Has it been a while?
You know the feeling… you got off to a great start with your book (thinking smug is the word here amiright?) but then… well life just got in the way.
And now it's been an age since you wrote a word. But don't panic; you are not alone my friend.
There's one thing most writers have in common — the occasional bout with writer's block. You know what I'm talking about. It's that feeling of knowing you really should sit down and write, but no matter how hard you try you just can't bring yourself to do it.
'Writer's block' is an easy, two-word explanation as to why everything else has taken priority over putting words down on a page. But the truth is that why you're not writing isn't quite that simple.
You see, there is something underneath that label that is what you're allowing to hold you back. (And yes, you're allowing it because it is a choice.) It's not just about not feeling like it or struggling to find the words to write, because I assure you that when you're not writing, there's a reason.
On this episode of The AUTHORity Show, we'll talk about some practical ways you can amp yourself up to write again, but that's just a start. We're going to dive even deeper to help you uncover the real reason you're avoiding writing.
Because once you can identify what's been holding you back, you not only have the ability to get your mojo back, but you've got the power to keep it.
Tune in, then come back and see me on IG @jessicakillingley when you're done. I want to know what's been holding you back, and what you plan to do to overcome it.
Here are the highlights:
{1:51} Reclaiming your mojo
{3:40} Identify your North Star
{5:26} Write your dream 5 star review and use it to motivate you
{7:51} If you really want to write your book, you will

One of the traps people fall into when considering writing a book is that they think it's all about writing. They think if they can do that, they'll be good to go.
The thing is, writing is only one piece of the entire puzzle. There's work you've got to do before and after that will make the process a whole lot easier. Not only that, but when you do it the right way, it ensures you have a finished product that will do what it's supposed to do — help solve a problem for your people, but also work hard for you in your business.
In this episode of The AUTHORity Show, I'll take you through the entire journey of planning, writing, and promoting your book from start to finish. I've got ten steps for you to follow that will ensure you don't miss a thing.
Even if you've just started thinking about writing a book, it's a great place to start.
Much better than diving in head first only to find out you've missed some really important bits along the way.
So tune in and take notes because trust me, this is going to help you. And if you're ready to take the next step and start planning out your book, hit me up on Instagram @jessicakillingly and let me know how I can help.

So you're ready to write a book, are you? You know what you're going to write about and how many words you want it to be, so that's all you need to know. Right?
Don't. You. Wish.
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is not taking the time — before they write their first word — to make sure it's the right book. And I know you may be thinking I've lost my mind because come on, now...there is no such thing as a wrong book.
Which is, I'm afraid, bollocks.
So how do you make sure you don't go down the wrong path before you even get started?
Well, there are a few ways to tell if your book is the one you should write. You've got to take the time to think about what solutions you have for your readers, but you've got to take a bit of yourself into consideration too, believe it or not.
Because of that, it's totally worth the time to drill down a bit more, because it can help you be sure you're heading in the right direction.
On this episode of The AUTHORITY Show, I'll dive into the 3 main questions you need to ask yourself before you ever sit down to start writing.
They just might save you from getting halfway done — or even years down the road — and realizing it wasn't the book you're supposed to write.
So sit back and enjoy the show. When you're done, come find me on Instagram @jessicakillingley and let me know what your biggest takeaways are. And if this episode has inspired you to write a different book than planned, I'd love to know what the right one is.
Here are the highlights:
{4:35} What you think you know before you write your book
{5:50} The easy book to write can still be the wrong book to write
{6:54} The length of your book is not a selling point
{8:16} Solving specific problems for your readers
{8:52) The 3 focusses you need to nail your bestselling book idea

So you want to be a bestselling author, do you? Well, before we dive in too deep into the how-to, I must warn you this is one of my favorite ranty topics.
(So this was a perfect episode to dig out of the archives for our chilled August. I hope you are easing back a little this month, because THAT is when the good creative stuff happens... m'k? Right - back to it)
Why, you ask? Because wanting to be a bestseller usually means you want that little orange Amazon bestseller band across your book. I get ranty because the truth is that's just a vanity metric — and it's all a bunch of bollocks.
All that little tag means is that you did a great job of hacking the Amazon algorithm. Congratulations, what an accomplishment. (You can probably feel my eyes roll from where you are.)
Don't get me wrong: being a bestselling book author isn't a bad thing. It's all in how you go about getting there. In fact, if your book is actually a bestseller, it means you've written something that has the potential to make a huge impact — on your reader, but also on you.
That's the goal, isn't it? And if you want to reach that goal, instead of asking how you can write a book that's a bestseller, you've got to ask yourself a better question.
Wondering what that question is? Give this episode a listen and I'll tell you.
I promise it will help you really drill down to figure out how you can write a book that will continue to sell because it's making a difference in people's lives.
(And maybe you can get that little orange banner to stick around for more than 5 seconds.)
When you're finished, come find me on IG @jessicakillingley and let me know WHY you want to become a bestselling book author — because I know it's going to be good.
Here are the highlights:
{4:59} How to be an Amazon bestseller
{7:08} Bestseller in the Traditional Publishing Industry
{9:07} The importance of reviews
{12:32} Overpass limiting beliefs and get results
{16:14} Turn readers into clients

