Gut-level honesty is vulnerable and scary–a bit like walking into a room with no pants on. It takes a special kind of courage and holds a special kind of power that leads to a form of intimacy with yourself and with God. Today I welcome Jennifer Dukes Lee. She has written a beautiful guided journal that will push your limits of vulnerability and self-reflection. It will plumb the depths of your history. It will help you understand what makes you tick and what ticks you off. It's a journal that offers you space to write what you believe to be true and the truths you’ve reconsidered. It’s a place to record all the outlandish and outrageous things that make you you. This is a fantastic conversation about asking the right questions. Listen in. One of the scariest things about leaving social media as a writer is the thought of losing connection with people. But for the WRITER, this problem cannot be easily solved in the bleachers at baseball practice.
We understand the fear and concern of losing community as a writer. And that’s why we have been incredibly intentional about finding and building community outside of social media. Today we will tell you some ways we have not only replaced that community we lost on SM but actually found richer, more authentic connections. For a community of other writers, join Writing Off Social: The Course-beginning June 5, 2023. For show notes visit https://writingoffsocial.com/8

In the 1990s a very specific marketing campaign emerged to target women, advertising sweet, pink, beautiful alcoholic drinks and showing women happy consuming alcohol in social situations. A few years later hilariously clever memes showed up on Facebook hailing wine as the preferred coping mechanism for parenting stress. And it was wildly successful: In the last 15 years, the greatest increase in alcohol consumption has been in women in their 30s and 40s...1 in 5 women struggle with alcohol use. Today I welcome to the podcast Dana Bowman, an author of 2 books, a speaker, a writing Instructor, and a mom in recovery. She is here to discuss with me the whole concept of the Wine Mom Culture. I have been thinking about getting old a LOT lately. I’ll be 55 this year…my body continues to change, my skin looks a little saggy, and I’m drifting further and further away from pop culture and what young people think is cool. Evidenced by the fact that I still say “cool.” But one of the undeniable benefits of growing older is developing spiritual maturity. What does spiritual maturity look like?
