James Russell made headlines recently for staging a sit-in at Niagara-on-the-Lake. He chained himself to a plaque at a Black cemetery, vowing not to leave until the town agreed to unearth and restore the Negro Burial Ground’s long-buried headstones.    And while the story has made headlines, hearing James describe the history of what happened here is deeply moving. Headstones were placed at the site for those who died, but 30 years ago those headstones mysteriously disappeared - covered over and buried so the town could “cut the grass”.   Russell wants more than a simple memorial on site. He feels people should deserve to know the names of people buried there.    He’s speaking up and organizing a march from the burial grounds and through the town of Niagara on-the-Lake on Father’s Day June 18, 2023.   Guest: James Russell
