The Penn State football recruiting calendar for the summer is already filling up. Today, we're discussing the Class of 2026 in-depth and where the team stands heading into the spring recruiting calendar next month. Recruiting expert Sean Fitz joins the show to discuss the latest recruiting news. We'll also check in on the progress of the 2026 group compared to past seasons. It's been quiet recently, with very little movement within the class.

The future of Penn State's run-ons unclear

Part of recruiting is assessing the talent that may benefit the team off the field in practice. Penn State has a strong run-on culture within the program that is under threat with the new rules proposed by the NCAA. Those rules stem from the House Settlement and the ramifications of revenue sharing coming to college sports. Fitz spoke with second-year players who aren't on scholarship earlier this month to get an idea of where their mindset is heading into an uncertain time in sports. We'll discuss his article at Blue White Illustrated.

Penn State Class of 2026: The Big Picture 

Today, we'll take the downtime to look at the Class of 2026. Plenty of fans hope that this group can achieve a top five or ten finish in recruiting rankings and push the team over the top in recruiting. While we've discussed that topic several times on the show, today we're discussing how this group fits into the bigger picture. What are the strengths of this cycle? Where does Penn State need to add players this cycle to fill in gaps or enhance strengths in the current roster? While the nature of college football has changed from a long-term view, there are still aspects of team building that play into recruiting. 

Next, we'll look at the committed class as it stands in the cycle. Penn State has nine commits who have verbally joined the program. We'll discuss where that stands in comparison to the rest of the country, previous recruiting classes at this time, and what factors may have led to nine players on board at this point. 

Finally, we'll recap the latest official visit announcements and introduce you to some new names that will check out Penn State this summer.

Penn State Class of 2026 Recruiting Reset | Official Visit Schedule Filling Up

The No. 1 Penn State wrestling team is ready to close out the dual meet portion of its schedule on Friday when it hosts EIWA program American on Friday night at Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions are fresh off clinching a Big Ten regular season title and are gearing up for the postseason. We cover that and much more in this week's BWI wrestling show and pocast.

Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel start this episode with a review of the team's two most recent wins. Last Friday night, Penn State beat Ohio State 27-13 in Columbus to secure its 69th consecutive dual meet victory. Then, it topped Illinois 29-9 on Sunday to set a Big Ten record with 70 straight wins in addition to winning the conference's dual meet crown. Carr and Pickel discuss the top takeaways, including Beau Bartlett beating Jesse Mendez to earn the No. 1 spot at 141 pounds, freshman Luke Lilledahl bouncing back from being pinned Friday night to record a technical fall triumph on Sunday, and the latest injury information.

From there, the show turns its attention to what lies ahead for the Nittany Lions. Sanderson said that the program is dealing with some illness issues, which could impact Friday night's lineup. This year's senior class includes the likes of Bartlett, four-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci, and defending heavyweight champ Greg Kerkvliet, among others.

Penn State news: Seider officially announced at Notre Dame 

Today, we'll start with the news that former Penn State running backs coach JaJuan Seider has officially been announced as the new running backs coach at Notre Dame. We'll discuss the details of Seiders' new situation and recap the transition to new running backs coach Stan Drayton. 

Next, we'll briefly discuss the latest recruiting news from the Nittany Lions. Teams are lining up official visits for the upcoming summer recruiting surge, during which most of Penn State's class will be decided. Check out the site for more information about who plans to show up in Happy Valley during May and June. 

Roster Update released last week 

Penn State provided the first roster udpate for 2025 after the week's BWI Live Show went off the air. Today, we'll review the changes and updates from the previous list of players on campus. We'll mainly focus on the team's freshman class and which players showed up with the measurables to contribute next fall if things go well for each player. 

Rebuilding the Penn State offense 

Kotelnicki dramatically improved the team's explosive play percentage on offense last year and helped the program reach its first Big Ten Championship game since 2016 and a college football playoff run. As always, teams must evolve and change year to year based on the talent turnover from the previous season. 

