Auburn’s defense faced an incredible 99 plays against Baylor, but Rayshawn Pleasant says the game was actually EASIER than practice. What does that say about the conditioning and toughness DJ Durkin has built into this defense? Dallas Walker also credits Alex Golesh’s up-tempo offense for preparing Auburn to handle that kind of workload. We also break down Jeremiah Koger calling Byrum Brown “a dog” after Brown bounced back from three interceptions to lead the game-winning touchdown drive. What matters more moving forward: the three picks or the way Brown responded? Plus, Jo Simmons takes ownership of Auburn allowing five sacks and calls that performance “unacceptable.” Is the offensive line a real concern, or does this new group simply need more time playing together? Auburn now turns its attention to Southern Miss and the home opener at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn spent the entire offseason hearing Alex Golesh talk about leadership.

Becoming player-led.

Next-man-up.

Responding when something goes wrong.

Against Baylor?

Those weren't offseason talking points anymore.

Auburn actually had to prove them.

And three examples from the Tigers' 17-16 win should have Auburn fans encouraged about what Golesh is building.

Start with Elijah Melendez.

The sophomore linebacker was selected as one of Auburn's captains, and Golesh said the defense CHEERED when his name was announced.

Then Melendez went out and recorded 12 tackles.

That's not just a coaching staff telling us somebody is becoming a leader.

His teammates are telling us too.

Then there's Eric Winters.

After a miscommunication helped Baylor score its final touchdown, Winters had every opportunity to let that mistake define his night.

Instead, Baylor essentially came right back at him on the two-point conversion.

Winters made the play.

Game over.

Auburn wins.

Then look at the offensive line.

Both starting guards went down, forcing Auburn to use two backups when it desperately needed a touchdown.

Not in garbage time.

Not with the game decided.

With Auburn's undefeated season sitting in the balance.

And the Tigers went down the field and scored.

None of this means Auburn has arrived.

Far from it.

The offensive line has to improve. The offense has to sustain drives. The defense can't play nearly 100 snaps every Saturday.

But Auburn didn't beat Baylor because everything worked.

A lot DIDN'T work.

Auburn won because when something went wrong, somebody made the next play.

That's exactly what Alex Golesh has spent months trying to build.

And Saturday gave us our first real evidence that his players might be buying in.

Alex Golesh went back to the film after Auburn’s win over Baylor, and he learned A LOT about his football team.

Golesh revealed which Auburn players stood out, including Elijah Melendez, Eric Wyers, Jeremiah Koger, Jared Smith, Bryson Washington, Keshaun Singleton and more. But his biggest message may have been about the standard Auburn has to establish moving forward: “Now we need everybody to do it.”

We break down the players who are emerging as potential pillars for Alex Golesh’s program, who may have earned a bigger role, and why Auburn’s young talent looked ready for the moment.

Plus, Golesh was very direct about one major concern on offense. Auburn’s interior offensive line wasn’t physical enough against Baylor, and that has to improve if the Tigers want to get Jeremiah Cobb more touches and keep Byrum Brown from having to carry the rushing attack.

Auburn got the win. Now Alex Golesh is making it very clear what has to happen next.
