The AIE Podcast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAtdPjFHSPM

We’ve got Craft Fair news, Blizzcon has been announced, and we talk to a couple of middle Earthers! All that and more coming up right now. THIS is the AIE Podcast.

Good evening ladies and gentleman, this is the AIE Podcast Episode 136, the die HAS been podcast. Broadcasting from beautiful Northern California, this is Ghomus. Joining me from only a quarter of the state away is Alludra. And coming at us from the deep South out in Central Alabama, is Acuzod.

AIE NEWS:

What a craaazy week we had last week for AIE’s 6th birthday extravaganza! I know SOME folks were able to attend all 6 nights of celebrations, and we have some urls of pics folks took on multiple locations! Check the multiple forum threads for pictures (here, over here,) and there is even a video of the storming of stormwind!

And on that note, we would like to thank all our amazing guests who managed to help us celebrate AIE in last week’s podcast! A huge thank you to Lanctharus, Mkallah, Ayhood, Stu, Bouvi, Appolas, Maxx, Stigg, Ralff, Gerp  and Maui! Thanks so much! Prizes have also been sent out to most of our winners! Thanks to everyone who entered!

Blizzcon has been announced for the weekend of Nov 8th and 9th. The guild hall planning has already begun! Remeber to RSVP on the meetup.com site so we can get an accurate headcount! Between this, Dragon*Con and N13, it’s going to be a crazy, busy year for AIE!

AIE’s WoW Craft faire in the spring is ALREADY getting geared up to be ready to go for when it drops. Remember, this is purely a volunteer thing, so if you are looking to help, Syrene has all the infos for you! Check the forum post for details on how to sign up to help! http://forum.myextralife.com/topic/49234-spring-craft-faire-is-coming/

From the pictures posted, it looks like AIE is having a grand time taking down some of the newer “Gree” world bosses in SW:TOR. Max (man is he ALWAYS running someplace?) is leading the charge on these along with the rest of the Lords of Light, and it sounds like just about anyone can get in the fun on at least a few of the bosses. Check the thread for details if you are looking for something to do on Tuesday nights!

Not SPECIFICALLY News pertaining to AIE, but if you’ve been waiting to join in on the fun in WoW with AIE, now is a great time! You can get EVERYTHING, including Mists of Pandaria for a total of 35 dollars! (Vanilla/BC/Wrath is 5, Cata is 10 and Pandas are 20!)

To enter, go to the AIE forums and look for the Swagapalooza post.

Tynchal over in the AIE forums has thrown down the gauntlet! Apparently he found out he’s older than Old Man Franks and wants to know “Am I the oldest guy here?” Tynchal who just celebrated his 69th birthday offers a challenge to the members of AIE to see if he is the true ‘old man’ of AIE.

Book of Heroes AIE’rs, there have been a few slots opening up on various guilds. There is now going to be a requirement to have a VenanID to sign up, so that might prevent you from getting invited if you have not yet done so. I know there were a few slots available in a few different guilds, ranging from 0 might to 500, 1000 and 1800. Every 2 weeks we’re cleaning out idle folks with 2 weeks or longer since last login.

Emperor Pelpatine stopped by to talk to us about AIE in SW:TOR!

Meetups this weekend! The So Cal mid winter meetup is happening this saturday at 2pm at lucky baldwins in pasadena! Not to be outdone the folks over in arizona are having a meetup at Amazing Jake's over in Mesa at 6pm! If you aren't in these areas though don't despair! Setting up your own AIE meetup is easy and can be done on the meetup.com website and on the forums.

http://www.meetup.com/Alea-Iacta-Est-Gaming-Community/

AIE Podcast segment submissions! We are always looking for great member segments, and It's occured to us that we may not always be the easiest to find. Well rest assured you can send your segments to our email, we ask that you keep them around the 90 second mark and that they be an actual segment (not just a plug for your show).

For AIE Book of Heroes players, a few quick updates! The "Great Culling" is coming, and we're going to be removing players who have not been active in 2 weeks or longer. This will be the cut off from this point forward. If you decide the game isn't for you, it'd would be great if you could leave the guild before uninstalling the game. Also, there is a NEW section of the forums which right now, is only for us, because we're the only 'minor league' game AIE is a part of!  Just a few posts there, but make sure and take a look at the guidelines at the top of the section for posting info.

