*Happy Memorial Day: It’s True Meaning!
(0:48) Jake is solo today, it is a pre-recorded episode because they are currently heading back from Jamaica! As well, Happy Memorial Day
(1:30) This is our second Jamaica trip
(2:10) Jake’s grandparents had home in Jamaica while he was growing up so he would visit often
(2:20) We don’t do the touristy stuff, we rent a car and get up in the mountains and hang with the locals
(2:45) We have 3 more workshops coming up, the 14th, 15th, and 16th of June and we are also starting the summer golf programs!
(3:26) We are currently taking requests for July to start a golf program, so if you are interested in me coming out to your country club or if you want to come over to True Spec we can do it there, just reach out to me and let me know ASAP!
(3:57) Happy Memorial Day to everyone and Jake explains the true meaning of Memorial Day
(4:14) Both of Jake’s grandparents on his mother’s side were in the Army, they were in WW2 in the Korean War and actually met in the army
(4:25) Someone Jake grew up with, who was like an uncle to him, was a Marine in Vietnam and a best friend of Jake is an Afghanistan War Veteran but today is not about them because they are the lucky ones, they made it home
(4:44) Today is about those who were unlucky and did not make it home. They are the reason that we get to live the American dream today
(4:57) Freedom is not free and it is easy to forget that
(5:27) Jake has a challenge for you, email him back the results on what you find from his challenge
(6:15) Think about it.. America is truly the best country in the world. Jake knows and has worked with many migrant workers who came over here just for a CHANCE
(7:00) This truly is the land of opportunity, if you don’t believe it, look at how many kids are becoming millionaires through social media
(8:07) There truly is no excuse for not getting what you want in this life, we play victim so often and limit our belief systems
(8:35) Just because I don’t know the answer or way or because nobody has done yet doesn’t mean it can’t be done
(8:44) Jake provides an example of the above
(9:13) Jake would ask his mentor a question and he would reply, “What do you think the answer is?” and Jake would think to himself, “I don’t know what the answer is, that’s why I asked!”
(9:35) What this did was make Jake really start to think, and thought after a thought after a thought and after one more thought, Jake would give his answer and it would end up being correct
(9:44) Jake provides another example and he would always come up with the answer to his question
(10:10) The point of the story is, is that we are all capable of doing pretty much whatever we want to do and live any lifestyle we want to because of the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice
(11:01) Because of Jake’s business coach and because of all this learning, growing, and mentoring that Jake has gone through, he has always said, “Okay, let’s figure it out, let’s find a way, there is a way, this is not the end, there is a way but we just don’t see it yet!”
(11:21) So that’s what today is about, today is about those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so some kid could become a millionaire playing video games and streaming it.
(11:40) They also gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can fight with each other on Facebook (12:00) Just stop and think for a minute today, and think to yourself that chances are, you are able to be doing what you are currently doing because of those that made the ultimate sacrifice and are not here today. Really think about it. Freedom is not free. We have people all over the world fighting for our right to fight with each other on Facebook
(12:31) They are fighting for our right for us to take today off and burn some hotdogs and burgers. They did that. And the ones that didn’t make it home, today is about them!

(1:01) The Berman Method is about treating problems not symptoms, so we want to identify where that problem is coming from. Whether it has to do with your metabolism, back pain, autoimmune disease
(1:45) These things will come back whether it be from a food that you may sensitive to or overdo a workout and not get the proper recovery but if we know where the problem is coming from and know how to treat that, we can decrease the duration of the symptoms, the intensity of the symptoms so then our body gets into recovery faster
(2:37) Today we will be talking about nutrition and muscle recovery
(3:25) We recently just started working out at a gym called “ D1 Training” in Naples
(5:46) Exercise is important, we NEED to move our body everyday and it is 20% of the weight loss
(6:16) As we go through hormonal changes as we age, our metabolism slows down therefore leaving less fuel in our body
(7:32) Multiple other factors that cause a change in metabolism
(8:57) You can't outwork a bad diet
(10:12) Everything we do for PT is looking at you from head to toe, figuring out what is causing the muscles to activate incorrectly, to look at the alignment of the different joints to see if the muscles are firing how they are supposed to
(11:58) We want you to put on lean muscle mass
(12:37) Those with more muscle mass, live longer lives. Your muscles are going to be what continues to allow your body to move, allow you to move longer, your metabolism will be revved up longer, keeps the organs functioning at higher level for a longer period of time.(13:00) Jenni goes over her thesis on bed ridden patients, in PA school, specifically those with hip replacements and how it affected their mortality rate and explains what she learned
(14:36) Something we have at the PT department is the Ultimate Muscle Recovery Package and this provides supplements that help recover your muscles the way they should. Whether it be after a PT session, workout, round of golf, etc.
