  • Owning your health. Shelly and Nikhil's story of what it took to save Nikhil's life, when for 2 decades he suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder.

Nikhil Torsekar seemed to have it all: he had a loving wife and three kids, had attended a top university and business school, and had steadily climbed the career ladder at the world’s top corporations. One day it all came crashing down: he lost his job, found himself in a bitter divorce, and had nowhere to live. Further analysis revealed that Nikhil had been suffering from undiagnosed bipolar disorder, oscillating between staggering highs and incapacitating lows for 20 years.

After receiving the diagnosis at the age of 40, he began a journey of introspection and healing, and is now an excellent husband, dedicated parent, and thriving professional. He works in marketing with his wife Shelly and they’ve written and a book and are working with Hollywood producers to modify the memoir for film.

Today, we’ll be speaking with Nikhil about what’s helped him on his road to recovery – medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, and meditation / mindfulness. He has immersed himself in the teaching of many authorities on holistic healing, including Dr. Deepak Chopra.
    -----------
Six years ago, Shelly Sood had a picture-perfect marriage, lived in an upper-class neighborhood, was married to a banking executive, and had 3 beautiful children. She was suddenly yanked from this illusion: her loving husband – who had suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder for decades – suddenly transformed before her eyes, filed for divorce, and became hellbent on her destruction. Her sanity, physical health, faith in humanity, pocketbook, and welfare of her children and husband eroded before her eyes.

Today, she is an author, mother of 3, wife, and an entrepreneur.

Shelly Sood is the co-founder of Untether Your Life, a wellness platform that empowers individuals to reconnect with their inner peace, cultivate mindfulness, and create a life filled with purpose. Her approach is informed by more than 20 years of entrepreneurial and leadership experience in healthcare and other industries.

Shelly’s upcoming book Practicing Mindfulness on the Go offers accessible techniques for staying present in the midst of daily pressures and curveballs. Alongside this, her transformative course Reinvent Your Reality™ provides custom meditations, groundbreaking breathwork practices, and other tools to push clients past their limits to achieve the life they’ve imagined.

  • Coping with the death of a child. Carrie's story of losing her son and the new approach she has navigating life without him.

In a span of twelve days Carrie Schmitt gave birth to someone else's child and lost her own.
Child loss is never an easy conversation. It's often uncomfortable, but we can't just ignore it like it doesn't exist because it does. On this episode I talk with a mom who lost her son only two and a half years ago. Her story is hard, but she is doing the work necessary to help her family, her self, and other people affected by child loss. We talk about what it's like to be a sibling grieving the loss of your sibling and why therapy is so important to help process those feelings. We talk about the importance of self care and what that may or may not look like for you. We also talk about marriage and the how we can help our spouses when they are heart broken after losing a child.

  • The benefits of EFT Tapping. Carrie's story on Prayerful tapping and why she started doing it.

    About Carrie
There are hurting people everywhere.  I met them growing up. I met them in the hospital. I’ve met them in my Tapping practice, in my neighborhood, in my business. . . . everywhere.  I started wondering what our world would feel like if lots of individuals released a little of that shame or stress or anger.  What if many, many individuals released a LOT of those stifling emotions or unhealthy habits? I’d like to live in THAT world with those people and THAT ENERGY!

I decided to show up and deliver what is uniquely mine to give. I am surrounding myself with people who have that same intention—to give our own best. Each year we can give better if we heal those bitter places, make a commitment to harmony, and let go of scarcity thinking.  Joy is not a zero-sums game where mine takes away from yours. I hope our Joy will be contagious!

This is why I founded Discover & Serve.