Planning is underway for the great AIE anniversary! If you have an idea for an event, or want to help take part, let us know on the forums! Remember, you don't have to be an officer to create an event (Though we do have rules about what is and is not allowed) if you have  any questions please send us emails or ask on the forums.

Remember the world of warcraft movie? We didn't! But apparently it's back on track and will start filming later this year! There are few details out about the movie, which is planned on being released in 2015.

Are you a musician? Ever dream about having your music in a video game? Have we got the contest for you! Funcom is holding a contest now through February 19th for all musicians out there to get their music in the secret world! Rules and details are on their website, so go check them out!

A mandatory password change is coming to guild wars 2. If you chose your guild wars 2 password before September 12, 2012 Guild wars 2 has plans to roll out a required password change on February 2nd. This is part of a big security push from the guild wars team to ensure everyone has the safest possible passwords.

And with that, let's welcome this week's guest Pelell

GAME NEWS

SWTOR AIE News

In December, we celebrated our first full year as a guild in SWTOR. We had A Where in the Galaxy is an Officer Hunt and gave away multiple items to everyone who was in attendance, including mounts, pets, game unlocks, lightsaber color crystals, and specialized emotes. Most of these prizes were items that are found in the Cartel Packs. I personally went a little crazy buying some, in the hopes of getting a Sith Throne. (I didn't get one through the packs, but Max was able to procure one for me on the condition I didn't ask how he got it.) To mark the year, I created a yearbook via Photobucket that people are welcome to view, or add their own photos. Anyone wishing to do so should contact me through the EL forums. Here is a link to the page so far. http://s221.beta.photobucket.com/user/Pelell/story/6357

And speaking of celebrations, as mentioned earlier, AIE will be celebrating our 6th birthday in the next couple weeks. I know there are going to be plans across all games, and with a couple of our games under the AIE umbrella being F2P,

http://youtu.be/pSCzLvsrcnU

We've got a great show today, with special guests Ayhood, StupidGenius and GypsyGirl standing by to talk to us about Rift but first, the news...

AIE NEWS

We have a new guildie of the moment! Everyone give three cheers for Großerstier. Gro, who is also known as Aeonidis in eve online got his  nomination via email write in! See! Emailing does make a difference!

Some amazing things said about him:

sent me roughly two complete bank tabs of LW mats of assorted types (for the craft fair).  He's quite a hero with me.

I know him from EVE, a great member of the community

I completely support making him a GotM for his participation in EVE alone!

So everyone give Gro a big high five if you see him! If you know somoene who you think is a fantastic example of what AIE stands for, let us know by sending an email to [email protected].

Last week we announced we have a new Jabber service! Jabber is a multi platform chat room that AIE is using as a cross game greenwall. But have you been wondering how to actually use it! Well we have instructions for that! Head on over to the forums and look for the Jabber Jabber Jabber (or How to Connect a Jabber Client to the AIE server) thread to find out how to connect and ask your questions there!

Just a reminder, the officers are thrilled to hear about new games that may be added to AIE, but would like to remind you that certain games currently have Non Disclosure Agreements and are not open for discussion on the forums. If you are playing a game and are under an NDA understand that any and all discussion on the topic may be shut down on the forums.

A Book of Heroes Update: We have 12 coguilds bursting at the seams, plans to get 13 and 14 opened in the next few days! Please be patient as we try to keep this going in an organized fashion. A LOT of folks are playing this game! Bless and Curse you Dills! Also remember if the Alea Iacta Est guild name isn't in the book of heroes thread or Wiki, it's not an official AIE guild.

All SORTS of Anniversary things coming up, so definitely stay tuned for those, and here's one that is getting off the ground. The Running of the er...Pandas!  Running of the Schezwan Beef? Man I don't even know.

Another anniversary event coming up Lanctharus has been busy calling forth the horde of aie to take down stormwind! You heard us right folks! We are not taking down bosses but all of stormwind, we want their town FOR THE HORDE!