(14:58) You also want to be focusing on your meal plan to help your muscles recover as well. One of the things in the Muscle Recovery Package is a bottle of protein powder
(15:50) We have to provide protein to the muscles to allow for muscle recovery. Protein is one of the most important things for blood sugar stability when it comes to fat burning, brain fog, memory and being able to gain lean muscle mass
(17:32) Something else in the Muscle Recovery Package is L-Glutamine. Both Jake and Jenni take it everyday
(18:10) L-Glutamine is an amino acid meaning it’s natural. It helps with muscle recovery, it is also important for the gut lining. It regenerates the gut lining. The healthier our gut is, the healthier our body is going to be, the less inflammation we have and the more we can absorb nutrients for muscle recovery.
(19:06) The next thing in our Muscle Recovery Package is electrolytes. Electrolytes are something we need to balance, too much is bad. We also don’t want to dilute our electrolytes. When we drink a lot of water it can dilute our electrolytes
(21:19) The last thing we have in the Ultimate Recovery Package is something called “Best Rest”, this helps you sleep through the night which really helps your muscles recover
(22:01) The “Best Rest” supplement has helped so many of our clients with sleep, including those who have tried anything and everything to help with sleep. When you are not getting a proper night's rest, your body isn’t in recovery
(24:09) It is non addictive. It is not a prescription but still always consult with your doctor
(26:54) Dehydration can decrease metabolism by 30%. Muscles are 73% water
(27:27) Generally speaking males should get at least 90 oz. of water a day while women should get 70 oz
(28:22) Even if you aren’t in Naples we can ship you the Ultimate Recovery Package
(28:30) Take home message from today is you HAVE to fuel your body

(1:48) TikTok took Jake by surprise
(2:39) The comments on TikTok are not afraid to go after Jake, they are vicious and Jake LOVES it because it means we are making it to where we want to be!
(4:07) The next TikTok video Jake called them all out!
(4:40) A lot of the comments were, “Why doesn’t he wear shoes?”
(4:50) So if you have any comments, don’t be afraid to comment them
(5:03) We have some workshops coming up this week. Summer time is when we bring back workshops. Before we didn’t have it virtual but this year we will be doing the workshops both in-house and virtual
(5:47) We will still have limited virtual seats because of the Q&A sessions at the end, a lot of the value comes from the Q&A
(5:58) What even is a workshop? It is a chance for people to ask any questions they may have and for us to answer them as simply as possible and make it as clear as possible
(7:27) We are going to be doing 3 workshops a month throughout the summer, one workshop for each section of our business (Physical Therapy, Health & Wellness, Golf)
(7:55) Who are these workshops for? Ideally we are looking for new people, patients, new interests, people that haven’t worked with us before. Or even if you have in one area and have questions in a different area, bringing friends and family who may be interested in.(8:49) Workshops are perfect for that friend or family member that has been putting off coming in even though you know they should. There is no obligation or any focus on them so it is a lot less intimidating to bring that person in that is skeptical of taking your advice to come and see us. It also helps give them clarity
(9:34) The specific workshops for this month. Wellness will be talking about weight loss, energy levels, improving sleep, and improving abdominal fat
(10:00) Physical therapy workshop is on back pain. Specifically, 5 ways you can strengthen your back to avoid surgery and pain
(10:30) The most important part of the PT workshop will be the causes of back pain and Jake gives you a little teaser
(10:53) The golf workshop is similar, the best way to increase shoulder turn, hit the ball farther and play golf with less back pain
(11:42) In house workshops will be very limited with only 5 seats and zoom virtual will only have 15
(12:30) Register ASAP if you want to attend multiple
(12:35) How to Register
(13:28) The point of these workshops is to answer questions that you are unsure of and to give you some knowledge of where you are wanting to go, in where your interest is and to get something you can take away from the workshop to start your journey
(13:52) Another good reason to sign up is so you can yell at Jake in person
(14:20) How much does each workshop cost? (Hint: THEY ARE ALL FREE)
(15:50) You’re basically getting paid to hang out with Jake and Jenni while learning all this knowledge, it’s priceless ;)
(16:30) Jenni didn’t get in until almost 3 in the morning this past night. The only flight available to Jenni was at 1:50 AM and then it got delayed, so she didn’t have time for much sleep, but she still loves today because it’s Monday!
