The Blacksmith's Furnace episodes

  • TBF 126 It's not by force to talk!
Welcome to another episode of the Furnace. Today was an especially fun one for two main reasons.
The first was beacaseu there was no Robert, that's self explanatory, but more importantly it was because we were joined today by an amazing artist and one of our very first listeners, The amazing Inktrovert!
She's been mentioned so many times on the podcast is has been one of the guys really encouraging us with engagement and feedback on soundcloud so when we found out she was local we absolutely had to have her down, and she was graceful enough to oblige.
The first part of today's episode centred around a conversation I was having with a friend about Politics and Christianity and whether in an increasing secular and Areligious society if there is any space for a Christian in such a field of endeavour.
The second half switched gears and focus to social media and it's relevance and effect on our lives and the lives of the next generation whose relationship with social media is a lot more all encompassing than ours.
Of course we've got some hookups for you guys as well
Mo suggested checking out a movie by Uncle Spike Lee, Black KKK Klansman which is, ridiculous as it sounds, is actually based on a true story.
    Check it out here
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7349662/
Peter suggested checking out the Audiobook Gay Girl Good God narrated by the writer, Jackie Hill Perry
    Check it out on Audible

And the lovely Inktrovert also suggested a Netflix series called Fargo which was inspired by the movie of the same name and tells compelling true crimes stories from different periods of time!

  • TBF 125 The KamiKaze Special
It is no wonder that three poets would love anyone who demonstrates incredible skills with a pen. so there's no surprise when all the members of the furnace had strong opinions on Eminem's latest album.
Peter however, probably the holiest on the furnace, felt a way about listening to a non christian album and very much enjoying it so in today's episode we talk about the secular sacred divide and the extent to which we are allowed to enjoy art that isn't glorifying of God.
    For our Hookups
Mo suggested investing in PlayStation plus as a cost effective way to get some good games every month for your enjoyment
Check out what's available this month here
    https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/playstation-plus/this-month-on-ps-plus/

  • TBF 124 The Furnace on African child rearing strategies
Almost every person I know of African descent has the stories of getting disciplined in the most creative and largely painful ways, and today we discuss whether the beds truly justify the means when it comes to disciplining and punishing your children.
We naturally progressed on to how God punishes and disciplines us as His children and what those experiences can be like.
Mo was unable to to attend and thus a very tired and full bellied Bobby A and Peter were left holding down the Fort, which just means it was a much better conversation!
For our hookups today, Bobby A suggested a media player that allows you to listen to voicenotes on WhatsApp without sending the sender confirmation that they're message has been heard. Let's just say we're not surprised he knows of something so dodgy.
Download opusplayer here and start deceiving all your contacts with ease
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.littlepako.opusplayer3
Peter also suggested checking our a podcast created by Nike called Trained. It's a discussion podcast involving some of the greatest minds in sports and sports research talking about the breakthroughs being made in human performance.
It's a great listen for anyone whose into any sort of physical exercise or sport.

We're talking first dates, best dates and whether or not it is wrong to recycle date ideas for new partners.
Bobby A probably just wanted to know some tips on sealing the deal but couldn't come out and ask directly. Well the jokes on him in the end!
As usual we've got a few hookups for the masses:
In line with this week's topic Peter suggested an app called Today Tix which helps you finding great deals on all your favourite shows in theatre.

  • TBF 122 Biblical Freakiness!
Pete's back on the podcast and for whatever reason, Bobby A just wants to talk sex today.
So that's exactly what we do.
From Abstinence to BDSM we talk about all things sex and the christian and hit on some very freaky subjects today while trying to keep all things within the confines of a biblical conversation.
It's a clean conversation so no need for a 18 rating but definintely an interesting look into Sex and the Christian's relationship with the subject.
    For our Hookups:
Bobby A suggested checking out QI which is a show on the BBC where they discuss "Quite Interesting" topics, it's always fun and definitely informative so give it a watch here.
    https://www.youtube.com/user/TheQIElves
If your interested in interplanetary expeditions, Peter suggested a fun little podcast following the participants in a year long simulation of life on mars carried out by Nasa.

