The Blaze with Lizzie and Kat! The Original Beverly Hills 90210 Podcast

This past weekend was a medley of Beverly Hills, 90210 friends and fandom! We were proud to be guests of the "With Brian Austin Green" live show fundraiser for Generosity.org, which included a podcast recording with cast members from the series at Torrance High School (the scene of the original West Beverly Hills High School), and a live performance by Color Me Badd. We also got to attend a VIP dinner and U4EA after-party the night before the show, and a lunch at the Peach Pit pop-up with our squad! Visit https://90210blaze.com/episodes/141-the-with-brian-austin-green-live-show for just some of our favorite photos from throughout the weekend.

Kat's joined this week by guest co-host Kim Hoffman, and #1 fan of "the Dylan show," Stephanie Hamper. Stephanie supports the podcast on Patreon—the subscription being a Valentine's Day gift from her husband; swoon—and identifies as a Cindy. Stay tuned after the outro if you want to hear about toothbrush pyramid schemes from a dental professional. In addition to being passionate about Mel Silver's representation as Beverly Hills, 90210's resident oral surgeon, Stephanie is a mom who wants to spread the word about pediatric stroke. Learn more, and consider making a donation to support the Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association, in honor of Stephanie's daughter Sarah.

Also discussed in this episode, the infamous VMA pairing of Milton Berle and RuPaul.

Kat's joined this week by Pam Myers, whom she and Lizzie first met at a concert featuring performances by Color Me Badd and Kid 'n Play. She previously appeared on The Blaze for the Beverly Hills, 90210 season four episode "The Time Has Come Today," and last week's BH90210 Patreon exclusive recap episode. They're interviewing Joanna Wilson, the world's—or, at least, the internet's—foremost expert on Christmas episodes of television series, whose works on the subject include the "Christmas TV History" podcast and blog, and a number of encyclopedic books.

We're reeling from the rave-turned-lesbian-house-fire, and so are Kelly and Steve. Luckily, we're joined again by Julia Cunningham, morning DJ on SiriusXMU, and soon-to-be-cohost of the new entertainment interview series The Jess Cagle Show. Charitable organizations discussed on this episode: Kids in Need of Defense, RAICES. Listen to Julia's previous episode, season three's "Back in the High Life Again."

Well… it happened! Steve Sanders Management has spent the past two decades working to get a reboot or reunion of Beverly Hills 90210 on the air, and a miniseries starring the original cast playing fictionalized versions of themselves has finally premiered. We live-tweeted the premiere episode of BH90210, and were joined for immediate reactions afterwards by Santina Muha, Kim Hoffman, and Mickey Keating.

Be sure to keep up with our live tweets of the West Coast airings of the rest of the series for the next five weeks, 9pm Pacific Time on Fox! Podcast recaps for the episodes will be available for Patreon supporters at the "Les Wildcats" level and above! And if you want to share your reactions or viewing experiences, please send them to us! Our journey through season five of the original series will resume on Monday with the episode "Injustice for All" providing a continuation from the cliffhanger of the previous episode's lesbian house fire!

Listen to Santina, Kim, and Mickey's previous appearances on the podcast.

Kat is joined this week by Blaze family members Kim Hoffman and Leeni Ramadan to scalp tickets to the Rolling Stones show at the Rose Bowl and start an online flame war. This episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 was originally titled "That Voodoo That You Do," and is not available for streaming on Hulu—so you'll have to watch it on DVD! Listen to Kim and Leeni's previous appearances on the podcast. Discussed in this episode:

Lizzie and Kat are joined by author, artist, activist, and (former) academic Ebony Adams. She hosts the Feminist Frequency Radio podcast, whose motto is, "Be critical of the media you love," and coauthored History vs. Women: The Defiant Lives that They Don't Want You to Know with media critic Anita Sarkeesian. Together we analyze the racially-charged episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 that tackles a controversial, anti-semitic speaker invited to California University, putting the Black Student Union at odds with the Maccabee Center (and Andrea)—with Brandon stuck in the middle.

We are thrilled to discuss this unforgettable episode with Andy Kamenetzky, who originally joined us for the season two episode, "A Competitive Edge." Andy is a sports reporter for ESPNLA 710, and he and his brother Brian together host the Kamenetzky Podcast. So, that makes him the perfect guest to analyze the gameplay in the KEΓ House flag football tournament at California University—just kidding, the trippy journey through Dylan's psyche has always made this Andy's favorite episode of the series. Discussed on this episode:

• The Space Jam website
• "90210 What Becomes A Legend Most?" by David Browne for Entertainment Weekly, September 1994
• The opioid receptor antagonist Naloxone (brand name: Narcan) was approved for opioid abuse treatment in 1971 by the FDA with opioid abuse kits being distributed by many states to medically untrained people beginning in 1996.
