Are comic book sales doing better than ever? Or are they plummeting? Sean explores this question with guest John Jackson Miller, creator of the comics sales history website “Comichron”. John provides some insight on what we can and cannot know about sales, how sales have been doing in the last 20 years, and how new ventures like WhatNot and NFTs are impacting the sales of comics.
New York Times bestselling author John Jackson Miller has spent a lifetime immersed in science fiction and comics, both as a fan and as a creator. After working in fanzines, he joined Don and Maggie Thompson at Comics Buyer’s Guide where he also edited Comics & Games Retailer magazine, Scrye magazine, and the Standard Catalog of Comic Books series. Miller moved into professional comics writing in 2003 with Crimson Dynamo for Marvel, which led to a year of writing Iron Man. That led to a long association with Lucasfilm including novels, comics, and games. His Star Wars novels include the Scribe Award-winning Kenobi as well as A New Dawn, Knight Errant, and Lost Tribe of the Sith. He wrote comics for the latter two — and he wrote the entire Knights of the Old Republic comics series (available from Marvel as Legends: The Old Republic). He also wrote the comics adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Star Trek novels followed, including Picard: Rogue Elements and Discovery – Die Standing (both Scribe Award winners), Discovery – The Enterprise War, the Prey trilogy, and Takedown. For 2023, Miller has written the first novel for the Strange New Worlds series: The High Country releases on Feb. 21 in hardcover, audiobook, and ebook.

David’s books have been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, ComicBook.com, and io9, and have ranked on Barnes & Noble’s Best Comics and Graphic Novels list. His writing has been called “stunningly subversive” by IGN and “an absurdly good time” by Nerdist, while Syfy has described his work as “utterly insane or pure genius (or admittedly, maybe both).”
In addition to developing properties for comics, TV, and film, he has also worked for CBS, Netflix, and Universal Studios. Raised in St. Louis, David currently resides in sunny Los Angeles, where he lives with his understanding partner, their rambunctious terrier, and at least six deadlines.

Comics Creator and indie business owner Danny Quick joins the show to discuss his comics about Aceblade and the 4th Wall Universe, his journey in becoming a writer, making an Aceblade-themed escape room to create more entertainment opportunities for his community, and what his plans are for the future of his comic universe and his business. He and host Sean also share what they have in common such as their disdain for a popular superhero.
Ever since 2008 when he was deployed to Iraq, Danny Quick has been writing superhero stories and learning how to craft wonderful tales through the process of making comic books. He has a beautiful wife named Teyona and 4 wonderful children who also have characters in his little comic book universe.
He’s always believed that we can learn a lot through the stories we read and tell to each other, and he’s glad that he’s been able to share a part of himself through the characters and stories he’s created over the years.
Aceblade is his flagship character (The Purple Ninja Guy). He’s been writing Aceblade's stories for the longest and his themes of vigilance and the fight against greed resonate most with him in his real life. Aceblad is the main reason he started creating the 4th Wall Universe in the first place. He is loving this journey so far and he cannot wait to keep growing and learning as they do bigger and bolder things!