(18:30) Jake had a lot of yard work yesterday to do and even had to cook dinner for himself last night, he even ate healthy
(19:49) We are having workshops with very limited seating. The first one is tomorrow, which is Jenni’s health and wellness workshop. The PT workshop is on Wednesday and Golf is on Thursday
(20:42) This is just the first workshop of the summer, we will be having more in June, July, August and September
(21:15) If they attend one in May can they attend one in June? Maybe on an individual basis, we want to give fair opportunity to everyone and the topics will change each month

(0:49) Jake is here solo today
(1:10) Today Jake is going to be answering questions
(1:48) In regard to health & wellness, will I be on a set diet? Short answer: Absolutely Not
(3:33) Over the past years, there has been an upgrade in the gluten free food section, especially pasta
(4:15) By far the most common question we get is, why don’t we take insurance?
(5:14) Health & Wellness is essentially preventive care
(5:43) Because of the financial interest of insurance companies, they are not willing to go down ounce of prevention because that’s not how they make their money
(6:27) The reason that we do NOT take health insurance
(7:08) Insurance is killing your healthcare
(7:35) Think of your health as investment
(9:13) Essentially, we don’t take health insurance because we want to fix the problem not the symptom
(9:17) Next question, Do I have to come in weekly? Depends on your goals!
(12:08) Next question, how long will it take for my pain to go away? This is a question that we get all the time because the patient realizes this might quiet the expensive endeavor
(12:31) My answer all the time is, “How long did it take for the pain to get there in the first place?” Most of the time we are dealing with people that have been dealing with pain for a long time
(13:00) I have a golfer right now that is 70 now but has been dealing with pain since he was discharged from the military in his early 20’s. So he’s been in pain for almost 50 years
(13:10) So coming and expecting a magic pill or wand to wave over you and your pain is going in an instance, is just not realistic. It really takes time. And if you want to put the time and work in, you will get the results you want
(13:50) Jake will not be the one to fix your pain, he will help guide you but ultimately it is up to you
(16:49) Another PT question, I have had PT before and they took my insurance, why won’t you?
(17:05) I call those PT’s cookie cutter PT’s because they have a one size fits most
(17:47) There is a clinic in Naples that takes insurance that I will recommend when it's a condition that Jake doesn’t think is appropriate for them to come to him and spend cash for services. One example is is ACL recovery
(18:34) Next question, I have tried tons of different diets and exercise programs and none of them worked! Why should I try yours?
(18:58) You don’t need a diet, you need a lifestyle change
(20:25) The exercise program is self explanatory.
(22:00) Do the math, how much are you sitting?
(22:58) Next Question, Do you offer any discounts?
(23:42) Jake’s business mentor told him this, “The vast majority of you are not able to provide a service that people are willing to pay for because you are NOT charging enough money!”