Meetups meetups meetups! Some big meetups are being planned! The Chicagoland meetup for Medieval times is underway on February 2nd. Southern California AIE'ers are also having a midwinter meetup that same day! More meetups are being added to the meetup.com website every week so check it out, or even start your own! They are really simple, fun and a great way to get to know your local guildies!

If you are looking to get into The Secret World, NOW is the time! Origin has it on sale for a measly 10 bucks! 10 bucks for everything! No monthly fee if ya don't want! Sale goes through the 28th, so act fast!

An open apology to the EVE folks. I tried to look through the news postings to get some information on what is happening in the game, but to be honest I don't know what any of those terms mean! An example: Honeybadger Coalition, and therefore TEST, have officially reset standings with the CFC, by mutual agreement. There will be a temporary re-bluing at the weekend for evacuation of assets from Deklein. This is a news item, apparently!

Alludra: In case you somehow are listening to THIS podcast and not any other of the great great Frogpants family of shows, official dates and times for Nerdtacular 2013 have been announced! The resort looks totally awesome, and Scott has let us know there are KILLER deals on room rates, lots of restaurants in walking distance, and now 2 DAYS of fun!

Okay that's enough news! Let's bring out our guests Ayhood, StupidGenius and GypsyGirl standing by to talk to us about Rift

http://youtu.be/nClpK6UMf6k

We've got Jabber! We've got Wiki! And we've got DILLS! All that and more coming up right now. THIS is the A-I-E Podcast...

We've got a great show today, with special guest Dills standing by to talk to us about Book of Heroes but first, the news...

AIE NEWS

We now have a real life Greenwall! That's right we have finally got a Jabber service running as discussed at N12! So what's Jabber? Well Abovan put it best "A chat and IM service, where we own the server. It's neat because it supports a lot of clients, on just about any platform you can think of. PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, you name it." Just load up Jabber in your favorite chat client (Trillian, pidgin, more examples here!) and use your UMAMI password to log in! It's fast, it's friendly and it's aie!

Ever want to contribute to the AIE wiki? Yes! We have a wiki! And we want you to add information about your character or raid team! Thankfully now the wiki is using UMAMI log ins and passwords, which means you already have an account! Head on over and update your info, show off your raid team, or that other group that you have going on!

Who is heading to PAX East? If the answer is you, then you might want to check out AIE meetups happening during the convention! It's still a little ways off in March, and 3 day passes ARE already sold out, but this is one of the great gamer cons out there. Check the thread to see who might be going! You can also RSVP on the meetup.com site!

Our leader tiger Henry put this up on the forums, but it appears that GW2 Free Transfers are coming to an end! Also, there will soon be a 'guesting feature' that allows you to play in 2 other worlds, being able to swap one out every 24 hours. See the post for more details.

Because we KNOW we've sold so many people on The Secret World, you'll certainly want to check out Cthulhu Wednesdays! Sokotep and his crew in the AIE Cabals are looking to get some new folks into Dungeons from Polaris to Slaughterhouse and everything in between! The first official run will be this next Wednesday, the 25th!

Please remember that the AIE invite period for new members is the first week of the month. We have a lot of people popping back into games and we love that you are bringing friends, but the only way your friendly neighborhood officers can keep things under control is by restricting the enrollment period

Funcom Montreal has closed it's doors! As part of a major restructuring of the company the montreal branch of the studio has closed down. This is all going 'as planned' to make the company more profitable, and will not impact their games.

And with that, it's time to welcome the one and only DILLS...

GAME NEWS

Book of Heroes has taken hold of AIE! Ghomus somehow ended up being the Director of this branch and he fully blames Dills for this mess!

8 guilds full, hopefully a 9th opening soon! Currently 1 character per guild per member. We're trying to make room for everyone, but with a 60 character cap per guild, you can imagine how fast they're filling up. Thanks to all the quality AIE folks that are helping Dills and Ghomus get things going! Caoboi, StupidGenius and Korann get a shout out from Ghomus! Keep in mind, if the AIE guild does NOT show up in the AIE Forum post or Wiki, it is NOT an AIE guild. We've had 2 already do this.

