What truly motivates us are our deeper level values and beliefs. When one is motivated by staying away from a discomfort, once the discomfort is off they tend to relax, whereas those who are motivated towards a certain goal tend to have another goal once the previous one is accomplished. Sometimes our beliefs and values tend to change depending on situations. You can't stay in a place where your values are violated, where values are misaligned there's definitely going to be a problem. Aligning values moves from forming, to storming, to norming, to performing. It's important to listen deeply to understand people's core values.

In the process of setting goals you need to have the GRIT of taking the action and be willing to receive negative or no response at all. Sometimes when we set goals we tend to be attached on how the goal needs to happen. The process:

- Have the goal to be very clear[The conscious mind is the goal setter and the unconscious mind is the goal getter] - S.M.A.R.T goal

- State your goal in the now

- Visualize and feel how it would feel like it has already happened

- Drop the goal in a calendar in the specific date in the future and allow it to go.

When we become aware of something we don't know, we become uncomfortable, but we ought to see this as an opportunity to learn. Always be willing to evaluate and have a beginner's mind because there's always something to learn.

In This week’s Mind ReMapping Moment, we talk about Re-examining our thought habits for flaws. When you find that there is resistance letting go of a negative thought habit you should ask yourself what you are benefiting from holding on to the resistance. 

Deconstructing the negative belief:

- Breakdown the components of why you have the belief in the first place.

- You can disapprove the theory of the negative belief by finding a time when you were able to do almost a similar thing to that particular belief or situation. 

- How were you feeling when you did, that which you think you can't do.

- Who do you know that has that skill? Who could you learn from that skill?

Always question your life to see how you can create infinite possibilities.

[09:00] Communication as a learning tool

The only way people are gonna learn is if they're communicating since there's only so much training you can do before you have to get out there and do practical application. People will mess up and make mistakes but that's part of learning. Living is learning and learning is making mistakes. And the wonderful thing about messing up is that you can clean it up. But you can't ever learn if you're not willing to stick your neck out there.

[16:10] Onboarding Pieces

It's enough to come into a new leadership position and to have to onboard to all of that the organization is accustomed to and learning all of the systems and the dynamics of the organization without having to deal with the additional strain or having to think about how you are gonna be received. This decreases the risk of the new leader burning out and leaving.

Conclusion

Overall, it’s important for the whole organization to give support to the new talent for a successful onboarding. It’s not enough to identify and hire diverse talent, organizations need to be committed to support and have coaching programs that will help retain the new talents as well.
