  • TBF 146 A Serious Conversation about Small Talk
Robert's in the hot seat today for sorry not sorry and probably regrets suggesting the segment altogether now.
We then have a conversation about community and the need and means by which we can build it in the church. Looked like each furnace member had a slightly different take on how to do so, but was a fun conversation in the end.
    For our hookups
Robert suggested checking out a book he is reading called Red Moon Rising which is an account of one of the guys who undertook the challenge of praying every hour on the hour for a whole year!
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Moon-Rising-Generation-Chronicles/dp/143470890X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549235194&sr=8-1&keywords=red+moon+rising
Peter had a hookup for all the Android users which is a minimal looking clean and simple task management app that places a customizable widget on your screen and makes it easy to list your tasks by category
    Check it out here
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stuff.todo&hl=en
Mo had another philosophical hookup, having shot photos on film and finding himself going back to basics, he suggested swapping something digital for something analog especially for the creatives, he cites the benefits of having to go back to the o first principles and how it enhances one's skills when they go back to the advanced tools the digital age has given us.
We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing.

  • TBF 145 Apologies And Abortions
Today marked the return of the completed Furnace and we decided to add a new apologetics segment to the mixed called Sorry, Not Sorry. The Furnace then discussed the disturbing new abortion laws in New York and what sacrifice looks like.
    For our Hookups,
Peter shouted out the track Testify by Christian rapper J. Monty - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMe3eliTFcA&feature=youtu.be
Moses shouted out pineapple juice for a better tasting wife.
Robert shouted out the YouTube CineCom.net who teach you how to recreate effects from movies and music videos - https://www.youtube.com/user/YapperDesign

  • TBF 144 Leadership and Performance
Mo and Peter both declined to perform at an event Robert had mentioned before on the podcast, Jawdance.
The main reason for both guys was the fact that their poetry was mostly too "churchy" for a secular audience.
Robert of course wanted to address this some more, so we started out with the question is there such a thing as poetry that is too churchy?
We talk about performance and evangelism and all things most people these days would want to find offensive.
We then went on to talk about Leadership and measured how good we would be as leaders based on five principles, Wisdom, Courage, Self Awareness, Discipline, and Gratitude. The results are pretty much as expected but the more important question here is how good a leader are you with regards to these pillars.
A big shout out to Simi as well who filled in for Mo on today's episode!!
    For our Hookups,
Peter announced that the long awaited first episode of the last season of Nancy meets is now live. This is shaping up to be the best season of Nancy meets yet and thus do check it out here.

Robert shouted out a book by Elizabeth Elliot called Passion and Purity describing Using her own life as an example, Elisabeth Elliot guides singles of both genders and of any age on how to put their love lives under the authority of Jesus Christ.
    Check it out here

Simi suggested checking out the second season of the marvel show the Punisher on Netflix which is one of the last series standing from Marvel on Netflix.

  • TBF 143 Surviving the culture
Surviving R.Kelly is quite possibly one of the most significant documentaries to hit the masses in recent times.
The topic of abuse, and predatory culture, and the attitudes that make such behaviour thrive has never been more relevant than it is now, and the awkward, difficult and uncomfortable conversations that need to be had are at least beginning to become more commonplace in our places of work and leisure.
In today's conversation we of course also have a look at what the state of society is, how it got this way and maybe how we can steer it right. and just as i mentioned before , it wasn't an easy conversation to have
Luckily we were graced with the presence of Jems who brought a much needed feminine opinion to the table, unluckily we didn't have Bobby A but he most certainly was with us in spirit!
Despite the Gloom and doom of the conversation we stayed true to bringing you guys a couple of hookups
Peter suggested checking out the Daily Audio Bible Chronological, it's a podcast created by the same guys who made the Daily Audion bible podcast he recommended last year.
    Check it out here
    https://player.dailyaudiobible.com/chronological
Jemz hooked us up with A christian meditation app that provides guided meditation with biblical stories.
It's definitely one I'll be checking out myself
    Have a go here
    https://abide.co/
Lastly Mo suggested a journaling bible from Crossways, they've got a bunch of different bibles for you to check out but the one Mo suggested is a single gospel, Mark, and it's laid out such that one page is the word the next is just lined for your journaling .
    Check out their bibles here

  • TBF 142 Looking back, and Looking ahead
If ever one should look back, let him / her do so to learn.
If ever one should look forward, let him / her do so to dream.
However, whatever one is to do let them not waste the moment they have right now!
    Happy new year every one!
It's our sincere hope that you all have started the year right, and even if you haven't we hope you move on from this moment right! Whatever the case keep moving.
In our first episode of the year, we reflect on the year past, interestingly enough we made some detours which in my opinion reflect the same sort of turns the main discussion took last year!
We also have a look at the future and what we're thinking for the year ahead
For our hookups we look at the most beneficial hookups we could bring from the last year.
Bobby A said the best app to happen to him last year was the Moneybox savings app which has helped him make some significant savings to date
Peter mentioned a customisation app for android phones called Nova Launcher for anyone who wants to customise the layout of their phones.
And lastly Mo suggested a guided meditation app called Headspace for everyone's mental health this year
We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing.

    That's a confusing sentence for a reason !!
It was a fun conversation and a fun time, and in hopes of bring you guys some more fun for after you're done with this episode we also bring you good tidings and hookups!
Peter's gift for all the nice folk out there is an app called Sectograph which allows you to put your daily calendar / schedule on a clock face and display this as a widget on your android phone.
It's a great app for anyone who uses their calendar to create very detailed plans for their day!

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=prox.lab.calclock
Mo following in the same train of thought suggested use of Google Tasks which is a very useful app to create list, and sub-lists and sub sub lists to help you get stuff done!

And if one of the things your trying to get done is read more then Bobby has a suggestion for you!
One of his favourite authors, Haruki Murakami's "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His years of pilgrimage" tells the tale of a friend's quest to find out why all his friends suddenly stopped engaging with him.

  • TBF 139 The Rise of the Politically Correct, Hypersensitive society and The Woman's voice
It's a full furnace once more, and today Bobby has us discussing an issue he's had on his mind for a while now.
The issue was more of an observation, and the observation was more of a suggestion that maybe the rise of the PC culture we find ourselves in now could have something to possibly do with the rise of the voice of the oppressed, specifically women, in today's society.
Definitely a conversation we all found thoroughly interesting and we had quite some fun talking about it.
Speaking about fun we also have some fun hookups for you this week.
Peter Suggested checking out a podcast called Villains. As the name not so subtly suggests this is a deep dive into the most notable villains in movies and it always proves to be a fun listen
    Check it out here
    https://www.theringer.com/2018/11/8/18073550/welcome-to-villains
Mo suggested a classic album from Humble Beast, Sho Baraka, called the Narrative. Sho's counter cultural content is always challenging and informative and marries perfectly with the topics we talked about today.
    Give it a listen here
    https://g.co/kgs/shKrqa
And future 5K world record holder Bobby A suggested checking out the app that's going to get him there Couch to 5K
It's a great app that aims to getting you running a 5K in just nine weeks