(23:24) If you go to a 5 star restaurant, you are not getting out of there for less than $100 a person vs. chipotle you can get a whole meal for under $15. It is the service that the customer is willing to pay for
(24:53) Why would you want a discount? That means you want me to discount my services to you. Jake can’t discount his prices and still provide top of the line service to you
(25:26) Last question, one of Jake’s favorites, Why doesn’t Jake ever wear shoes?
(26:07) Shoes are the worst thing first world countries came up with according to Jake. They are modern day corsets. There are way to many muscles, tendons and ligaments that don’t have to work when you wear shoes
(26:36) Do Jake a favor and please forward this podcast out to your friends because Jake wants to be as transparent as possible. If you have any questions that you would like answered on the podcast, email your questions to [email protected] or submit a question on social media! Give us your questions and we will be happy to answer them!

(1:35) New podcasts come out every monday, it's a great way to start your week by listening to us
(2:06) We will be discussing Jake’s golfers at Bears Paw Country Club that he just wrapped up doing the 12 week GROUP Golf Performance Sessions
(2:30) It was Jake’s first time doing a group setting. Two groups, one with 5 golfers and the other with 4
(3:00) There is not one golfer who has gone through the program 1 on 1 and NOT gain distance off the tee, we have 100% success rate
(3:29) What is the Golf Performance Program?
(4:29) The amount of weeks is negotiable but it is 24 contact hours
(4:57) Jake took all of that and what he learned by doing 1 on 1 sessions and applied it toward his first golf group session
(5:07) The results for Bears Paw are in and they are GOOD!
(6:16) The max gained distance off the tee was 41 YARDS but his average distance gained was hitting the golf ball 60 yards further off the tee
(8:30) When we can change the overall average it drastically changes your golf game - for the better
(8:39) How was all this measured?
(9:30) More golf statistics from the groups
(10:09) The average gained distance for all 9 golfers was 18 yards off the tee and 13 yards with the 7 iron
(10:55) The group sessions aren’t going to be as beneficial as a one on one setting. But the fact we were able to add an average of 18 yards between 9 people is significant
(12:00) How does someone know if they should go with the individual or group? Depends on how serious you are
(13:00) If you are a competitive golfer that is frustrated the individual is for you but if you are just looking to add some distance to you golf shot then the group session is for you
(13:45) Jenni has 0 interest in playing golf
(14:03) What does Jake do to help the golfers add distance
(14:33) Jake is not golf professional, he is just a biomechanics expert
(15:15) Your golf swing will be different at the end of the program than the beginning of it because your mobility is improving. When you are more mobile you are able to hit the golf ball farther
(15:40) We are working on getting golfers more flexible, stronger specifically during the golf swing
(16:00) One golfer entered with a lot of back pain and told us recently that his back pain is basically non existent while he was playing golf - this is due to getting the correct muscles firing
(17:36) Jake doesn’t want people to think this is an exercise thing. It’s very functional, where you get in the golf stance and just stand there. Now lets work on getting the core and glutes activated and making sure you are balanced.
(18:28) Jake has had multiple come up to him saying they don’t care if the golf ball goes farther, they just want to play a round without their back hurting, and he always says the same thing, “I help you out with your back but you’re gonna have to accept the farther distance
(19:30) We are trying to get into a lot more golf clubs this summer. If anyone listening to this is interested in Jake to come to your club on site and do a golf performance session, you need to reach out to him ASAP because we are currently talking with a handful of other clubs
(20:07) We want to do a program this summer with at least 2 other clubs. We currently have 3 in the process of getting scheduled. So if we had 5 total this summer, we would be pretty full. 5 is the limit
(20:28) How do they do that? Reach out to Jake via email [email protected] or call/text 239-431-0232. Reach out THIS WEEK! We are starting June 1st at the absolute latest!
(21:40) One Jake will be good enough and that will be on the senior golf tour
(22:29) If anyone knows how to get ahold of Tiger, let Jake know, he NEEDS The Berman Method of Golf Performance
(23:01) Please forward this podcast to any golfers over the age of 60 or point them in direction to Jake’s contact information

(1:20) Tomorrow is Stella’s 2nd Birthday!