While much of the core remains the same from 2024, there are places that Penn State can adapt and change the plan for the upcoming season. We're discussing the schemes and ideas the team can implement to help generate even more explosive plays in the passing game.

The Nittany Lions released the spring football schedule for March and April on Monday, and we'll discuss the details of the team's plan for the upcoming football calendar. Of course, part of spring football is spring recruiting visits. While those are still being formed, recruiting isn't stopping anytime soon. Fitz will discuss the latest news and intrigue in his weekly recruiting update on the show. 

Recapping Freshman Class Conversations

Last week, Penn State made its second-year players available to the media for the first time officially under the team's supervision. It was a day after our live show last week, so we're giving Fitz and Bauer the chance to discuss the event and which players they spoke to.

The college football recruiting calendar is always accelerating, meaning things that are happening in June are news in February. Today, on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, we're discussing Penn State's official visit schedule for the upcoming summer. But don't worry, we're also breaking down today's events. Penn State running back coach search 

Of course, the biggest news this week is that Penn State needs to find a new running backs coach after long-time assistant JaJuan Seider left the program for Notre Dame. We'll give you the latest information about the coaching search and what fans need to know right now. 

Snyder also spoke with 2026 running back commit Messiah Mickens to gauge his temperature about sticking with the program after Seider's departure. Will the team be able to hold on to one of the top running backs in the country for the next cycle? We'll discuss that, plus a realistic timeline for the hiring process. 

Wafle conversations 

Owen and Luke Wafle have become central to the team's team-building efforts over the last several months. Owen, the older Waffle, transferred from Michigan to Penn State this offseason to fill in the team's defensive tackle opening this upcoming season. Luke, a four-star defensive end in the Class of 2026, is a top priority for defensive line coach Deion Barnes this year. Snyder spoke to their father and gives listeners the highlights of his conversation on today's show. 

Snyder also put in an RPM prediction for the next 2026 defensive player to join the class. Find out which target he thinks is on the path to becoming a Penn State commit. 

Official Visit Schedule update

February is a dead period in recruiting, and schools are now setting official visit schedules for the summer with top prospects. There's been a flurry of announcements since our last recruiting show, so Fitz and Snyder will discuss the players who have locked in for all-important visits during May and June. We'll also discuss the importance of those announcements and what they signify, even if the dates or plans change in the future.

Penn State wrestling is set for its final double dual weekend of the regular season. What is not clear as of Wednesday, however, is whether or not the Nittany Lions will have all 10 of their starters available for matches at Ohio State on Friday and Illinois on Sunday. The Blue-White Illustrated wrestling show is back to discuss last weekend's two wins, the latest on the Lions' injury situation, and what's on the horizon for head coach Cael Sanderson's team.

Reporter Greg Pickel and host Thomas Frank Carr start this week's episode with a look back at last weekend. Penn State shutout Michigan 39-0 on Friday. Then, it beat Maryland 35-10 on Sunday. What did we learn from the two victories? The duo discusses that as the Lions took their 67th and 68th consecutive dual meets.

From there, the conversation moves on to the injury front. Braeden Davis, the starter at 133 pounds, missed another two matches and has now sat out the team's last three due to injury. Tyler Kasak, meanwhile, had to injury default out of Sunday's bout with Terrapin Ethen Miller. It's not yet clear if either will be available this weekend.

The show closes with a look ahead to a Friday night match with No. 5 Ohio State before traveling to No. 19 Illinois. The top bout in Columbus will feature No. 1 Jesse Mendez vs. No. 3 Beau Bartlett at 141 pounds. Mendez beat the Penn State senior in both last year's national final and also at this season's NWCA All-Star Classic. What can fans expect from Penn State this weekend? The Penn State football team held Winter Media Day yesterday, allowing reporters to sit down with Penn State head coach James Franklin for an update on the latest moves within the program. They officially introduced the 2024 freshman class for the first time during a two-hour interview session with the young players. Reporter Greg Pickel was at the event and joins the show today to discuss what he heard and learned from yesterday. We'll also be discussing the latest in the Penn State running backs coach search and more.

