Aubrey Masango speaks with Babsy Mlangeni about his music career. At 82 years young, this music legend shares his life experiences.
He talks about how he has heightened all his other senses since becoming blind as a young child. "I was blind at three," he says, adding that children could be very cruel. "I was the only blind boy around there, and they would call me names.:
Throughout six decades of his musical career, he explains that his love for music began at the Athlone School for the Blind. "However, before that, we lived in Orlando, and musicians would come by playing guitars." He would follow them and sometimes even get lost because he loved music so much as a child. He says he always remembered his street address so they could take him back home.
However, it was at the Athlone School for the Blind that he found others who shared his experience. "I found peace because we were all blind." He mentions there were numerous talented individuals who played various instruments.