(3:22) The best part of the birthday for Jake is the cake!
(3:33) Today’s topic is sleep and the importance of it
(4:01) There’s a difference between quality sleep and just laying there for 8 hours with your eyes closed
(4:24) Why is quality of sleep important?
(5:10) Sleep helps our body recover
(5:34) When you are in your deep REM cycle of sleep, that is when your brain is most active in a recovery type of state
(6:00) Importance of the REM cycle in your sleep
(7:18) Most important reason of sleep is so your body can recover
(8:00) We sleep for ⅓ of our life. Don’t you think it should be quality?
(8:36) Main causes of not getting quality sleep
(9:18) Number 1 cause we see in people not getting quality sleep is blood sugar instability
(10:01) Your body doesn’t want you to sleep during low blood sugar
(11:46) Big factor that plays into sleep is controlling blood sugar throughout the day to help with blood sugar stability at night. It’s a metabolic issue
(12:27) Another one that is easy to fix is a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium helps the body relax, recover and helps with bowel movement
(13:43) High cortisol (a stress hormone) levels affect your sleep
(14:32) High cortisol levels can cause interrupted sleep, it doesn’t allow you to get into deep sleep
(15:07) It is just an accepted fact in America that stress levels are high, however it is not okay at all. Back in the cavemen days, stress stimulates the fight or flight response, where if you see a saber tooth tiger over there, you have to decide if it’s time to fight or run. That's the same response being elicited when you’re stressed
(15:41) That is supposed to be a short term response, seconds to minutes then that response should be over. When we have that response affecting our body for a prolonged period of time it wears you down
(16:13) One of the best things that helped Jake out with stress was when one of his mentors told him, “The reason why you’re stressed is because you don’t know what the answer to the problem is.”
(17:33) When Jake feels stress coming on, he thinks to himself, “why am I feeling this?” He’s feeling this because he doesn’t know what the answer is going to be. Once he realizes that, he thinks to himself what’s the worst case scenario and when you say it, 9/10 it is not that bad
(18:28) What else can we do about cortisol levels?
(19:14) L-Theanine, a natural amino acid that most of us have but in times of stress, we don’t release enough of it, is also a supplement, can be very helpful with cortisol levels and lowering stress
(20:33) Importance of sleep position. Jake wasn’t a believer in this at first because he was a tosser and turner
(21:17) When your body is in a completely neutral position it is completely relaxed and your brain won’t wake you up and roll you over
(21:34) Laying on your side
(23:08) First time Jake tried it, he woke up in the same position he fell asleep and was amazed it worked and didn’t wake up once
(23:36) How do you know you are in the right position? What is a neutral position?
(24:18) This is for side sleepers - Use Pillow Wise pillows, we sell them at the office. It helps with the neck and keeps you in the same position the entire night. Also, put a pillow between your legs. We want the pillow to go from your knees down to your ankles.
(25:29) If you are sleeping on your side on not using a pillow between your knees, you have tension in your lower back
(25:45) The 3rd pillow! A nice fluffy one and that's one for you to hug (still if you are sleeping on your side
(26:08) Side sleepers you should be sleeping with 3 pillows, one under your neck, between your knees to ankle and then one thicker one you wrap your arm around
(26:40) I know there are people listening right now going, “hell no!”
