Welcome to the late-to-the-party first episode of the Arcane Academy Book Club. Today, Abbie Plouff of Northern Lights Witch, and I will be discussing the book Lords of the Left-Hand Path by Stephen Flowers. We have a lot to talk about in this episode. While it’s pretty clear by the end what we make of the text, which is a mixed bag, I can’t say that I regretted taking my time and reading it. With a critical lens, we can read controviscal texts, and understand the content they provide more thoroughly and hopefully better understand where their authors are coming from. Get ready, for if you know anything about Left-Hand Path, Satanism, or Mr. Flowers yourself, there is bound to be controversy.

I’m sure this will elicit many feelings and provoke thoughts. We do ask comments, responses, and discussions on all forms and social media be civil. Harassment will result in being banned and blocked. We encourage healthy conversation and see these spaces as an opportunity to grow and learn from each other.

This won’t be the last episode this year where things of a controversial nature are stirred up. The near future, we will have Jordain Cheng-Kinnander join me in a two-part episode on Norse Paganism through the ages and it’s racial and gendered contexts. Additionally, towards the end of 2018 (rapidly approaching), I’m hoping to have founding members of the Left-Hand Path of Minnesota Community join us and discuss what even is the Left-Hand Path.

Finally, while some of the audio quality issues might be getting fixed in this episode, we have big changes coming soon. Equipment upgrades and better skills on my end will create a better overall listening experience to all our lovely listeners.

So strap in, this is going to be interesting.

After having some hardware meltdowns I’m back with a spontaneous interview with Ivo Dominguez Jr. He came through town and was gracious enough to spend time with me in the studio. He’s a fascinating man and having spent the majority of his life in the pagan community has a thought of poignant thoughts on the progress of Wicca over the years and the LGBT+ contributions to the religion. After an hour or so of talking identity and nature religions, we finally get around to his new book Keys to Perception. It’s a fantastic introduction to psychic development for anyone on their journey. Even as someone not prone to psychic work, I’ve been enjoying the book immensely.

This is a long interview so buckle up. There’s a lot of ground to cover.

First podcast of the month brings you an herb, an essential oil, and returning this month a stone. We have a great show this month, covering so many topics. I have with me in the studio today Dr. Benjamin Dykes. This was an enlightening and fascinating discussion about his work through classical philosophy and into traditional astrology. Over the past decade, Dr. Dykes has translated the works of Guido Bonatti, Leopold of Austria, Mbu Ma’shar, and al-Qabisi, among others. With the release of The Celestial Art by Three Hands Press, we discuss his essay "The Planetary Magic among the Harranian Sabians" and all the implications this work has for the history and practice of astrological and ceremonial magic. Welcome back to class listeners. Again, late in the month, and for that I apologize. I will say I’m working on a big project, and that is taking up a lot of my time. More on that soon. ;) This month I sit down with Liz Johnson, co-owner and master herbalist of Magus Books and Herbs, to talk about hops - that delightfully bitter herb that is in nearly all beer made today. Who knew beer was so good for relaxing, and not just because of the alcohol.