Because we'd like to know who folks are, we're asking that everyone have a VenanID within 2 weeks. That will allow you to have alts, and us to see who the overarching nick that you are using will be. If you do not log in for 30 days, your character will be removed from the guild to make room for someone a bit more active. You can always come back though!

All characters who are accepted into the guild and have a VenanID are automatically promoted to Member status. When members have reached 1000 might, we tend to promote them to Veteran status. Veterans are able to start raids and that is really the only difference.

News

It's only been a short while since the LAST AIE Craft Faire, but the spring fair is coming up for world of warcraft, and a few fine folks are already starting to collect mats! There are going to be rather a few threads popping up, so if you just check the professions section of the AIE WoW forums, all the hot info is there!

Space....the final frontier. These are the voyages of the star ship...AIE! That's right, this week AIE has officially GERP'd into Star Trek Online. Another free to play MMO now has the mark of a quality gaming community on it. Come join the fun, and seek out new life and new civilizations!

Because you OBVIOUSLY have way too much free time, and there are periods in your day when you just cannot be in front of a computer, AIE has also ventured into an an iOS/Android game called the "Book of Heroes"

The sneaky Rift officer is coordinating these events through twitter so follow @_stupidgeinus to catch the announcements as they happen!

And now, let's welcome in our special guests, Lanctharus and Mkallah...

GAME NEWS

Lanctharus: Hello again! I hope you made it through the holidays without losing your mind, patience or amassing a huge amount of holiday debt. I will not ask how your waistline fared as mine has suffered greatly. /cry

Been busy playing games that I swore to myself that I was not going to buy myself before Christmas. Damn you STEAM! I haven't been playing Lanctharus much as of late as I have been focusing on my original main that I first started in Warcraft. Man did I miss playing a warrior. I guess I have a thing for smacking things with oversized two handed weapons.

Which btw according to the latest patch notes, Blizzard why you nerfing me? *sniffles

Shockwave and Second Wind

[Ask Mkallah how her game time and holidays have gone]

Lanc talks about losing his smartphone. Which had his authenticator installed on.. Which means he had to call Blizzard... But no worries I got my access back but while we are at it let's talk a little about account security.

Mathannug reminded me that the AIE Gaming Community will be celebrating its 6th anniversary on February 13th. What and how are you planning on celebrating this milestone?

Although we are still very early in the planning stages I called dibs on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 16th. We are going to have a party on a massive scale so bring your best looking gear, tabards, banners,

We've got a new Guildie of the Moment, more guild meetups, and we talk to the gang from AIE LOTRO. All that and more coming up right now. THIS is the A-I-E Podcast...

Good evening ladies and gentleman, this is the AIE Podcast, episode 129! Broadcasting from beautiful Northern California, this is Ghomus. (Ghomus catchphrase) Joining me from a hop, skip, and a jump away is Alludra. (Alludra greetings). And coming at us from way down yonder out in Central Alabama, is Acuzod. (AcuZod greeting)

We've got a great show today, with special guests Apolas and Ingormar, but first, the news...

AIE NEWS

Let's start the new year with a new guildie of the moment! Everyone give a  big congratulations to Prevenge! This guildie went above and beyond by securing a collectors edition MOP box for Mortoss when the retailers in his area sold out. Prevenge then drove it to Mortoss rather than ship it! Wow!

Remember we officers have our eyes open for this sort of super guildie behaviour but we can't see all of the awesome in AIE! If you know someone who went above and beyond let the officers know by writing an email to [email protected]. Prevenge, we salute you!

Also the officers of AIE world of warcraft would like to re-welcome Ghomus into the game! yay! Ghomus, whom you may have heard of has been an officer in other games but has recently decided to rejoin the AIE world of warcraft community as an officer! Ghomus, welcome back and...don't you ever just want to play?

Meetups!

-For those of you that are in the Chicagoland area, there is going to be a meetup at Medieval Times on Feb 2nd. Go and get your grub on (with your hands, no silverware!) and watch some quality Jousting!

-In the DC Area there are some folks going to what appears to be called "MagFest" that is happening THIS VERY WEEKEND. Check out the post for more details! Games and music all weekend!

