As we continue our conversation with Guyanese author Ric Couchman, he encourages aspiring authors to focus on the story first. You can get help with the writing later on.

Ric reminds us to not let the perception of our writing ability hinder us from telling our stories and publishing a book.

In this episode Ric talks about the story behind "The Little Boy from Water Street," his plans for this book and his upcoming works (Requiem for Shira) and "From Faith to Faith"). He speaks about how retirement gave him the time to write.

Narrative poetry. Yes, it's a thing. In this episode, our guest sheds more light on it.

Ric Couchman is a brilliant Guyanese poet, author, and retired educator. He recently released his new novel, "The Little Boy from Water Street." I sat with him to discuss his writing journey and the art of storytelling.

Today is the course launch of "Write and Retire Right" and I am sharing an abridged version of a digital seminar on how to retire right with books.

It's a very practical seminar and part of the course itself.

If you are 40 and over, don't miss this! We are continuing the series on writing and retirement.

An article by AIHR states, “With people living longer than ever before, many retirees will spend more time out of work than in their entire careers. This poses significant challenges, particularly from a pension perspective.”

This means the course I have created is important in meeting this need. It gives retirees something meaningful to do in retirement and is an added income source.

If you are 40 and over, don't miss this! We are continuing the series on writing and retirement. In preparing this episode, I did a little research on ageism and challenges associated with ageing.

An article by AIHR states, “With people living longer than ever before, many retirees will spend more time out of work than in their entire careers. This poses significant challenges, particularly from a pension perspective.”  That’s much food for thought.

This means the course I have created is important in meeting this needed. It gives retirees something meaningful to do in retirement and is an added income source.

In today’s episode I'll make a case for writing in retirement and include an excerpt from the book, “Write and Retire Right,” it is chapter 4, titled, “Retiring Right," to encourage you to sign up for the course, Write and Retire Right.

Why should you bother with print books?

My recent experiences with "Karissa’s Second Chance" validate the need for print and based on a recent communication from Draft2Digital, there are more print readers than digital readers.

They based their conclusion on a  2022 Pew Research report that examined the reading habits of Americans:

· Of the 75% of respondents who read at least one book in the prior year, just 13.8% said they read only digital books (ebooks and audio).

· Three times as many (49%) read only print books. An additional 37.2% read both print and digital.

· Digital-only publishers may be missing out on 86% of the potential readership for their books.

In the Caribbean, we too, have more print readers than digital readers. It’s been the preference in my experience since embarking on this writing and publishing path over the last 10 years.

I also share two more reasons why print books matter: higher profitability and the pleasure and need for presenting the book to others, whether as a speaker or just to show to friends and family.