(28:08) NO stomach sleeping

(3:10) We want to talk about feet today
(3:50) This going to be controversial but supportive shoes or orthotics are bad for 99.9% of the population
(6:00) Let's go back to the 1800’s. Women used to wear corsets because it was a device that pulled your gut way in, giving you a skinnier look
(7:00) With the corsets on, they had no back pain but when they took them off, they had back pain immediately
(8:09) Reason why that is relevant to feet is because shoes are modern day corsets
(8:26) When you put your foot in a shoe that fits well with the right soles, your feet muscles do NOT have to work anymore
(8:50) Over 100 muscles and tendons in your feet alone. In fact, there are over 100 muscles and tendons in each foot alone
(9:03) 32 muscles in the arch of your feet, 16 in each foot. There’s 4 layers of 4 muscles in the arch of your foot. The role of these muscles is to support your feet, they are there to give you arch support. When you wear a supportive shoe or an orthotic, those 16 muscles don’t have to work anymore. And if you don’t us a muscle it gets WEAKER
(10:15) People with feet pain, notice right away in the morning when they get out of bed. This is more due to plantar fasciitis
(12:45) If you want to get out of supportive shoes it requires work. It requires work to wake those muscles back up in the arch of your feet
(13:13) What some people do (the lazy crowd) is as long as they wear their supportive shoes and orthotics in, they don’t bother them and they don’t care if their feet bother them for a few minutes at the end of the day
(13:52) As you get older, that’s when people start to notice the bunion. You look down at your toes and they are facing in opposite directions and eventually that becomes painful
(14:15) Bunions are not genetic contrary to popular belief
(15:15) Eventually they become so painful that you have to go to a Podiatrist and they tell you that you need bunion surgery, which Jake explains. Let’s just say it is not pleasant at all
(15:40) How shoes can lead us to bunions. The number one cause of bunions is a weak glute medius weakness (one of the smaller glute muscles)
(16:26) Your butt (glutes) can cause problems in your feet and vice versa
(16:57) A lot of knee pain issues can be stemmed back to poor arch support in your feet (17:07) Can these orthotics cause tightness in the muscles of your feet causing the muscles to not work efficiently?
(17:47) Real life example from one of our clients
(18:19) He originally came here for back pain and he had mentioned the foot issues a couple times but we were treading lightly because the Podiatrist told him he needed surgery, so it is a bit difficult to go, “Well, maybe not.”
(18:56) Jake continues with his real life example. The man actually wanted to get back to jogging but your feet are going to be your limiting factor and he agreed
(19:39) Fast forward 6 months, he has ZERO pain is his feet
(20:32) We really specialize in the feet and elbow because those are two pain areas that most just treat the symptoms rather than the problem
(21:14) PLEASE do NOT get your big toe fused
(21:50) People with flat feet
(23:10) When Jake was in Jamaica, he saw that no one was wearing shoes and many had different feet types. He asked them if they have dealt with foot pain and everyone said “no!”
(25:20) When Jake and Jenni first started dating, she had a very long, narrow foot
(26:25) The Arches in Jenni’s feet feel a lot better now that she isn’t using the supportive shoes. Isn’t it crazy that her feet hurt LESS after switching to a LESS supportive shoe
(27:00) Jake does not like orthotics or shoes. Jake is always bear foot
(27:34) Jenni shares a funny story about Jake
(29:09) Take home message: minimize the time your feet are in a shoe

(2:30) Our Friday lunch date & how Jenni convinced Jake to get a third dog
(4:49) After lunch, Jake & Jenni went to pick up the new dog and realized it’s a bit overweight
(7:55) We’re gonna see how long it takes to knock 30 pounds off of her!
(8:26) Jake had a client the other day go, “Wow you guys are expensive!” & Jake’s response was, “hell yeah we are, we’re the best in town!”
(8:49) You aren’t going to go to the Ritz Carlton and say, “You’re expensive”
(9:20) This may sound cocky but it is true, we are the best because we are actually going to listen to YOU and YOUR body, and give YOU exactly what you need
(9:55) We aren’t the best physical therapists in the world or the best golf performance specialists in the world, or the best health & wellness specialists in the world but we are the best at listening to YOU and figuring out what YOU need because you are not like everyone else.
(10:55) Back to the story of the lady saying we’re expensive and Jake explaining that we are the best in town
(11:07) Best thing Jake heard from his business mentor
(12:52) When has the cheapest ever been the best quality? NEVER!
(14:27) It comes down to how much they care about you. What experience are they creating?
