  • Saturated vs. Unsaturated Fats | How Much Fat Per Day?
Have you ever heard that FATS are bad for you? Contrary to what you might think, not all fats were created equally. Fats provide energy, at nine calories per gram! Stripping all fat from your diet has negative health consequences. Your body needs a certain amount of fat per day to sustain all of its necessary bodily functions. Let’s start by describing the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats to see what fats we should be consuming. From a chemical standpoint, saturated fats are simply fat molecules that have no double bonds between carbon molecules since they are saturated with hydrogen molecules. Saturated fats are also solid at room temperature. Examples of saturated fats include beef, poultry with skin, heavy cream, cheese, etc. From a scientific perspective, unsaturated fats are comprised of one or more double bonds in the fatty acid chain. Unsaturated fats are usually referred to as “oils.” Oils provide essential fatty acids and vitamin E. Unsaturated fat or good fats, can be classified as either monounsaturated fats or polyunsaturated fats. Common sources of monounsaturated fats include olive oil, almonds, pistachios, and avocado whereas, polyunsaturated fats include salmon for example. Ensure fats account for 20-35 percent of your daily caloric intake!

  • How To Forgive Others
Have you ever had somebody that you felt lied to you, cheated on you, stole from you, or said something really bad about you to others? Which in turn, made you look really bad in front of those people? What happened next? Did you argue and try to prove you were right? Or did you try to bottle it up inside?Typically, we feel it in our stomach first where it starts to do somersaults and then it works its way up to the heart; the heart starts beating a little bit faster and by the time it reaches the head, ͞you are dead͟ as Tony Robbins would say.No matter what low-level feeling you get when you think of that certain person or situation that did wrong onto you, I want you to ask yourself four questions:Haveyou forgiven yourself?Take a moment to reflect on the issue and try to have compassion for yourself and your emotions. Whatarethecostsofnotforgiving? The costs of not forgiving could vary on the situation, nevertheless, you should ask yourself what these are prior to remaining stuck in the situation.Whatarethebenefitsofforgiving?Understanding the concept, ͞time heals all͟ will allow you to reap the advantages of making amends. What are you fighting for?Is it really what was done to you that you simply cannot forget or is it more of an ego thing, whereby proving a point is the most important thing? If so, reconsider why you are even upset in the first place. Inspire to aspire.

  • How To Get 10,000 Steps per Day - With Natural and Easy Movement
Here’s how to get 10,000 steps per day in the most natural and easiest way: The Pomodoro Technique® : The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. I started thinking that this technique might be useful for the clients I coach who want to increase their daily activity and get 10,000 steps per day. Put your timer on for a 25-minute cycle with a five-minute break. Every 25 minutes get off of your chair and take a short walk, do jumping jacks, or walk on the spot. It invigorates you so you regain your focus but it also helps you achieve 10,000 steps per day! Start a Social Movement: Instead of sitting in a cafe to socialize with friends and family, move while you socialize by going out for a walk. Housework / Yardwork is the new Workout: Start treating work around the house as a way of increasing your daily steps. You will be surprised how many steps you will accumulate by only doing what needs to get done! Walkie-Talkie: Use a headset or headphones while you talk on the phone so that you can mobilize yourself. Stand up, pace, rock back and forth or whatever movement you’re comfortable with as long as you’re off your butt! What you need to do next! Get an activity tracker to start becoming aware of your activity, or lack thereof. Once you become aware, you can then make the needed changes to become more active, fit and happy.

  • An interview with a Spiritual Healer – Learn how to Heal Yourself
Have you ever thought about alternative methods for physical and emotional healing? I have learned through many of my spiritual teachers that the journey of healing always begins and ends within ourselves. One of those teachers who has influenced me and thousands of others is a spiritual healer named Sujon Datta from Los Angeles, California. I recently had a session with him that indeed shifted my state of being - into being more intuitive, trusting, peaceful and genuinely happy. Sujon is the Great-Grandnephew of Paramahansa Yogananda, the Father of Yoga in the West and is noted as being influential in the lives of Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez. He is related to the Master's eldest sister, Roma. Yogananda wrote the perennial bestseller, "Autobiography of a Yogi," and founded Self-Realization Fellowship. After my session, I decided to interview him so I could share with you the wisdom that he has acquired after years of training. Here are some highlights from our conversation: • Our expectations on what should happen and shouldn’t happen in our lives creates a lot of unnecessary unhappiness. • We set false boundaries in our lives that stifle us and are all based on stories we create or on what is considered normal in our society. • Acknowledging what’s working in your life and what isn’t working, then asking yourself why you’re still working at what you know isn’t working anymore - or perhaps never did. • How lack of self-worth and thinking that you’re not good enough effects our lives. Sujon stated that 95% of the clients he heals discover that this is a major problem and blockage of energy in their lives. • Pausing enough in our lives to identify patterns that aren’t serving us any longer • How over-serving others and under-serving ourselves creates resentments and unhappiness Sujon states that the quest for happiness and love is a journey that every conscious individual takes. Sujon's mission is to assist each individual in realizing his or her greatest potential. He helps his clients find their way back to Love, the Authentic Self, and their personal Truth. As a healer, Sujon can tap into your body, mind, and soul utilizing the ancient Eastern science of the body’s seven energy centers, or chakras. The network of the chakras forms a roadmap that can help you explore your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual centers. This subtle energetic highway is the key to your vitality and your "beingness." Using an integrative, holistic approach, Sujon facilitates the release of "dis-ease" in each center of your being. The goal is to recognize patterns that cause the imbalance in our bodies, which eventually create blocks and illnesses. Healing is not something that happens to us. It is something that happens within us. If you are open to understanding that you are ultimately the healer, you will experience great success. You will discover how your emotional and spiritual health (internal environment) impacts your physical vitality (external environment), and vice versa.

