  • Meet up with Samantha Glasdish | Weight Loss & Women's Hormone Coach
I never realized it at the time, but my high carbohydrate diet and use of the birth control pill was damaging my health, destroying my hormones and causing my migraines. I thought this was normal. This is what you were suppose to experience as a woman, right? The truth is, I was always innately interested in healthy food. Aside from some indulgent treats here and there and my love of carbs, I loved eating fresh fruits and vegetables and I had the privilege of growing up in a household where my mother made everything from scratch. Everything was homemade and my mother would cringe at pre-packaged food. In fact, I loved fruits and vegetables so much that even as a little girl, my parents would take me to McDonalds for a treat and I would order salad! So even though I had a fairly balanced diet, it still needed some serious work! I was eating too much sugar in the form of treats, desserts, cereal, pasta, rice and bread. Oh! And let’s not forget the late night fast food visits with friends during my early University years! It wasn’t until my early to mid twenties that I started to take my health more seriously. I dated a guy in University whose family was very health conscious. His mom would buy organic food, his brother was practicing Chinese medicine and it opened me up to a whole new world. And so, I started to dive into all things health and applied to the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) to become a Holistic Nutritionist. From here, I started tweaking my diet, experimenting with supplements and hitting the gym regularly. I was doing a lot of things right, but my digestion was still suffering and I was still on the pill. And then, I went on vacation to Cuba one year and I caught a parasite. UGH! It was terrible. My already poor digestion took a hit for the worse. For weeks I couldn’t eat anything, I was in pain and I spent months healing my gut and cleaning up the fungal/parasitic mess within me. It wasn’t pretty. Finally, I got off the pill, which was causing me to be deficient in zinc, magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin C. All important nutrients to support my digestion, adrenals and hormones. Attending CSNN taught me a lot and gave me such a deep appreciation for my health and body. After CSNN, I continued to research and take courses on hormones, immunology, fertility, paediatrics, cancer and even became a certified Hormone Cure Coach through Dr. Sara Gottfried, a Certified Yoga instructor, Pilates teacher, Kickboxing Instructor and Personal trainer. Health and wellness became my life and more than that, it gave me a clear vision of what is possible for our body, mind and sprit. With this new found knowledge I couldn’t help but want to support others in their health journey and help them realize what’s possible for their health and life. • Interview with Courage Coach | Billy Anderson
When I was 5 years old my mom heard me crying in my room. She asked what was wrong and I said “You’re born, you live for a while, and then you die. What’s the point?” It took me years to answer that question. Now I help other people figure out their “point” and live a life that’s true to them. But years ago, I felt stuck. Stuck in a career that looked good on paper but didn’t fulfill me. I dreaded Mondays and couldn’t wait for Fridays. However, I wasn’t willing to accept that my life had to be like this. I finally found the courage to stop doing what the world told me I “should” do. Instead, I defined my own version of success and I went after it. I left my successful advertising career – people thought I was nuts. I moved to the woods and led Outward Bound trips, while leading volunteer projects in Central America and the South Pacific during the winter. Now I live a life that’s true to me while making a positive difference in the world, as the founder of The Courage Crusade. I also find time to get WAY out of my comfort zone so I can grow my courage “muscle”. I’ve jumped out of an airplane exactly 101 times. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries. I’ve trekked in the Himalayas, Run with the Bulls in Spain, and swam with sharks in Thailand. I’ve been a sugar-cane farmer in Costa Rica, an apple picker in New Zealand, and a fundraising director for an international charity. I know what makes me tick. I set goals and I achieve them. I understand the importance of courage in not allowing my fears to hold me back. In fact, I’m scared of the exact same things you are: failure, looking stupid, not being liked. Your version of success may be completely different than mine, and that’s fine. I’m here to help you define what yours looks like and then make it a reality. Billy Anderson http://couragecrusade.com/

  • Emotional and physical injury | My funny BMX story
Let Kris J Simpson tell you about his rise and fall over the past weekend. I'm still smiling, but I had fallen, and I have gotten up. Got some R.I.C.E going on here. That's Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. So here's what happened, I brought my son and his friend to the skate park. My son just got a BMX bike, and he's getting into it. My son wanted to show me the skate park, so I said, “okay, sure whatever.” I got on my son’s bike to see why the front wheel was making a funny noise. I start making my way around the parking lot then made my way over to the skate park, and my son says, “papa, why don't you try it, why don't you go check it out? I don't know if you've ever seen a skate park, but there's these concrete half pipes and rails that I've seen in movies or on YouTube, but I've never really seen them in person. I decided to go ahead, and them give it a try. I decided to go down the halfpipe. It went well; I got to the other side. I said to myself, “wow that was kind of exhilarating, I'd like to try that again.” I started looking at the other things in the skate park. I decided to head to the ramp and try to jump off of it, and my front wheel dove down, and I went ass over end. I was thrown onto the ground. Fortunately, I wasn't going too fast yet my arm was the absorber, because it was my head that hit next. When I got up, I was seeing birds flying around my head because I was a little bit concussed afterward... LISTEN TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME....

  • How Much Water Do You Need?