The latest on the Penn State running backs coach search 

Yesterday, Franklin discussed the timeline and criteria for the team's running backs coach search during his roughly 40-minute talking to the media. While we'll get into those details later in the show, we'll start with the latest names that are part of the search. Pickel will discuss what he knows about who is in the candidate pool. He'll also discuss what the freshmen running backs had to say about the situation during their interviews with the media yesterday afternoon. 

Between the Lines 

Next, we'll discuss the coaching search from Franklin's perspective. He discussed what he's looking for in his next leader of the running back room. He once again stressed that the team doesn't have time to wait and needs a coach who can immediately make an impact. 

However, he brought up some other topics within that answer that may or may not have to do with the current coaching search. We'll discuss those thoughts, plus potential changes to spring football during Between the Lines. 

Freshman Media Day 

Finally, we'll discuss the young players we talked to and the main takeaways from those conversations. From Cooper Cousins to Ethan Grunkemyer, we met with the entire freshman class, and we'll discuss what we learned about the personalities on display yesterday. We'll also discuss the information about player development and goals for the coming year.

The Penn State Football team became victim of the College Football Playoff coaching shuffle early on Sunday when running back's coach JaJuan Seider reportedly accepted an offer to coach at Notre Dame. The Lions had just poached their own coach from CFP Champion Ohio State two weeks earlier so the dynamic of late-offseason coaching changes isn't new to the program at this point. Now, the team will need to replace one of the longest-tenured assistants under head coach James Franklin. We'll discuss that, Penn State superstar Saquon Barkley winning a Super Bowl, and more on today's BWI Live Show.

Saquon Barkley wins his first Super Bowl 

We'll start off with Barkley's win in Super Bowl LIX. The former Penn State running back carried the ball 25 times for just 57 yards, but his team dominated the Kansas City Chiefs on the way to a 40-22 blowout victory that featured 16 Chiefs points in the fourth quarter once the game was put away. We'll discuss Barkley's historic season, plus talk about the game. Join us to get in on the conversation! 

Penn State needs to replace a top assistant 

Of course, the main focus of today's show is on the team's loss of Seider to recruiting rival Notre Dame. Seider has been one of the team's top assistants over the last seven years and has brought a steady flow of high-quality running back prospects to the program in recent years. 

What's the sting factor in losing him? What can the team do to replace him quickly, and does this represent an opportunity to change and refresh the room? We'll also discuss the recruiting aspect of that conversation in Fitz's recruiting update.

Tomorrow marks the start of the 2025 season for Penn State football with the February media day. Franklin will speak to the media for the first time since his team's loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl to discuss a variety of topics, including hiring defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, the loss of Seider, and more. We'll also get our first chance to meet the Class of 2024 freshmen, which completed its first year on campus. We'll discuss what we expect from tomorrow and who we intend to talk with during the day of interviews.

NIL Conversation from Pete Nakos

On3 national reporter Pete Nakos surveyed anonymous NIL executives and staffers from several of the major conferences to get a lay of the land for how much teams spent this past season on recruits and in the portal. He also got an idea of what the going rate for certain positions is and where those numbers are heading. Of course, we'll relate these topics and conversations to Penn State football and where it stands in the new NIL environment.

Penn State wrestling is off and running with the February portion of its schedule. The Nittany Lions have their first double dual weekend of the season on the horizon. Michigan battles head coach Cael Sanderson's team at the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday (6 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network) before Maryland invades Rec Hall at 1 p.m. ET on B1G+.

“It’s unusual, as we talked about throughout the year, just the scheduling where we got Friday, Friday, Friday, and now we have a Friday, Sunday,” Sanderson said Monday. “But I think these weekends are really good training for the national tournament conference where you have a multiple-day tournament. So, we look at it all as training. And obviously, Michigan’s one of the top programs in the country. So we’re looking forward to that match, another match in the Jordan Center, and then being able to kind of turn around and wrestle Maryland, who’s wrestling really well. I mean, they’ve done a really good job there, and they’ve been very competitive.”
