Karmelo Anthony’s pathetic effort to secure a new trial over his murder conviction for his killing of Austin Metcalf was right laughed out of court last week when the true scope of Anthony’s violent nature—hidden from his jury—was finally disclosed to the world. 

The façade of Anthony as an inherently good kid who was merely defending himself against Metcalf’s raging racism was utterly imploded—because of course it was. 

Many of the high-profile cases of murder or deadly-force self-defense share this same characteristic—the bad actor was not merely a good person having a bad day, they were a known creature of violence, whose violent character inevitably and finally drove their inevitable fate of either their own death or their conviction.

Behind them these monsters leave not just a trail of victims broken by either their brutal violence or—if the victim successfully defended themselves against that violence—a victim broken by the brutal criminal justice system trying them for self-defense, they also leave a heavy burden on all of society forced to continue living with these known predators amongst us until the very worst happens.

Can a state actually help enforce federal immigration law—or does the Constitution force states to sit on their hands while illegal immigration overruns their communities? 

That's the question at the heart of a major cert petition now before the Supreme Court, and Senators Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley just filed a blistering amicus brief taking direct aim at the Eighth Circuit's decision to strike down Iowa's immigration law. The brief argues the real culprit is the Supreme Court's own 2012 decision in Arizona v. United States—a ruling so poorly reasoned it turned "conflict preemption" into a one-way ratchet: states that try to help Washington enforce the law get shut down, while sanctuary states that openly obstruct federal enforcement get a pass. 

Cruz and Grassley say it's time for the Court to fix its own mess before more states lose the ability to defend their citizens from an immigration crisis the Founders never envisioned tolerating.

President Trump’s new White House ballroom—and the Trump balls that would be held there—are once again threatened by the inane and TDS-driven objections of feckless, unelected, black-robed, tyrannical, federal judges, and the matter has finally, if ridiculously, reached the level of the Supreme Court itself. 

Famously liberal federal district trial court Judge Richard Leon froze continued construction of the already-started ballroom on the most ridiculous and spurious grounds—because a local DC woman found the uncompleted ballroom would be offensive to her aesthetic sensibilities.

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals then affirmed that order freezing construction on a 2-1, with a scathing dissent by Judge Neomi Rao, a Trump appointee from his first term.  (The two judges in the majority were Patricia Millet and Bradley Garcia, appointed by Obama and Biden, respectively.)   They did, however, stay their own order until August 21, to give the White House time to appeal their decision to SCOTUS.

The White House did immediately appeal to the US Supreme Court, specifically to Chief Justice John Roberts who handles such appeals in the DC Circuit, and he has ordered a response from the ball-haters by August 18, this coming Tuesday.  This deadline is only days before

On August 6, five weeks after the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision in the birthright citizenship case of Trump v. Barbara—in which SCOTUS mistakenly ruled that even children born on US soil to mere visitors and even invaders qualify for birthright American citizenship—President Donald J. Trump issued two executive orders intended to mitigate this catastrophic maiming of American sovereignty.

Two weeks ago a federal judge in Texas ruled that the NFA's registration and application requirements for suppressors and some other normally tightly-controlled gun-related items — because Congress zeroed out the transfer and  taxes that used to justify them under the taxing power. No tax, no revenue, no constitutional basis. That's a massive win for gun owners tired of fingerprints, photos, and months-long waits just to make or transfer these firearms.

Yesterday the deadline for the Trump administration to file for a stay of that order expired, and today some very brave Second Amendment champions began transferring suppressors free of the ATF registration requirements for the first time in 94 YEARS!

But don't pop the champagne for everyone just yet. This is a district court decision, not a nationwide rule — the injunction only protects the named plaintiffs, their members, and their customers, machineguns and destructive devices aren't touched, and the order is stayed seven days for an expected appeal. 

Also, although yesterday was the deadline for the government to ask for a stay of this trial court decision, the government still has 6 weeks in which to seek an appeal to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which could reverse.

Episode #1410.

Colorado police officer Sergeant Matthew Neely, who happens to be white, found himself in August 2025 standing alone facing down a non-compliant, intoxicated, high-speed flight, car-crashing, black Rajon Belt-Stubblefield, who is actively attacking that officer while urging his nearby son to retrieve his dropped pistol.  

Ultimately Neely is compelled to shoot him Belt-Stubblefield, fatally, in patent self-defense, with the confrontation and shooting captured on video from various angles, including BWC, surveillance cameras, and cell phone video.

Now, ridiculously, nearly a full year later, Officer Neely finds himself indicted on charges of murder and manslaughter for that shooting.

As normalized as this kind of persecution of police has become, we have the added bonus this this case occurred in Colorado, arguably one of the very most hostile states towards law enforcement, having in recent years both eliminated qualified immunity for police as well as prohibited their use of any kind of choke hold even if necessary to save the life of the officer or another innocent person.

Episode #1408.

The Supreme Court is being presented with yet another momentous illegal migrants decision to make—is an illegal who can manage to drag out the deportation process long enough entitled by law to a bond hearing that will inevitably release him to disappear once again into the American interior, or is the government allowed to detain that illegal migrant for the duration of the deportation process regardless of how long the illegal delays that process?

Key to all this: The detainee subject to deportation is entitled by law at any time to raise his hand and be released—he just must choose some place other than the United States has his place of release.  He is only detained so long as he is demanding the right to remain in the US. 

Currently there is a circuit split on this question, with some federal circuits siding with the Trump administration argument that ongoing detention is lawful under both statute and Constitutional due process law—and that, in any case, Congress has stripped the Article III courts of the jurisdiction to hear these deportation cases--and other federal circuits claiming that not only must the government offer a bond hearing, but that there must be an overwhelming burden of proof on the government to deny bond and release, such that it is inevitable that illegals detained will be set free into the American interior.

Trump’s senior advisor Steven Miller’s “American First Legal” organization has just filed an excellent Amicus Brief supporting (naturally) the Trump administration’s position, and I’ll be covering that brief in today’s show.

Who is right in the burrito war that has exploded over social media these last few days?
