In this episode – Brandon and Daniel dive deep into the realms of inflammation and the human body. As biohackers and social incubators, we are in a constant flux of self-improvement through physical awareness and experimentation, and of course, we always want to help others improve their nutrition.

This episode is a little different and here’s why; Daniel Blum’s degree is Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida and Brandon Reese is a Nutritionist and ex-Professional basketball player from Syracuse. With our backgrounds, and since many topics on the show are related to nutrition, we decided to create a mini-series with a discourse on relevant nutritional topics between ourselves. 

Today’s episode includes an introduction into the definition of inflammation as well as a philosophical take. There’s a ton of goodies in this show with some of our best sources of inflammation and tips on how to experiment with your own body.

Darryll Fish aka DFish (@darryllfish) is a 31-year-old professional poker player known not only for his skills at the tables but his shrewd social awareness and community building. He spends his time traveling the world playing both tournaments and cash games.

Some of his career highlights include a WSOP Circuit victory in Palm Beach Florida, 2nd place at WPT Montreal, and 3rdplace in the 2013 WSOP $5,000 bracelet event. He is sponsored by Seminole Hard Rock and has recently found himself doing commentary for live stream play-by-play.

Michael McGowan a.k.a. Storm. is a young entrepreneur and classically trained chef in the culinary capital of New York City.

Storm graduated top of his class at one of the top culinary schools in New York. He has worked at famed Michelin star restaurants, is a co-founder of @gophercase, and has his own baking company with his fiance Bake Shop 314. All by the ripe age of 27 years old.

This is a very special episode to us as we tried something a little bit different to share with you guys.

This week we share our first conversation with Bryan Shay, @livehighbry. Bryan is one of the creators of Live High; a platform for storytellers to share their content in order to help awaken and inspire humanity. Live High is about doing what you love, living from your heart, following your passion, and living in the moment. This is a wonderful creed to live by that we echo with the On the Bus ideology.

Bryan’s modest and quiescent disposition are in part credited to his genuine interest in what those around him have to say. He is curious, caring, and passionate about people. And he takes the word sharing to another level. Bryan studied and majored in filmmaking at Ithaca College. His skills have led him to travel different parts of the world to learn from others.

Like many other millennials, he is still on the never ending journey to discovering and improving the self. He is constantly taking on new challenges to find a path of less resistance and have more faith in the moment. 

His most recent challenge was monumental (and downright inspiring) to many. He decided to bike ride across the country, 3600 miles from ocean to ocean, with his younger brother; as a way to catch up and bond as adults. The journey shares not only newfound brotherly affection, but a group of elementary school children rooting them on, and the heartfelt stories of many connections along the way. 

In this episode, among other things, we get a unique perspective on travel; biking across the country, conforming in society, happiness in relationships, and ayahuasca ceremonies. We also broach the subject of social media’s long-term neural effects and get a round table of opinions. A hefty bus ride!

Adam, known to many as @Roothlus, is a professional poker player who exited a life on Poker’s biggest stage in an attempt to forge a new path. Though he’s taking risks in the entrepreneurial and marketing game these days, it’s his diverse skills from playing Poker and Magic: The Gathering that helped open the floodgates.  He’s quite the social experimenter, has some wild stories from his poker days, and is known to make a stir with his top 10 lists. Plus, he’s just much happier when he can share an opinion or two.

His most celebrated poker achievement undoubtedly had to come back in the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event, where he placed 12th overall. It wasn't just Adams audacious poker play that propelled him to fame but more of his casual celebrity run-ins, with the likes of Phil Hellmuth and Justin Beiber!

The Consciousness Debate. To have clear cut discourse we must first answer the question, what is Consciousness?  But that’s where we often get stuck, leaving further questions such as; Do we have a soul? Is there free will? Does God Exist? Can the body exist without the mind?   

This is probably the hardest introduction to make for any guest we’ve had, simply because words do not do this conversation justice. Here’s my attempt

Our guest is none other than Hare Krishna Monk – Jonothan Foley. He is an incredibly well-spoken and cogent speaker with beliefs rooted in Hinduism. Without a doubt his relationship with consciousness and existence will knock your socks off.  He is a twetny-two year old that lives directly in the Alachua Hare Krishna Temple in Gainesville, Florida. His time is dedicated to meditation and prayer, book distribution, and recruitment of new members (more on this later).

This verbally powerful and action packed episode shares his past life (as a misguided drug dealer) and describes how he embarked on his spiritual awakening. We talk about the role of the material world versus the spiritual world and Jonothan explains the misuse of free will. What about Love? He shares profound insight into true love and its battle-hardened cousin, lust. We were truly opened up by his controversial perspective. Jonothan also defines the position of desires and the soul within the body in relation to consciousness.

There is so much in this episode that writing here cannot do it justice. We do talk about the role of robots in consciousness and how the monks view artificial intelligence (our favorite).  And there is a surprise interaction to close the episode out. Whether you believe in God or not. We have no doubt each of you will take away something profoundly unique in this conversation