(15:57) If the patient doesn’t feel like you understand them, then it is really hard to be successful even if you are the best manual therapist in the world
(16:32) On Jenni’s side, every time they have someone new, they have to connect with their personality & lifestyle, understand their medical history and that no two paths will be the same
(17:00) Jake was reading that AI will remove the need for doctors and lawyers by 2030. Jake disagrees
(17:55) Doctoring in textbooks is black & white but when you have a patient in front of you, you have to treat the patient's problems, NOT the symptom.. Which is why we are the best!(18:28) Most doctors, physical therapists and the like are dictated on what they can do because of the medical insurance companies which is one of the biggest reasons we are out of network.
(18:42) We are out of network so that we can continue to treat the patient, the person and their problems and be able to dig deeper in those problems to find the bottom line
(19:40) When Jake talks to people from around the world, it blows their minds how Americans second guess, question, or don’t even consider spending their own money on preventable health care
(20:40) What does it matter if you have a billion dollars but your health is crap? Look at Steve Jobs for example
(21:56) Same goes for Jenni’s side, if you are on all sorts of medication just to get through the day so you don’t have a heart attack or your blood pressure is super high
(23:07) That's how we come up with that saying, that we are David Vs. Goliath going against the corporate medical system
(23:20) The Pharmacology industry & insurance industry; those two things alone, account for the vast majority of health decisions made in this country on a national level
(25:30) Jake wants to take a look at the big picture
(26:00) Jake’s hypothetical question - Your back is hurting so bad that it causing you not to enjoy life anymore… and you are laying there thinking to yourself, what if there was a magic pill that caused all the pain to go away, how much would you pay for that magic pill that essentially “cures you”?
(28:19) However much you would pay for that magic pill, that’s really how much you should invest to make yourself feel better. Especially if it is beyond deliberating pain. You have to invest in your own health and we invest that back into YOU
(28:54) This comes back to the big picture, what do you want to be doing or get back to doing 15 years from now? You have to invest in your own health

(1:31) Huge News!!! MAJOR LIFE CHANGE!!
(3:07) Passing the torch to our team!
(4:18) Does anyone have any connections to Netflix or any streaming services?
(5:49) HUGE NEWS Revealed!
(6:48) We want to talk about the successes of our clients!
(7:23) We are gonna tell you a few TRUE stories from our clients journeys, we will NOT be using any real names
(7:51) Jenni tells a success story of a newer client
(9:58) In Jenni’s first success story, her client lost 24 pounds in just 6 weeks, with 4% loss in body fat and 4 lbs of muscle mass gained all in a 6 week period
(10:39) His body previously had so much inflammation and when that is the case the body is not going to be focused on losing weight and gaining muscle
(11:09) When there is so much inflammation in the body from food sensitivities, the body goes into survival mode, which prevents you from losing weight
(12:48) Jake tells his first success story, a golfer who didn’t care about gaining distance but improving his back pain
(13:37) His goal was to finish a round of golf without his back being in any pain
(13:50) A crazy goal for him was to be able to play 18 holes back to back days without any pain, that was his dream
(14:12) First thing we focused on was getting the correct muscles firing, getting in and out of a chair correctly, then standing, then walking, then swinging a golf club
(14:47) All of the above was 7 weeks in and at that point he told Jake for the last 3 weeks that he has been able to go a full round a golf and is amazed at how well his back feels afterwards
(15:06) This was done by just getting all the correct muscles firing at the right time
(16:16) In just 7 weeks he has gone from feeling like death after to a round to not even thinking about his back when he’s finished
(16:32) Jenni’s success story #2, about a client that has been with her for over a year now, he originally began coming for personal training
(17:28) His main goals were to lose some of the weight he put on during covid and to get some of his strength back. He wanted his strength back to get back to playing tennis how he was before covid
(18:18) He went through the Wellness Program which is more dietary focused. We did that and the personal training together
(18:30) Within the first 12 weeks of dietary counseling, he lost about 16 lbs. This is from working out with Jenni twice a week and doing the Wellness Program