I will ask you five questions to see if you’re suffering from symptoms of dehydration. When I was a professional bodybuilder, I had to learn how to drink things that I didn't like, like protein powders that didn’t taste all that great and of course I wanted to put them down as quickly as possible to reap the benefits. By doing this, I learned all these other cool tricks of how to ensure we receive the nutrients from what we drink. The following are questions I want you to ask yourself if you think you may be dehydrated: What is the color and/or odor of your urine? The color and odor of our urine is a telltale sign of hydration. So let me ask you, from a scale of one to ten here, what is the color of your urine, further to the scale of ten where it has a more yellow, or even an orange-y type of color and it has a strong odor, or is it closer to the one here? If it is more yellow or orange, vitamins aside, we know that when we take vitamins that the toilet bowl looks like a, like a disco show, it's electric colors going on there, so besides that, what color is your urine from one to ten. Ideally, it should be almost clear and odorless. If that’s not the case, you may want to log your water intake and see how much H2O your actually consuming. Do you experience mental fatigue throughout the day? Besides being tired from not getting enough sleep the night before, you are have a hard time putting things together really quickly, your thoughts, and answering questions, and there's always this delay, and it's almost like a brain fog going on. So, if that’s the case, can you give yourself a scale of one to ten, one being that you don't usually suffer from mental fatigue as long as you get enough sleep the night before, or ten if it seems like every single day you know that you could be a lot faster with your cognitive function. Do you suffer from physical fatigue? Exercising aside, are you tired from just sitting down at your desk during the day? You barely have enough energy to go out and walk around the building or go out for lunch. Chances are, you could be dehydrated, keep a water bottle or two at your desk at all times and take a sip every few minutes. Do you have unusual food cravings? This is a really important one, you see, here's the problem, when we become dehydrated, and I'm not talking about thirsty, I'm talking about dehydration, you may intense cravings for sugary, salty or fatty foods out of the blue. Those that say, “I’m always hungry,” are often dehydrated. The next time you experience random cravings or a bout of hunger, try drinking a glass of water and waiting 20 minutes before having a snack. Are you thirsty? Guess what, if you're thirsty, it's too late, you went past the point of no return. And there's going to be a recovery period, and you know that might be a few hours. It's not like okay, you know, you're dehydrated by 5%, 10 or 15%, and you just grab that water bottle and then you've rehydrated again, no. There is a recovery period that's necessary and sometimes that takes hours. Now I am going to disclose how much water you actually need: If you're a man, you're going to need about three liters of water per day. That would be the equivalent of 13 cups or about 100 ounces. If you’re a woman, you're going to need about 2.2 liters which would be equivalent to nine cups or 75 ounces of water requirement per day. You're going to need more water if you're more active folks. At the end of the day, humans are made up of 60% to 70% water, so we need enough water to function optimally. So if you think you suffer from dehydration, what I want you to do is click this link to make sure that you download that free water and dehydration report so you can get more information along with a water logging chart: https://kris-j-simpson.mykajabi.com/p/freewaterreport Inspire to Aspire, Kris J Simpson Author & Life Coach

  • How much water do you need | How to spot dehydration symptoms
I will teach you five secrets to drinking more water even when you may not like the taste of it. Before I teach you these five secrets, let's just talk about what you need on a daily basis. If you're a man, you're going to need about three liters of water per day. That would be the equivalent of 13 cups or about 100 ounces. If you’re a woman, you're going to need about 2.2 liters which would be equivalent to nine cups or 75 ounces of water requirement per day. You're going to need more water if you're more active folks. I've talked about this in other videos. This is the topic that I discuss with all of the clients that I coach in my health program, and it's so important. Given that humans are made up of 60% to 70% water, we need enough water to function optimally. When we don’t have enough water, our body suffers. Our cognitive performance suffers which means we suffer from brain fog. Our physical performance also decreases as we lack energy. Food cravings for salt, sugar, and fat are also symptoms caused by inadequate water intake. Secret #1: Add lemon to your water. I start my day with lemon water every day. Why do I put the lemon in first thing? That's because the lemon is very acidic, but it has more of an alkalinity effect in our body. So our blood becomes more alkaline. Secret #2: Do you consume protein shakes? If so, what do you mix with it? At my health club, we have different options of the liquids you put into your shakes. It could be milk, it could be juice, or it could be water. Water is what most people do not choose because milk or juice taste better. The secret is, is mixing fruit with your protein shake. You still get some of that fruit juice taste, but without all of the extra sugar that’s in fruit juice. Case in point, putting water instead of juice or milk into your shake is another great way of getting your water quota for the day. Secret #3: Add zing to your water. I personally like fizzy water. It's a lot more entertaining than regular, plain old water. It’s calorie-free and a great alternative to pop. Secret #4: Non-caffeinated herbal teas are a great way to increase your water intake. I never was into tea, I still am more of a coffee drinker, but I know that if I lack water and I just don't feel like regular bottled water or tap water that this is a great way to put some flavor into that water without any dehydrating effects like coffee. Hence, I highly recommend herbal teas. There are hundreds of varieties. Pick out which one's good for you. There's a lot of medicinal qualities about these herbal teas as well. I'm holding on to chamomile, and one