Putting off writing your book because you don't know where the hell to start? You're not alone, my friend. If I had a pound for every person who said they wanted to write a book but never got around to it, I'd be recording this podcast from a mansion on a hill by the sea.
But much like you, they haven't started because they actually don't want to write it. They just don't have a bloody idea of where to start.
So that is why for the month of August, we are going to be revisiting some episodes from the archives so that whilst you're chilling over the summer (you ARE chilling, right?) you can get back to basics and get some of that creativity flowing. That way, we can all be ready for the pedal to hit the metal come September - deal?
So where was I? Oh yes...
The thing is, people write and publish books every day, so what do they know that you don't? Well, the answer to that is exactly why this episode exists.
It starts with asking the right question, which is why do you want to write a book? Please don't bore me by telling me it's because you've always wanted to write one. I don't care all that much (and neither does anyone else).
You're going to have to dig a bit deeper to get to the heart of it — that's why I'm telling you how on this episode of The AUTHORity Show. I'll share a bit of my own personal experience to show you how you can figure out exactly what you have to offer to your readers.
When you ask the right questions, you'll know why your book needs to exist and who it can help. That's the key to writing something that's beneficial — to both you and your reader.
Tune in and take notes, because this could be the difference between sitting around wanting to write a book and you actually doing it.
When you're done, hit me up on IG and let me know how this helped you and if you've figured it out, tell me what book you're going to write.
Here are the highlights:

So this fabulous person you know in the entrepreneurial space is putting together a book of inspiring stories and *gasp* they've asked you to contribute. Before you break out a bottle of bubbly to celebrate this amazing opportunity to become a published author, we need to have a chat.
I know it seems like a really great marketing plan to be a part of a book like this, because it will get your name out there and give you the publicity you've been looking for.
But when you break it all down, it could actually end up being a waste of time, energy, and money simply because the outcome won't end up like you're expecting.
I talk about this subject on my Instagram all the time, but to be clear, when I say 'talk' I really mean I get quite ranty. But that's only because I am very passionate about making sure your hard work pays off in the end.
Survey says: in this case, it won't.
On this episode of The AUTHORity Show, I'm talking all about why I think contributing to someone else's book isn't what you think it will be. I thought it might be more productive to share my thoughts in a less-ranty, more moderated way so you fully understand why I think there are better ways to share your story.
If contributing to someone else's book is something you've been considering, I highly recommend tuning into this episode.
Of course I'd love to hear what you think about it all, so swing by my Instagram @jessicakillingley and let me know what you think.
And if you disagree with my thoughts, I love to be proved wrong. Let me know why you think this is actually a brilliant marketing plan — just maybe you'll be able to convince me.
Here are the highlights:
{1:51} A massive, massive, massive waste of time
{3:57} Calling yourself a published author without doing the work
{6:30} It is basically the same as buying ad space
{7:57} Inspiration stories belong on Instagram
{9:55} It's easy to be a best-seller with 20 contributors
{12:43} Have you had a positive experience?

So when you tell me you're going to write a book, I'll be the first to make sure you know in advance that the actual writing part is a relatively small part of your journey.
Now I realize that could sway you from doing it altogether, but because I really care about you and your book is extremely important, I'm going to be straight with you from the start.
Because let's be honest here: you aren't writing a book for the fun of it. You're writing it because you want it to work hard for you in your business and make a big impact on the people who will read it.
And in order to get people to actually read it, we've got to make sure it's not pure shit.
So how do we do that? Well, on this episode of The AUTHORity Show, I'll walk you through everything you need to know to take your first rough draft all the way through making it fit to print.
Just know that no one loves this process. But if you want a better book on the other side, you buckle up, do the work, and get it done so you can celebrate with tons of sales (and brilliant reviews).
Grab a pen, tune in, and take notes because I'm covering a good bit today. Hit me up on Instagram @jessicakillingley and let me know what you liked most about it.

One of the things you'll hear me say sometimes is that if you're going to write a book about your life, no one cares. Well, that is unless you can take your life experience and what you've learned from it and use it to help others.
That's precisely what Rhiannon Spurgeon did when she decided to write her book, Grief without Guilt: It Gets Better if You Let it, Even if it's Complicated.
After facing a significant loss all on her own, she realised how important support is not only when grieving the loss, but also learning to live with the new layer of identity that comes along with it.
Her journey of writing such an emotional book has come with a lot of lessons, and Rhiannon is here on this episode of The AUTHORity Show to share them.
While she started writing from a place of digging into the wound, her completed book you see today comes more from the scar, because it was refined after moving through healing.
Rhiannon is a great example of how a painful experience can not only be used to help others, but can also connect you to a greater purpose that will continue to aid people in healing for years to come.
Tune in and let me tell you, it would be smart to have a box of tissues nearby, because if I'm crying, chances are you will, too.
If you've experienced something in your life that you know can help others find their way through it, come share it with me on Instagram @jessicakillingley and let's chat about how you can get started.
You can find out more about Rhiannon and her work at the Totally Awesome Women's Network here and read more about her book here and buy it on amazon.

But if you've got significant life transformation that lays the groundwork for helping others do the same?
Well, now you've got yourself a book that will sell.
