The Avid Indoorsmen

The hilarious 1996 La Cage aux Folles adaptation, The Birdcage, is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary! To commemorate this big occasion we devoted an entire episode to it!

We brought back to the podcast Broadway/film/TV actor Benny Elledge and making his AI debut fellow NYC actor/UMD alumn Brian Skellenger. It was fun to reminisce about our old college days and break down this comedic classic.

We end this episode with a fun Starting 5 game and our Patrons get to hear our Top 5 LGBTQ+ Films Draft.

Enjoy!

This was a really special episode for us because we were able to talk with an actor that we have loved for a very long time, John Carroll Lynch! We had a great time picking his brain about his experience with Fargo, his time spent in Minnesota and his directorial debut.

Then we break down Fargo, just the two of us, and end with a movie game called Last Man Stanton. Our Patrons then get to hear us draft our Top 5 Favorite Coen Brothers Films!

We are now offering a new Patreon tier where you can watch the Zoom calls with our guests and the first one released will be our interview with John Carroll Lynch!

The last time a film won Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Picture was 30 years ago for The Silence of the Lambs.

We knew we wanted to talk about this film since it’s celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary and it’s so iconic. We found a couple of wonderful returning guests who had some great insights, The Hound + The Fox’s Reilly and McKenzie Zamber. We had a blast discussing this intense, suspenseful film with them.

We conclude with a fun game we call The Starting 5 and our Patrons get to listen to us draft our Top 5 Serial Killer Films.

We’re back with another Movie Game Night!!! We thought it would be fun to get a bunch of returning guests who just so happened to all go to the same high school as Rob, Park Center HS located in Brooklyn Park, MN. This episode features: Benny Elledge, Tim St.Sauver, Dan Ristrom and J.Michael Trautmann. It was so much fun to have a little high school reunion and things got pretty goofy in this one. We apologize for the excessive laughter!!!

2020 is in the books and we thought it would be fun to do a 2020 Year in Review episode ranking our Top 10 favorite movies of the year.

Many movies that were supposed to come out were rescheduled (like so many things in 2020) and we saw way fewer new movies than we would during a “normal” year. However, there were still many worth seeing so listen up if you want some recommendations!

Our Patrons get to hear us rank our favorite TV Series of 2020, and there were a TON of quality shows released this year. Join Patreon if you need a new series recommendation!

We hope you’re doing well so far in 2021!

Enjoy!

We are joined again by two wonderful humans, @samimatarante and @olenanoelle, to talk about the newest superhero film, Wonder Woman 1984.

This movie has gotten some mixed reviews and our takes are all over the place. After we give our thoughts, we end the episode with a fun game we call The Starting 5 and our Patrons can hear us draft our Top 5 Favorite Movies Where A Wish Is Granted.

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently available on HBO Max. Like all of our episodes, it’s much more enjoyable if you’ve seen the film we’re discussing, as there are many spoilers.

For the first episode of 2021 we wanted to talk about the 2017 film Wonder Woman, in preparation for the sequel that just came out to HBO Max, Wonder Woman 1984!

It’s a new year so we had to bring on a new guest to the pod, our good friend Olena Lysenko! She is joined by one of her best friends and one of our favorite recurring guests, Sami Matarante! These two had some really fun insights on the female empowering, Wonder Woman.

We ended the episode with an Imitation Game and our Patrons get to hear us draft our Top 5 Badass Female Characters.

We hope you have fun re-watching Wonder Woman and listening to this episode before the sequel comes out. Spoiler alert: The next episode will be on WW84.

Hooray! We are almost done with 2020! We thought we’d end the year with one of our favorite Rom-Coms of all time and a film that always reminds us of New Year’s Eve, When Harry Met Sally.

Rob’s much better half, Kelsey, came back to the pod to give her thoughts on this film and she is always a delight. We end with the Blockbuster movie game we haven’t played in a long time...

Way back in March we held a contest with our Patrons on who could get the most Oscars guessed correctly and whoever won could come on the show. Carolyn Schult was the winner and she decided to come on and draft her Top 5 Favorite Romantic Comedies with us! It was super fun! Thanks to Carolyn for coming on the show!

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! Let’s hope that 2021 is so much better!!!!!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Hoping you’re all feeling the holiday spirit because we are here to talk about The Santa Clause!

We put up several polls on what Christmas movie we should chat about for our Christmas Eve episode and The Santa Clause sleighed the competition...

We decided to keep it nice and cozy and just have the two of us discuss Tim Allen’s portrayal of Santa Claus. It was a great time!

Buegs ended the show with a fun trivia game about the podcast since we just celebrated our 2 year anniversary! And our Patrons get to hear us draft our Top 5 Favorite Santa Clauses.

We hope you all stay happy, healthy and safe this holiday season!

The Coen Brothers film that gave us the Soggy Bottom Boys, O Brother, Where Art Thou, is having it’s 20th Anniversary.

There are many reasons we wanted to talk about this southern take on Homer’s Odyssey, but the biggest reason is because Rob’s bandmate, Austin Brown, is great friends with Quinn Gasaway who played Boy Hogwallop in the film! We were able to get Quinn to tell us some really fun stories about the audition process and what it was like on set, and both Austin & Quinn gave their entertaining takes on the film.

We ended with a game we call The Starting 5 and since this film’s soundtrack was such a hit, our Patrons can hear us draft our Top 5 Favorite Movie Soundtracks.
