October 11, 2019Episode 225: EssentialismLife can be overwhelming. There is so much out there that we can spend our time on and to which we can give our attention. But what should we do? What truly merits our attention? And what are the most important things in life anyway? In this episode, I try to answer these questions through the lens of a book I recently read titled Essentialism by Greg McKeown. I think that the approach and line of thinking here is very useful and practical, so I decided to dedicate an entire episode (and blog post - mattbest.net/theplatform/essentialism) to it. I hope that you enjoy this way of thinking and find it to be as valuable as I did. And as always, Much Love ❤️....more7minPlay
October 09, 2019Episode 224: LessWe always want more. But why? Does this help us? Or should we be seeking less? And would pursuing less be less overwhelming and more fulfilling for us? I tackle these questions in an article on my website (mattbest.net/theplatform/less), which I read here in this episode. I hope you enjoy my take on the topic. It can be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I believe that it has merit. Give it a shot 😉. Much Love ❤️....more7minPlay
October 07, 2019Episode 223: Some Essential QuestionsHello. It’s me. I’m here with some questions to help start your week and to think about the things that are truly essential. I recently read a book called Essentialism by Greg McKeown, and I really resonated with his approach and the sentiment of his work. Throughout the book, he brings up a number of questions that get at this theme of focusing on what is essential. Hopefully these questions help you to find what is essential as much as they did for me. Much Love ❤️....more6minPlay
October 05, 2019Episode 222: 22 Questions in 22:22Today’s podcast is a special one. To celebrate 222 episodes, I went through 22 questions I’ve written on my personal website in 22 minutes and 22 seconds. You can see the questions on the Food for Thought / Questions and Quotes for Life page (which you can find at mattbest.net/thoughts). I REALLY enjoyed this, and I strongly encourage you to go onto the page and answer these questions yourself. I think it could be quite an eye-opening exercise. As always, thank you so much for your attention and support. It means the world to me. Much Love ❤️....more23minPlay
October 03, 2019Episode 221: Bill GatesToday’s podcast is dedicated to Bill Gates. I recently watched the new Netflix documentary about his life, his work, and how his mind works. I was completely blown away. Tune into this episode to find out why I think we should all greatly admire and appreciate Bill for the person he is and the things he has done to set this world up for a better future. Much Love ❤️....more14minPlay
October 01, 2019Episode 220: The Value of CollaborationThis episode focused on two key topics. The first, which is a prerequisite to the second, addressed the inherent fears that we often have about losing credit for our ideas and having others steal our ideas. This is a fear that I used to have, and I break down why it’s disadvantageous to think in this way in the first part of this episode. Second, I discussed the importance and value of collaboration, and why we should openly share our ideas with others. I hope you take some valuable lessons from this. It was a really meaningful episode for me. As always, Much Love! ❤️...more10minPlay
September 29, 2019Episode 219: My Prerequisites for Pursuing TruthToday’s episode is a bit different. Instead of hanging out in the clouds and being abstract (which I have a tendency to do), I broke down specific rules / prerequisites which I have developed for reaching better truths. To be honest, this was a fun episode to record for me, yet it was one which I wasn’t sure about recording because of the fragility and nuanced-nature of the topic. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy it! As I mention in the podcast, it’s a topic which I think is extremely important for all of us both now and in the future. Much Love ❤️. September 27, 2019Episode 218: GoalsHow should we think about our goals? What are the best ways to set goals? These are the two principal questions I tackle in this episode, along with sprinkling in some context around how my goal setting practices have evolved over time. This was a really fun episode for me, as I think that the material here is SO practical and useful. I hope you get as much out of it as I did. And seriously, email me at [email protected] with your feedback. I want to hear from you! Much Love ❤️....more12minPlay
September 25, 2019Episode 217: Transparency and InsecurityToday’s podcast is a reading of an article titled “Transparency and Insecurity” on my blog - mattbest.net/theplatform. It’s a tale of younger me, who struggled so much with being open, honest, and secure if himself. Fortunately, I found a way out of those struggles, and I discuss the critical realizations that got me out in this episode. As always, thanks for all of the attention and support. Much Love ❤️....more8minPlay
September 23, 2019Episode 216: KindnessLetting anger out feels good in the moment. I get it. We feel like we’re releasing all of our pain and frustration when we do so, and who knows, maybe it benefits us in some way. But think about how the other person feels when this anger and frustration falls upon them. Do they like getting yelled at? Would they enjoy the intense ridicule you place on them? Is this way of communicating really the best way? In this episode, I argue for using kindness instead. It’s definitely harder to do, but the benefits are significant, both for you and for the person you’re trying to convince / help. I appreciate your attention to this episode. It’s something which we all need to be thinking about and acting on. Thank you for taking the time to tune in. It means so much to me. And as always, Much Love ❤️....more7minPlay