(18:50) The dietary changes made a huge impact in multiple ways including coordination, balance, agility, lateral quickness. His tennis coach noticed a huge difference
(19:30) He has more strength AND energy now. He told Jenni how different his energy is now throughout the entire day. He had always been a morning person but would crash in the afternoon
(20:01) His one year transformation has been awesome for Jenni to see. For example: He went from hardly being able to do a push up on his knees to being able to bang them out
(20:50) A take home message from this transformation
(21:05) You have to fuel your body correctly, he didn’t realize how much his sugar intake was even though he thought he was eating healthy
(22:55) Jake gives a brief summary of a couple of the clients he is working with at Bears Paw Country Club. He is working with 9 golfers and over the past 12 weeks their transformation has been amazing
(24:00) The positive feedback Jake has heard from them
(25:50) After the age of 60, adding distance off the tee is the best thing you can do for your golf game
(26:00) Jake almost fired someone, now that guy is pounding ball
(26:35) The biggest take home message
(27:18) Work smarter, not harder but working every single day
(28:02) We are just the guides, you guys are the ones doing the hard work, you are the hero

(0:47) We are building off last week’s episode so if you missed last weeks, you better go back and listen
(1:12) Stretching is the most controversial part of Jake’s life. We started off last week saying stretching is not good but it also is not bad
(1:43) We want to have equal flexibility and equal strength
(2:22) Someone that does yoga a ton would be a 10/10 flexibility but 5/10 strength. Where a body builder would be the opposite of that
(3:24) We are looking for a good balance between the two. If we could have 7/10 in both strength and flexibility, most non-traumatic injuries wouldn't happen.
(3:50) An imbalance between strength & flexibility is the number one cause of non-traumatic injuries
(4:41) March Mobility Madness has hopefully been helpful for you. It has been very helpful for Jake and Jenni
(6:18) Whatever gets your attention will get improved. Whatever you are focused on will be improved
(7:58) How can we make sure we are doing the right exercises to get us to that equal point between strength and flexibility
(8:15) Passive stretching which is relaxed stretching, isn’t the most optimal stretching for some of us
(8:45) We are going to decide which stretching is the most effective. Whether that be active, passive, eccentric or concentric
(9:01) We have to find the one that is most effective in this moment
(9:25) You have to change it up (workouts, stretches, cardio, etc)
(10:30) Jenni increases Jake’s speed on the stair master
(11:00) Muscular confusion is very important just like when it comes to our diet, we can’t eat the same everyday
(11:30) Passive stretching and passive exercise
(12:10) It is extremely rare for anybody to need to do 100% passive stretching. The only one Jake will have someone do 100% passive stretching is when we are trying to avoid hip replacement
(13:05) Other than that, no passive stretching. Instead we recommend dynamic stretching & an example of that
(14:11) Reach for your toes for 5-10 seconds (passive stretching) then try to push the back of your knees/thighs to the back of the ground which creates an activate stretching
(15:40) What is an RDL?
(16:48) Eccentric vs. Concentric stretching
(17:45) Going from 90 to 45 degrees in the elbow joint while lifting a dumbbell is a concentric contraction
(18:18) The exact opposite of that, when you go from 90 to 120 degrees in the elbow joint is an eccentric contraction
(18:57) When doing eccentric contractions, you want to go super slow. Your muscles are able to withstand a higher load going eccentric the concentric
(19:48) The point of all this and why it matters
(20:22) Eccentric exercises are great if you are looking to gain strength
(21:00) Our goal is to have our workout give us an equal amount of strength and flexibility
(21:15) Pilates, how it originated, and is it a good option?
(22:44) Doing pilates a couple of times a week could be a good way to do active stretching with strengthening
(23:10) You want to switch things up with your workouts. You don’t want to get into a routine where you are only doing pilates or only doing strength training
(23:47) 3 months from now, lets see if we are still doing the same thing as we were then
(24:40) Working out is just like a meal plan, you want to be changing things up
(25:40) Stretching is not good, or bad. Our recommendation is that we are doing active stretching with eccentric exercises through your workout routine. We want be as strong as we are flexible