  • How to Build Healthy Habits | Using the Bridge-Building Technique
In the past, I use to find that I had the best intentions to build better lifestyle habits, but it didn’t take much to set me off course. I had to learn how to simplify habit building, and once I learned it, mastered it (and re-mastered it each time I had a setback), I started teaching it. So here are four of the practices that I use to coach my clients in the All Inclusive Lifestyle Academy that will help you build healthy habits easier, faster and make them stick! #1 - Bridge-Building: Example: If you are having difficulty starting a resistance training program, but you already have the habit of walking or using a treadmill mastered, you could bridge off this habit by adding some simple calisthenics e.g. sit-ups, push-ups after your walk. #2 – Share it: Don't keep your desire to build a new healthy habit a secret because when we don’t share it, we don’t fully commit. #3 – Twenty-one-day Habit Myth and the 3 Days to Done Truth It was a misinterpretation of Dr. Maltz report on habits that created the 21 days to build a successful habit myth. I have also found that it can take as little as three days of not focusing on your new habit before you start to slip back into old patterns - so beware of long weekends! #4 – Use Tech Triggers Using today’s technology to help us with developing healthy habits can help us tremendously. Here’s what to do next Tell me what healthy habit you are going to start working on by commenting below! Also, let me know if you need some help getting started – that’s what I do!! • How to become more Self-Empowered with the P.E.P. Journal Method
Have you ever wanted to figure out how motivated and empowered you are each and every day?    To have more consistent moods, increased productivity, and a sense of balance in your lifestyle?   This was something that became more than a need for me, in fact, it was, and is still today, a necessity. I had to become more self-empowered because I couldn’t fall victim to my volatile emotions anymore.     I understood how important this was while I was in rehabilitation. During my thirty-day treatment, they would ask us every morning to rate our mood from one to ten, and then we would discuss why we felt that way.    It was all part of this practice called self-awareness. I was taught how to separate myself from my emotions and avoid the triggers that would cause me to relapse.  My personal problems manifested within me because I wasn’t self-empowered, and I suffered for so long that they rendered me powerless. I am now aware that all of the self-created conditions I use to suffer from were really Power-Problems.     I would like to share with you the P.E.P. (Physical-Emotional-Power) journal that I created which gives me more self-empowerment and keeps me happier on a daily basis.     I would suggest you complete this practice daily upon waking up.  It only takes a few minutes, and it will allow you to become more self-aware and self-empowered, so you can continue to inspire to aspire!  *Watch the video or listen to the podcast for a full demonstration of how to complete the P.E.P. Journal *If you would like a copy of the P.E.P. Journal, please email me at [email protected]

  • 4 Healthy Fats to Keep you Fit
It was two decades ago, and I was preparing for my first bodybuilding show. The nutrition ideology was quite different back then, and dietary fat was not in fashion and was actually frowned upon. I had acute but short-term side effects from the radically low-fat diet I was following including: • Extremely low libido • Inflammation in my joints • Hair fall-out. Yes, that’s right, a lot of my hair fell out! These symptoms disappeared in the months after the event as I got back to my regular diet which included a lot more dietary fat. Here’s a look at the four sources of healthy fats that I would recommend to improve your health, manage your weight and even improve your cognitive performance. 1. Butter: Yes butter is back! After being shelved with the introduction of margarine and the very successful marketing campaign that included the slogan “I can’t believe it’s not butter,” butter is making a comeback! 2. Coconut Oil: The coconut has found a new home far from the Caribbean now that it has become popular across North America. 3. Avocados: The strange looking food that doesn’t look much like a fruit has become very mainstream in the last few years, and it’s no wonder why. 4. Fish (certain varieties): Fish such as Salmon, Trout, Sardines, Mackerel and Anchovies are all supercharged with Omega-3 fatty acids which are essential to humans because we cannot produce this type of fat and must get it from our food. Bonus! Listen to the show and find out what fat supplement I used 20 years ago that improved my memory and energized me while I prepared for a bodybuilding show!

  • Why am I so Tired; Weight Loss, Immune System, Anxiety and Depression
One thing that we are aware of is how tired we are. In Arianna Huffington’s book “The Sleep Revolution” she points out that if you type the words “why am I” into the search field that Google’s autocomplete function - based on the most common searches – finishes your thought by suggesting the phrase “why am I so tired?” She also states that “we may be what we eat, but also, to be sure, we are how we sleep.” I have found that many people don’t grasp that lack of sleep is the underlying cause for many of today’s chronic health problems such as anxiety, depression, weight gain and low immunity. Here’s my Top 5 Sleep Prescriptions: 1. Use the Kill Switch: At a pre-determined time each night, turn off all electronic devices and sources of light. 2. Reading and Journaling: Reading helps you relax but make sure to choose material that will literally “put you to sleep.” Also, include evening journaling into your bedtime ritual to reflect and close the day. 3. Bedtime snacks: Including evening snacks which contain high amounts of the amino acid tryptophan (dairy products, bananas, and honey) which will help induce sleep. 4. Sleep on it: If you’re unable to solve a problem before you go to bed, don’t stress it, rather sleep on it and let your subconscious work on a solution while your sleeping. On a final note, always remember that sleep is not a privilege, it’s a priority if you expect to live longer, love more and of course, Inspire to Aspire!