of the medicinal properties of this is allowing you to go to sleep. It gives you a little bit more tranquility before you retire for the evening. Secret #5: Low sodium soups are another great way to get more water into your day. They are hot and soothing, especially on those cold days. As long as you don't mind going to the washroom a little bit more, it is completely worth it because water is the essence of life. We don't have life without water, not for very long, anyway. We would probably last about maybe five, six, seven days max and then it's lights out for us. That's how important water truly is. Make sure you get enough of it, and I want you to download the free report on water and dehydration. It contains a water log chart so that you can start recording your water, I want you to become aware of how much water you're getting every day, and that will change everything. If you're not getting enough, now you're aware of it, now you're focused on it, you can ensure that you have water handy by you all the so you can hit your daily water target with ease! • Should you switch to a Plant-Based Diet? - 3 Shocking Things I Discovered
After watching What the Health, a documentary on Netflix, I was inspired to try a plant-based diet. Despite reading plenty of books and conducting my research, I was still afraid to switch to this kind of diet for two reasons: number one, I thought that I wouldn't get enough protein. As you know, I'm protein-focused, just like most of you folks and because of my bodybuilder background, I need a lot of protein in my diet. Number two: I also asked myself what I would be replacing the protein with? More carbs or more fats? I told myself for 7 days; I would give the plant-based diet a try. Let me explain what a plant-based diet is. Quite simply it's a diet consisting of whole foods. So unrefined, unprocessed, unpackaged type of foods. Animal proteins such as chicken, beef, and eggs are excluded whereas, fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, tofu, and grains are encouraged. I discovered some shockingly bad things and some shockingly good things about the plant-based diet. I noticed that I had a lot of bloating and a lot of gas when I first started the plant-based diet. The second thing is that I was tracking my food and I found that I couldn't get enough protein. Again, I had expectations to have a high amount of protein every day, and I didn't see that happening which concerned me. And the third thing, I gained weight (three pounds to be exact). I was very concerned about that, so I had to make some dietary changes. But before I get into what I did to make everything work with the plant-based diet, I wanted to tell you about the shockingly good things that happened. So the first thing is my strength and endurance increased significantly. I was able to lift heavier and perform more reps with ease. Number two is hydration. I'm very sensitive to being dehydrated as my energy levels drop. While on the plant-based diet, I was less thirsty. With that being said, I wasn't as hungry as I normally am. I had more “satiety” or the feeling of being full. That was a great thing, especially in the evening as I didn’t have cravings for late-night snacks. The third thing was my bowel movements didn’t smell nearly as much as they did when I had a diet that mainly consisted of animal proteins. Given the good things that I experienced within the 7 days, I decided to continue the plant-based diet for 30 days. If you end up considering the plant-based diet and are focused on trying to get as much protein in your diet as possible, try Vega Protein Powder. Also, don't just eat beans on the plant-based diet but also try tofu and other legumes as well. Beans are high in fiber and should be consumed in moderation. The final tip I have for you is to decrease your portion sizes, ensuring you’re not over-consuming a good thing. Inspire to Aspire, Kris J Simpson Author & Life Coach

  • 3 Reasons Why You Are Waiting to Keep the Weight Off
Have you ever asked yourself what you are waiting for to lose those unwanted pounds? Before you blurt out, "I've been too busy, the kids come first, or now isn't the right time," let me tell you that NOW is indeed the right time! The right time to ditch the excuses and make yourself a priority. Here is why most people are holding onto the stubborn excess weight: 1.  IT’S JUST ENERGY: extra body weight is just collected energy which hangs around until you decide to do something with it – instead of leaving it, learn to use it as fuel to ignite the body's engine. Start by selecting a physical activity that you enjoy such as swimming, skating, biking, or playing a sport you used to love as a child. It is better to select an activity you enjoy instead of forcing yourself into the gym when in fact the gym just isn't your thing. Exercising will be more enjoyable if you just select an activity you thoroughly enjoy! 2. PROTECTION: sometimes we hold onto the weight for protection. Protection from what you may ask? If you ever experienced a traumatic event if your life, I want you to stop and ask yourself is you are using the extra weight as a shield to protect you from future pain and suffering? A former client of mine used to gain weight purposely to spite her husband when he would poke fun at her. She essentially used her weight to protect herself emotionally from the pain her husband was causing her. Instead of using the extra weight as emotional protection, protect your body from disease and fuel it with nutrient-dense foods and daily exercise. 3. KEEPING GROUNDED: at times, being heavier can keep the person "grounded." Now you may ask yourself, what I mean by that. Having those extra few pounds might make the person feel more safe because they fear what life would be like if they weighed less, in terms of what people would think of them, how people might treat them differently and ultimately succeed at things they never thought were possible. I know this might sound scary, but I need you to envision all the positive things weight loss would bring and how good it would feel to fit into that new pair of jeans. I need you to release those feelings of uncertainty and trust the process. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your dream physique. Be patient as well as consistent and the results will come. “When we start relaxing about what we think were supposed to do – we can begin to do many of the things we want to do – we stop weight-ing and move forward” -Bashar Inspire to aspire, Kris J Simpson
