Comics creator Matt Mair Lowery joins Sean to discuss his current Kickstarter-funded comics project, ThoughtScape Comics. They discuss the making of the anthology series, why an anthology is instead of a single story, and the series’ commentary on the current state of technology and the human experience.
Matt Mair Lowery was born and raised in Portland and studied journalism, design, and creative writing at the University of Oregon. He maintains (and sometimes tests) his sanity by nerding out with his children, running through North Portland's industrial landscapes, and overanalyzing everything with his wife. He wrote and co-created (with artist Cassie Anderson) Lifeformed: Cleo Makes Contact and Lifeformed: Hearts and Minds, which were published by Dark Horse Comics in 2017 and 2019. In 2021, Matt launched ThoughtScape Comics, a sci-fi anthology series in the tradition of 2000AD, Black Mirror, and The Twilight Zone, on Kickstarter. The project earned over $9500 and garnered over 400 backers. ThoughtScape Comics features stories written by Matt and drawn by an amazing array of indie comics artists.
