The Blacksmith's Furnace

The surest most impenetrable barrier to the truth, is presumption that you already have it!

Dr C Missler

In today's episode Peter has some questions and after a failed attempt to catch Mo slipping the conversation centred on two main topics,

Which is more important, the ability to articulate good doctrine or the display of fruits that would be birthed from having good doctrine? and Is it worth challenging bad doctrine regardless of the risk of shaking the faith of an individual?

In the absence of Rob it was a good conversation reflecting on our own approach to finding the balance between good doctrine and good works.

We still had a few hookups for the masses of course.

Mo Suggested another anime from Netflix, based on the Ghost in the Shell manga, Checkout Ghost in the Shell: ARISE

www.netflix.com/title/80002073?source=android

personal and honest content is exceedingly dark and aggressive to the point of making Peter call him "Eminem if he was christian"

Check him out here

Lastly a special shout out to friend of the podcast and Wife of Mo, Jemilea Jemz Wisdom-Baako who has recently won a spot on a poetry residential and has started a GoFund me account to help see her fly out to america and gain some incredible gems from some this amazing opportunity. There's no obligation of course but with the work she does for the community and with Writerz and Scribez I think it's a worthy cause to invest in.

Whilst Peter was off doing who knows what, Moses and Robert discussed whether Remembrance Day is outdated, whether the world will ever see another Holy War and how to reconcile God being loving in a world filled with so much hurt and pain.

Moses' hook up is a call to start decluttering all aspects of one's life instead of waiting until the New Year.

Robert's hookup is Stormzy new book (and the first from his publishing company #Merky Books), Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far. A memoir from the #Merky Team on how they came to become involved with the beast that is Big Mike - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rise-Up-Merky-Story-Far/dp/1529118514/

Over a year after his wife's passing, former Man united player and current sports pundit, Rio Ferdinand got together with his now wife, then new girlfriend.

Bobby A brings this to the furnace and we ponder when's too soon to move on from a partner.

This naturally extends into a conversation about the idea of "the one" and whether we believe this concept or if it is indeed biblical

Of course we've got you covered with some hookups for the week

Peter Suggested checking out podcast turned TV Series Homecoming on Amazon prime, the psychological thriller made waves as a podcast and splashed enough water to be made into a TV series Check it out here

For the most part, ask anyone what the one thing they would change in their past is and their answer would be, nothing, everything that's happened thus far has led to who they are now and their happy with that.

But Bobby A was having none of that today so we really do try to delve into things that we would actually change if we were given the ability to do so.

Bobby also had a couple of episodes of not doing what God had told him to do and seeing God do it through someone else so he also brought that up with hopes we'd help him feel better about it.

Spoiler alert, we don't.

What you can feel better about however, are some hookups.

Peter suggested checking out a fun youtube channel called How Ridiculous, it's a trio of Australians literally doing basketball and dart trickshots and dropping interesting things on other interesting things

When a popular guy in a Hi-Vis jacket gets mistaken for a deer and shot and killed in the French alpines, it's fits the situation to call it karma when it comes out that he was secretly a child molester in his past.

But is Karma enough to explain this and does Karma affect us in similar fashion as Christians?

That' where we set off from in today's episode of the Furnace. We were joined by the lovely Angela in the absence of Mo who was himself away in France of all places.

Angela didn't come empty handed and brought a recommendation to check out Tori Kelly's new album Hiding place

Give it a listen here

With our personal preferences, likes and dislikes, we find we all have a unique voice that we tend to resonate with.

Might be that one preacher who's style you like, or the speaker who you always seem to understand. We all and each, tend to be in someone's audience and in today's episode we discuss why we listen to those we do.

Of course Kanye's antics made it into our conversation and we talk about why his voice is so powerful and why his actions are so damaging.

Lastly we touch on how we try to ensure that our voice is worth listening to and how we vet what we say.

As always we've got some hookups for you.

Peter suggested checking out a monthly podcast called Everything is alive. It's an interview podcast but all the interviewees are inanitmate objects.

It's definitely a fun use of personification and an easy listen.

After almost a month of never having a full furnace, the whole crew is back together on this cringe worthy episode.

Rob acquired a card version of a game that has a bunch of questions and we take turns asking each other. The questions are very personal or very funny, most often both but it turned out to be a good reminder of our friendship and camaraderie and we hope after listening you have these sorts of conversations with those around you too.

We've got four hookups for you this week, as we were joined by the lovely Jemz; She recommended checking out LipFest which will be Croydon's first spoken word festival over the 27 - 28th of October.

Denzel famously said; "if you don't watch the news, you'll be uninformed, if you do watch the news you'll be misinformed, so what do you do?"

Well today's episode was in part an attempt to address this question.

In the post modern, post truth society we find ourselves in, how do we navigate the plethora of stories, and the intentions behind them, thrown our way on every page of every platform we engage with.

We also talk about the "filter bubble" and how by virtue of design almost every social media platform works actively to show users what they would want to see, in attempt to keep their eyes on the platform and consequentially money flowing into facebook's, twitter's and instagram's pockets

A clear sign of how Robert's absence literally results in an increase in useful information on the episode we have four hookups for you guys today.

Peter shouted out Andy Mineo's new EP "The sword Pt 2", an eclectic and content packed hip hop ep by one of the better MC's around today.

Check it out here

Watch her go back to back , 16 for 16, with another upcoming rapper here

Check it out here

https://open.spotify.com/album/56Xgyg9JHIvevOtAhovgef

and lastly Mo also suggested checking out an anime series on netflix called Sinbad, it's magic, and action and pirates so have fun