  • TBF 121 Sorry, Not Sorry
Today's we were joined by the amazing Simi and the conversation went down two very different paths. Firstly we discussed whether boys (and girls) should be held accountable for their relationship antics when they haven’t been taught any better.
We then discussed whether ‘sorrys’ should be handed out regardless of whether you feel justified or not.
    Hookups
Moses shouted out Voltron Season 7 which is out now on Netflix.
Simi shouted out another Netflix show: Designated Survivor.

  • TBF 120 The Unfriendly Christian
Today's conversation was all about friendships and relationships within and outside of our christian circles.
Should Christians have friends that aren't of the faith, and how important are the friendships that do exist with other believers.
Peter also came out on this episode, as an unfriendly christian and we talk about whether or not he needs deliverance.
we also had the priviledge of being joined by Jemz, Mo's better half on this episode. Shout out to her for just being dope

  • TBF 119 Bobby A doesn't have Idols, He IS ONE! Apparently
Following on from last weeks conversation on weddings and wedding rings for men; Bobby A took this episode to subtly confess and then vehemently deny that he had made his fairy tale wedding an idol.
SO today we talk all things idols, in every sense of the word.
it was a good and honest conversation and one that we pray many more people have, quite simply because creating an idol is a very easy and almost natural thing to do.
    For our Hookups
Mo suggested a book very close to the subject matter of the podcast in Tim Keller's Counterfeit Gods
    Check it out here
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Counterfeit-Gods-Empty-Promises-Money/dp/0340995084

  • TBF 118 What's love got to do with it?
Is marriage an outdated institution in the post modern world?
With the rate of divorce in churches equalling, or in some cases exceeding that of those not in church, we ask about it's relevance in today's world and it's affect on the community as a whole.
Following the last episode, it was a fairly lighter conversation but with two thirds of the furnace married, it was also a very personal one.
    Hookups
Given we talked about wedding rings to begin with, Peter suggested for the guys to look into tungsten carbide rings, they're relatively cheaper and show next to no blemishes because the material is so hard
Bobby A suggest checking out, My Old Dutch aka Pancake house which is a great restaurant that do a variety of dishes all with pancakes incorporated.
    http://www.myolddutch.com/
Mo suggested a phone call screening app called should I answer which pools from web reviews of various numbers and alerts you to if it's like a telemarketer or spam call.

  • TBF 117 The Rock bleeds...
They say relationships are all about compromise and communication, but how much is too much, and are there times when or situations where sacrifices shouldn't be made for our significant others in a relationship?
That's what we started off with after Bobby A's 7 minute introduction which featured the Flash, Batman and a brief exposition on why Wonder Woman is a bad choice of partner for Bruce Wayne.
We also talked about a strange case that Bobby A found online. A girl had given her guy an ultimatum after requesting that he doesn't visist a "sleasy" club with his friends and informing him that if he does she would leave him.
Of course after agreeing to not go, he calls here the morning after informing her that he did go and was raped and beaten up after leaving the club with two new ladies to visit another party.
We discuss who's in the wrong and, spoiler alert! We do not reach a consensus!
We also had the pleasure of being joined by Angela (@angiebabez) and Stephanie (@dee.luxxx) on this episode.
Major shout out to them for coming through.
    Hookups
Bobby A hooked us up today with a Book called the Lover's Dictionary by a guy called David Levithan
It's a book about the story of a couple, told in alphabetical order? Yeah!
    Check it out here
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lovers-Dictionary-David-Levithan/dp/0007377991

    Check it out here
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cosmic-Trilogy-Perelandra-Hideous-Strength/dp/0330313746
Stephanie had been spent her entire week on wimbledon, her words, not mine, so she didn't have a hookup for us unfortunately
Angela suggested checking out a youtube video of a song called Clear the Stage byJimmy Needham
    Have a listen here
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6smGew7dGto
and last and definitely the least, Peter made a public service announcement. IT's prime day tomorrow the 16th of July. And it's always worth a check if your an amazon prime member or if your not the free trial is definitely worth considering to get the legitimately great deals that they do over the 36 hours of prime day.
Of course it's just another ploy by big money companies to get some money off you but hey if there's a deal to benefit from why not
    Check them out at www.amazon.co.uk
