  • #042 - Patrick Wiggins - Super Novae and Stars in our Sky

Welcome back on the bus! This episode we have astronomer and all around adrenaline junky, Patrick Wiggins. Why adrenaline junkie? Because when we first met him, he was jumping out of an airplane. By day, jumping out of airplanes is what Patrick does, but by night, when the sun goes down, he heads over to the Stansbury Park Observatory Complex; where he has made some notable discoveries over the past few years: three supernovae and several planets outside of our own galaxy.

Patrick has spent thousands of hours staring up into the sky and he doesn't just do it with any ordinary telescope. Patrick has access to the largest amateur optical telescope in the world. Check out pictures of this beauty here.

In this episode, we go over Patrick's process for discovering phenomena in the sky. We also take a look at the difference between supernovae stars and our own star, asteroidal impacts, mass extinctions, the fate of our solar system as well as Patrick's take on the Flat Earth conspiracy.

Wiggins has discovered a whole host of astronomical events in space, including an asteroid in 2008, which the International Astronomical Union named Univofutah, at Wiggins’ request, to honor the University of Utah. Wiggins’ work has earned him many accolades, including the prestigious Distinguished Public Service Medal, NASA’s highest civilian honor. You can meet Wiggins and the rest of the Phun with Physics scientists during free days at the Natural History Museum of Utah.

  • #033 — DJ Billy Kenny & Max Charnas
DJ Billy Kenny @BillyKennyMusic is a British DJ, Producer, and head of A&R for electronic music label This Aint Bristol.  Max Charnas @charnizard is a writer and blogger for the same label - a label known for its confounding ability to make you feel like a grasshopper at a grasshopper party.  We were lucky enough to have Billy join the bus for an EDC exclusive conversation. Why? Because Billy is the closing act on the Cosmic Meadow stage at music festival @EDC_LasVegas (Electric Daisy Carnival); analogous to the Super Bowl of electronic music festivals. Spoiler Alert: he plays an exclusive - the intro of his EDC set.  From stories of their youth and acid experiences to music influences and song discovery, Billy and Max give a real look into their lives during this riveting conversation.  To hear DJ Billy Kenny's music and read Max's visually entrancing track descriptions - Go to the This Aint Bristol Souncloud page  On the Bus Podcast has a major goal to bring you the raw and real from the true greats operating outside of the status quo. • #035 — Megan Nager

Buckle up bus riders because the lane lines and guard rails couldn't even keep the bus in one lane!

Megan Nager, @meganager, moved to Los Angeles in 2012, after she graduated with a BA and honors in English, Spanish and General Business from Washington University in St. Louis.

All of us have bared witness to what anyone and everyone having a camera looks like. Not only does it seem like everything can be recorded but the recordings that our captured are capturing personal content that has not normally been shared of captured before.

Megan decided to attempt the traditional route of entering the entertainment industry and moved to LA after graduation. Megan attended The American Academy of Dramatic Art's acting conservatory program. During her year at AADA, Megan began performing stand-up comedy at various comedy clubs throughout LA including The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory and the Hollywood Improv.

Megan continues to perform Stand-Up comedy throughout Los Angeles. She also has a growing Instagram and Youtube following, where she uses the platforms to parody Los Angeles's “most obnoxious stereotypes” through sketch comedy.

On the show, we get deep into his giving history, with stories of picking up hitchhikers and helping kids across the country.