-Other meetups are being tentively suggested on the forums and the meetup.com site so if you are interested in going, or want to plan your own meetup in the new year, head on over and get to planning! It's surprisingly easy!

It's now been just over a year since AIE ventured into a Galaxy Far Far Away! Our Dark Lord, Pel-patine, has assembled a great yearbook of pictures, and a few other folks have contributed links as well. Come check it out, it's pretty fun. And remember, free to play so join the fun anytime!

The steam Holiday sale is still going on and going strong! That's right, they aren't done emptying our pockets! At least not until the 5th. Head over to steam and see if you can grab that game you have had your eye on at a fantastic price. Or avoid steam entirely. That seems the better route.

Speaking of Steam, we have a Steam game giveaway, courtesy of Belthaz! Belthaz has graciously donated a copy of Dungeons of Dremor to give away to our podcast listeners, which will will do right now....

Patch 5.2 has hit the world of warcraft PTR. What's 5.2? Only this humongous new patch that is going to change a bunch of stuff! What kind of stuff? How about a new raiding their? More to the legendary quest! Changes to the world boss system, and the ability to buy the farm! Head on over to the official patch notes to see what they plan on implementing and to keep track of all that will be changed by the time the patch goes live!

If you have a friend who is considering spending tons of money to transfer characters over to the earthen ring server to play in AIE, the officers would like to remind you to suggest that they roll a character specifically to see if we are the right fit for them! Rolling a new character is free and we don't care if you later decide to delete them! World of warcraft applications are open to everyone during the first 7 days of the month!

And with that, let's welcome in Apolas and Ingormar to talk about AIE LOTROTROOTORO

GAME NEWS

Lord of the Rings Online is the official MMORPG for Middle earth. The game was released April 2007,

http://youtu.be/7MwZ_OZTJNE

We’ve got a great show today, with special guests Sindrake, Grimbane and Halflight standing by to talk to us about AIE in The Secret World, but first, the news...

AIE NEWS

First up, we have very sad news to share. Those of you in AIE WoW may have met Borgaz. He was a member of Gank and Spank and Floor Tanks raiding teams. We regret to announce that Borgaz, whose real name was Glenn, passed away on Dec 14th. The forums are overflowing with thoughts and memories of Glenn. If you knew Borgaz in game, his real life friend Calethiel would appreciate your posting your memories of Glenn, which will be printed out and presented to Glenn’s family. Borgaz will be added to our annual Remembrance Day event.

The members in  AIE are so awesome we just have to celebrate and give cheers to another Guildie of the moment! So everyone, three cheers for Neuriod!

He has a great vent presence as well, narrating some of the summer of love events like a game show host. I really loved his enthusiasm.

His good humor and his desire to include everyone were really evident.

he has a fun enthusiasm that keeps everyone engaged

So everyone give Neuroid a big congrats if you see him in game! And remember if you know a guild member that is completely awesome and totally deserving of a moment of praise, send an email to [email protected].

For you fans of Lord of the Rings Online, we are happy to announce the AIE LOTRO Expedition has graduated to full-fledged settlement. If you are interested in joining AIE in Middle Earth, we are on the Landroval server. Just log into UMAMI and submit your application.

It seems there’s been some confusion about whether or not meetups can be posted on the forums. To make things clear you can post on both meetup.com site and the forums. We do strongly encourage meetups to be posted on the meetup.com site, just so members can catch all the great meetups going on.

Solidefy on the forums is wondering if anyone in the DC area will be heading to the Music and Gaming festival happening on January 3-6th. No word yet if he’s just gauging interest or if he’s seeing if members are interested in a meetup. If you are interested or want to learn more he has links in the forum thread.

AIE in Guild Wars 2 is organizing Sunday night dungeon runs for their members. Start time can vary, but the members are working hard to clear the dungeons and I am sure, would like more members to join them. Details can be found in the Guild Wars 2 section of the forums.

And since we are talking about Guild Wars, a new holiday started December 14th, Wintersday! The holiday has a bunch of new events, items and general holiday cheer that makes me jealous that I am not playing too! Details can be found on the Guild Wars 2 website or in the forums.

