  • Daily Photo Q&A #43: Freeform Friday? Photography Deposits?
Todays Question: I don't want to do todays question. Can we start a freeform friday? Today Paul wants to just shoot the shit. But he actually ends up asking some photography questions about paying deposits and when I would refund a couple their money if their wedding was canceled. It can be a tricky situation when a wedding is called off. Check out more at www.BeginnerPhotographyPodcast.com Have A Question? • Daily Photo Q&A #42: "Can You Just Give Me The Unedited Photos?"
Todays Question: What is a polite way to tell a client I wont give her the unedited photos for her family mini session? It's a common question every photographer will get at some point. "Can I just get the unedited photos" Typically the client by no means any ill will they assume it will save you a lot of time and will get them their photos faster. This is typically a problem of education. I always stress getting your photo right in camera and that editing is just the last 5% of the work. But that 5% is like "The Rug" that ties a whole room together. On its own its nice but in this room it SHINES! So when a client asks to just have the unedited photos, educate them. First off find out WHY they want the unedited photos. Is it because they do want them faster or is it because they think they can edit them better them selfs? Ask them why they hired you. Did they want a warm body to just press a button or were they hiring you for your talent? Let them know you don't feel comfortable with it and let them know the second the photos are ready. Don't let it be an option.  Check out more at www.BeginnerPhotographyPodcast.com Have A Question? • Daily Photo Q&A #41: To Watermark or NOT To Watermark?
Todays Question: I looked at your website and I love your photos but are you ever worried that someone is going to steal your photos since you don't watermark them? When it comes to watermarking your photos, I understand the idea behind it. If you put your name on it, it cant be stolen, and if it is then people will know you took the photo and come back to hire you! Ive been there. When I started out I watermarked my photos. It was more about brand recognition than being worried my photos would be stolen but a watermark is a watermark. I stoped putting watermarks on my photos originally out of pure laziness. And never went back. Im just one local photographer in a sea of a 100 million. Im not saying it cant happen to me but there are far better photographers than I and if someone wanted to do themself a disservice and pass off my photos as their own work then good luck. If I was a large target or my business model revolved around prints then yeah watermarking might be a priority but I shoot photos for couples. The only people who would want to steal the photos are the couple, who have the photo, and sleeze bag photographers who would rather spend time looking for work to steal rather than just creating their own work.  Check out more at www.BeginnerPhotographyPodcast.com Have A Question? • Daily Photo Q&A #40: What You Need To Know About Photography
Todays Question: What should someone who is getting interested in photography know? Photography is a great hobby. It can be rewarding, a great way to meet new people, and a creatively fulfilling outlet. Its not all roses and honey though. Photography can get frustrating at times. You see photos from other photographers you want to replicate and are confident you can nail it but when you try, nothing seems to be working right. Photography requires patience. There are a lot of new terms thrown at you every day that common photography lingo and you feel like you will never understand it. Photography requires patience! It will come to you. Don't over think it, just have fun with it! Check out more at www.BeginnerPhotographyPodcast.com Have A Question? • Daily Photo Q&A #39: Dealing With Kids During A Family Session
Todays Question: I take a lot of photos of my kids that are great but when I take photos of other peoples kids they are never as good! What can I do to make kids more open around the camera? Im glad Im not the only one! Photographing kids can be challenging! When its your kids, they are comfortable around you. You can tell them to stand still so you can test out some light and they will have to listen. When you photograph other peoples kids it can be a complete disaster. They don't know who you are, the parents are getting frustrated trying to wrangle them all together which makes them sad or cry and no one wants those photos. Luckily Holly in the new Beginner Photography Podcast Facebook Group shared this link to a blog on Coles Classroom that really helped me understand how to handle the little ones and even a trick or two to deal with kids when Im at a wedding! Point is, let kids be kids but play to their strengths, wear them out so at the end you can get posed photos that they will sit still for! Click here to read the blog post! • Daily Photo Q&A #38: Is The Exposure Triangle Just Not Clicking?
Todays Question: I can't go back to auto but the Triangle of DEATH “The exposure triangle” frustrates me too much! Help make it “Click” for me. Pun intended. When you're starting out in photography all of the new technical terms can easily throw you off. I understand! So I hope this makes you feel better. After I had my Ahh-haa moment I never thought about the exposure triangle again. Still to this day. Its just intuitive. So keep working on it and once you get it you'll be set forever! In this episode I try to compare exposure to a glass of water, a faucet and a bucket. I know it does not make sense typed out, but just listen for yourself and see. Then if you have any follow up questions Ill be here to answer them!
