The Penn State Nittany Lions football team heads into the final week of spring football on Saturday. That means the team is in the final week of spring football recruiting as well. Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show today to hear which players are joining the team for practice this weekend. Reporters Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder discuss the team's visitors, the importance of the prospects this coming weekend, and more!

Of course, the biggest Penn State football news this week is about the spring transfer portal window. Three additional players entered the portal on Wednesday afternoon. Linebackers Ta'Mere Robinson and Beckham Dee, plus cornerback Jon Mitchell, will no longer be part of the program. Snyder and Fitz will discuss what they know of the situation and describe the impact of the losses.

Upcoming weekend packs a punch 

The upcoming recruiting visitors for Penn State football might be one of the better lists of the spring. The Penn State Football team held open practice on Tuesday evening for the fourth week of spring football. The event was just hours before the spring transfer portal opened and discussions were tense around the topic with head coach James Franklin after practice. Penn State practice Update and Transfer portal primer

The transfer portal is officially open for college football players to enter their names and teams to begin contacting them about joining their squads for the upcoming season. We'll give you the latest on what we know about Penn State's situation and the strain it puts on the program with the potential roster limit rules in the future.

Next, we'll discuss what we saw and heard at practice last night. Reporter Greg Pickel will discuss his conversation with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and get his thoughts about what open practice looked like on Tuesday evening. 

The event featured more competitive portions of practice than normal, which we chronicled last night for members of Blue White Illustrated. 

Between the Lines 

Next, we'll discuss what Franklin had to say when he spoke for roughly ten minutes with reporters after practice. What sort of comments did he have about the transfer portal, and what did he leave unsaid? We'll break it down in our weekly segment "Between the Lines."

Of course, the news from the end of last week, which became official on Monday, surrounds the spring transfer portal. Guard JB Nelson officially put his name in the transfer portal on Monday as part of the spring rush. We'll discuss how his absence affects the battle for the left guard position and how big of a loss he is for the team. 

We'll also discuss how the unregulated spring portal in the lead-up to the House Settlement could change the landscape of college football in its wake. How will Penn State navigate one of the craziest and most ruthless portal markets? 

Fitz's Recruiting Update

It was another good weekend for Penn State recruiting. Four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone committed to the program late on Saturday, bringing the total commits for 2026 up to ten. Falzone is also the second quarterback in the class. How do all of those dynamics work out for the program heading into the Blue-White Game in two weekends? The team was once again inside Holuba Hall for practice on Tuesday night. We'll recap what we saw up close and perosnal on the north sidelines of the building and what aspects of practice stood out in the third week of camp.

Three thoughts from Penn State spring camp's halfway point

Of course, none of this happens in a vacuum and we have now seen enough of camp to draw some conclusions from the events. Greg Pickel joins the show to give his three thoughts at the halfway point of spring practice. What are the most interesting observations that have been evident for all three open practices? We'll each count down the top three things we've noticed. 

Those observations are based partly on what Penn State head coach James Franklin tells reporters after each practice. We'll recap his latest press conference on Between the Lines. Penn State commit and potential five-star receiver Khalil Taylor discussed his decision to join the program with reporter Ryan Snyder earlier this week. While Snyder is off today, we're discussing his conversation with Taylor and relaying some of the highlights from his conversation with the 2027 pass catcher. 

We'll also discuss the team's out of region prospects. Penn State primarily relies on strong recruiting within its geographical footprint but can occasionally snag players from other states. There's a growing list of names that Fitz and Snyder have collected from players interested in the program beyond the borders of Penn State country. How big of a factor can or will they play in this recruiting class? We'll ask Fitz what he can glean at this stage in the recruiting process.

Penn State practice observations

We'll start right off the top of the show by discussing what we saw in the extended view of practice on Tuesday evening. The team went through positional drills, running games, passing games, and teamwork during the roughly 30 minutes of open viewing. Pickel spent time with both the offense and defense and will give his thoughts about the team's progress. 

We'll also dive into the competitive one-on-one periods we saw during camp. Penn State did three separate drills during the open window, including one-on-one passing drills for defensive backs and receivers, blocking drills for those same groups, and running game drills between the offensive and defensive fronts. We'll describe who stood out and who made plays during the nearly live action drills. 

Between the Lines

We'll also have an extended session of Between The Lines, our press conference recap feature where we fill in the gaps of what coaches are saying during media interviews. This week we'll feature both head coach James Franklin and wide receiver's coach Marques Hagans.
