  • heart to heart ¦¦ decoding "grey area" racism PART 1
We need to shift the focus of what's happening around the world to south african issues dealing with race. And because its Youth day, why not hear stories from those who like us and grew up like us? In this 2 part bonus episode, racial topics are unpacked with the aim of educating one another a safe platform, from a place of love. 10 stories are shared where guests recount their first hand experiences with "grey area" racism, they're own opinions on the matters, and how that has influenced their journeys. Part 1 addresses racial socialisation, white privelage and systemic racism. And part 2 focuses on racial micro - aggressions, racial profiling and the controversial Black Lives Matter vs All Lives Matter movement. It is important to mention that this is not be an exhaustive list on different types of racism. More and more of us need to gain essential education on these topics so that we can eradicate this problem together. And if we can learn to do better, then we can be better. • session 6: the emotional intelligence needed to conquer tertiary
In this solo episode I delve deep into emotional intelligence (EI), and how having a high EI can benefit you in a tertiary space. Unlike IQ which is fixed, emotional intelligence is a spectrum that you can shift along depending on your emotions and response to situations. Tertiary can greatly help to build your EI, which can teach you how to approach these obstacles and overcome the challenges of varsity life. In my session I place emphasis on 5 characteristics that can describe emotional intelligence, as coined by American Psychologist Daniel Goleman. These include: self - awareness, self - regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills. I also discuss these elements in detail and how they can help to reach academic success. Finally I discuss a quiz that you can take on mindtools.com to figure out where you lie on the emotional intelligence spectrum. Hope you're able to benefit from this one!
