big green wall of friendly text when you’re in that realm called Real Life? Don’t forget, AIE has a Jabber server! What’s Jabber you say? Jabber is an instant messaging platform that you can use to chat with other AIE members while they also wait for that workday queue to time out. It’s completely free, and best of all, you’re already signed up! Jabber accounts are integrated into our UMAMI membership system, so all you have to do is find a Jabber client you like, such as Pidgen, iChat, Trillian, or about 300 other options, and sign in with your UMAMI account. World of warcraft and DC comics are giving away free graphic novel previews for kindle and IOS users! So if you have been curious about the comics and want to check them out you give them a shot. They currently have previews up for pearl of pandaria, Dark riders, and bloodsworn.

Update 11 dropped - Treachery of the White Hand.

5 new areas (rolling hills now frozen, vast areas of tundra, along with flash frozen forests, lakes, everything).

Saruman’s hold over Rohan brings a chill to all - the chill effect.

Mounted Combat changes

Combat. On mounts. What is more awesome than that?!?!?!

Removed the ‘mobility’ elements of the tree and integrated parts of it in to the base warhorse itself.  Also reworked the trees to allow for more integration (synergy - ugh) with the character that rides it.  The goal is to make the transition of playing your character on foot doesn’t seem so different to riding on horseback.

>Spring Festival

Spring Festival runs from May 21 to June 4th (only two weeks) this year. Lots of events in the Spring Festival, it seems like it gets busier every year. The currency to buy cosmetics and household item is the leaf again. They’ve allowed you to keep leftover currency after the event, so if you don’t get enough currency, you will be ahead of the game for the next time it rolls around. It’s really difficult to do all your dailies on all your alts during the festivals.

 

Some events are the same through all the festivals, like the dance event, the horse race, the Ale Association and the Inn League. The Inn League is the hobbit beer drinking club and the Ale Association is the dwarves’, which are jealous of the hobbit Inn League and they try to sabotage the Inn League by stealing recipes and putting tainted mugs out for Inn League quest locations.

 

The Spring festival has a ton of dailies and reputation quests. One new one is the maze in Bree. Another is a chance to protect the farms from invading shrews. You can get titles for completing a number of festival quests, one of the shrew titles is ‘Tamer of the Shrews’

 

Last year there was a mount that was available as a random drop, the Steed of the Jester, we’ll see if they do again this year.

 

We’re going to post the AIE plans for the Spring Festival in the forums soon, we’re negotiating with Pelell’s agent to get the band together again. AIE hosts a party at the kin house, we have a stage and we’ll have another horse race and other events.

 

So, there’s a ton of stuff happening in game, roll a toon and look us up on Landroval.