Potentially exciting Steam news! Valve just released the "Steam Community

Market." At this point you can buy and sell Team Fortress 2 items in a auction house style. Very similar to Diablo 3's real money auction site. The money gained goes into your steam wallet to fund your incurable need to buy games you will never play during the upcoming Steam Winter sale. Check it out at Http://Steamcommunity.com/market/

"How has your raid team progressed in MoP? Are you 4 of 6 in Mogushan Vaults? Or, are you just beginning to learn how to take down the three dogs in Stone Guard? The AIE Raid Wrapup has been resurrected after a long hiatus! Check AIE Raid Wrapup thread on the community discussion section on the forums, or email [email protected] for special requests or shoutouts! Segments will be recorded, compiled and included at the end of the AIE Podcast every week or two. You can also tweet Sihx @epicdiapers if you have any questions."

Beefmaster, head of AIE Stream, wants everyone to be aware of the big Steam Winter Sale that is upon us. From now until January 5th, Steam will be deluging us with the biggest games sales of the year.

We’ve got meetups, game news, and we talk to the AIE Jedi masters! All that and more coming up right now. THIS is the A-I-E Podcast...

We’ve got a great show today, with special guests Abovan and Max standing by to tell us what’s going on with AIE in a galaxy far, far away - but first, we’ve got a little AIE news for you...

AIE NEWS

The forums were down, but are back up again! We know you all had a panic attack last Tuesday when the Frogpants forums went missing, but they are restored and more secure than ever. A security update took them down, but it wasn’t too long before our mods got them back up and running again!

The vent password has been changed! Oh no! You can find the new vent information on UMAMI at umami.aie-universal.net. Just sign in and then look for the orange button with the link, Ventrilo Server Access. Don’t forget, if you’re a member of AIE, you already have an UMAMI account, so don’t make a new one to try and get the password, it doesn’t work that way. If you can’t remember your login, just click the “Forgot your password” link to request a password reset using the information you signed up with!

I’ve heard from a couple of new members that they’re a little unsure of what to do in vent. While you can always use vent to communicate with your AIE raid team, you can also just drop in to any of the game-specific general chat rooms, like the Shady Tavern for you World of Warcraft players, where you can have a good time chatting and meeting new people while you do your dailies grind.

CINDER KITTY!!! OMG OMG OMG SO CUTE!! The blizzard pet store is selling a new pet! The cinder kitten! While this seems like something I made up just so I can talk about pets (yay!), it’s actually for a good cause. Blizzard is giving 100 % of the proceeds from the sale of this pet to Superstorm Sandy relief! So get an omg so cute pet and help out the red cross! Mounts are also currently half price, but the sale from those aren’t helping the charity.

Just a quick tease: Plans are already afoot for the AIE Guild Hall at Blizzcon 2013. This will be the largest Guild Hall event we’ve put on to date, and if you were there during Blizzcon 2011, or if you caught the live stream, you know how much fun that Guild Hall was. More news to follow in the coming months, including how you can help get involved, so stay tuned.

Put your mark on the map! Just a heads up for our newer members: If you want to see what other AIE members might live near you, check out the Put Your Mark On The Map thread in the community section of the AIE forums. This is a great way to meet other AIE’ers in real life and plan some get-togethers.

And speaking of get-togethers, don’t forget AIE has our own page at Meetup.com. There you can see who’s having a gathering near you, or throw out your own invite and plan something with your AIE neighbors. Meetups coming up soon include a gathering at Buffalo Wild Wings in Daytona Beach, FL on Dec 15th, a group of Hobbit watchers meeting in Pasadena, CA on Dec 15th, and a Dinner and a Movie get-together in Cary, NC - also on Dec 15th and also going to watch The Hobbit.

Returning to Rift? Feeling overwhelmed? Well, the AIE Telara officers have you covered! Head on over to the forums to the official ‘welcome back - a guide to what has changed thread’ for information on how to adapt to the new expansion!

AIE members in space AIEU wants you to read your mail! Not happening? Fine. We will announce it here! Cotel (via Khariq) has announced a friday night cruiser run tomorrow at 8 CST. New players are not only welcome but encouraged to come join in the adventures and explosions. Yeah...there’s gonna be explosions.

And with that, let’s welcome our guests,  Abovan and Max...
