When I first started learning to read Tarot, I kept trying to memorise the meanings of individual cards. 

Maybe you’re trying to do that now, too. 

I did everything I could think of to get the meanings to stick in my head. I tried writing out meanings. I tried flash cards. I tried ‘quizzing’ myself when I looked at a card, and then looking at my meanings book to see if I got it right. 

No matter what I tried, I just couldn’t remember all the card meanings. 

I felt discouraged and I felt like a failure. 

Until one day, I heard a little voice in my head say, “Hey Brigit, let’s try something different.” 

I was so frustrated, I was willing to try just about anything! 

So I slowly started to create my own way of relating to and understanding the cards. I experimented with trusting my ‘still, small voice’ within as a guide. But most of all, I let go of trying to memorise the cards, and focused on finding techniques that freed me to interpret them, using my unique inner wisdom. 

Wow – did things change! My readings were not only accurate and intuitive, but my clients kept coming back for more.

  Most people go about learning Tarot the wrong way.   They think the best way to learn Tarot is to memorise the card meanings.   They buy as hundreds of dollars' worth of Tarot books and spend hours upon hours on the internet looking up the card meanings, with the hope that they might just be able to cram in as many of those 78 Tarot card meanings as possible.   But they're going about it in the wrong way.   Why?   Well, number 1, it's boring. I don't know about you but I'd rather leave memorising, rote learning and cramming to my school days – not to my passion hobby.   Number 2, it doesn't work. You spend weeks, months and even years, trying to commit the meanings of the cards to memory, only to sit down to a Tarot reading and completely forget what the cards actually mean. Trying to cram that much information in your head is nearly impossible – unless you've got a super memory. But even that doesn't really work because ...   Number 3, is shuts down your intuition. When you're memorising and later recalling the cards' meanings, you're actually turning off your intuition – the one thing you DON'T want to do! You see, when you're memorising or recalling information, you're using your conscious mind and your critical thinking. You're having to get your brain to work overdrive to remember what the 78 cards mean and then you're also make micro-judgements about whether you've got the card meaning right or not. All your energy is going towards your critical thinking and away from your intuitive sensing. And so your intuition is ignored and even shut down from this process. So even if you do have a super memory and can recall the meanings, you've completely bypassed your intuition. See what I mean?   So if you've ever tried to memorise the Tarot card meanings in the hope you'll become a better Tarot reader, you may have found yourself feeling frustrated and disappointed.   You're annoyed with yourself because you struggle to commit 78 cards to memory (and that's not even counting 78 more card meanings if you read with reversals).   You're annoyed with your readings because they feel robotic and lack that beautiful intuitive energy you've been craving.   And your clients are annoyed with you because they're not getting clear and accurate answers that are customised just for them.   It's a no-win situation.   The key is to stop memorising and start reading intuitively.
