    Since August 2013, Joseph Ingram has served as Senior Advisor and Chairman of Capitalis Investment Advisors, a South African-based equity group developing projects and structuring  financing for investments in alternative energy and agriculture in Africa. During this same period, he has been associated with the Global Growth Dialogue, a US-based group of prominent academics and senior public officials, dedicated to identifying best-policy options that sustain more inclusive economic growth. He has also advised the Trudeau government in Canada on a number of policy initiatives related to the Western Balkans.     Dr. Carolyn Washington is an adjunct professor in the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Program where she teaches the “Women, Disasters and Conflict” Course. She holds a Bachelor Degree in History from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC; a Master’s Degree in National Security Studies from the Naval Post-graduate School in Monterey, CA; a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from George Washington University; and a PhD in Global Gender Studies from SUNY Buffalo.
     
    Stephenie Foster is a recognized voice in women’s leadership and empowerment. She is currently a Partner at Smash Strategies, and is dedicated to advising businesses, foundations, and non-profit organizations on how to achieve better results by focusing on women’s leadership and gender equality. 
     
    Susan Markham is a passionate advocate for gender equality and female empowerment speaking often about the essential role of women in politics and development. With experience in over 50 countries, she is a strategic leader who is appreciated for her energy, straight talk and insight, connecting academics, activists, implementers and ideas across sectors.

    Rob Wright served as Canadian Ambassador to China from 2005-2009. He served as Ambassador to Japan from 2001-2005. During his appointment in China he was concurrently accredited as Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia. He retired from public service in 2009.     Jonathan Caverley is professor of strategy in the Strategic and Operational Research Department of the Naval War College’s Center for Naval Warfare Studies and a research affiliate in the security studies program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the inaugural director of the Bernard Brodie Strategy Group. He was formerly assistant professor of political science at Northwestern University, where he founded and co-chaired the working group on security studies at the Roberta Buffett Center. He previously served eight years as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and as an assistant professor of naval science at Northwestern University.
     
    Vice Admiral Paul Maddison (Ret’d) is a CGAI Fellow and Director of the UNSW Defence Research Institute. Although located at the UNSW Canberra campus, Paul is responsible for enabling, facilitating and integrating UNSW Australia’s ground-breaking defence research capacity across the whole of the university in both Sydney and Canberra. Paul is a graduate of Canada’s Royal Military College – St. Jean (1980) and served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 37 years. He commanded at all levels, both at sea and ashore, and retired in 2013 from his appointment as Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy. He also served as Canada’s High Commissioner to Australia. He is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College Command and Staff Course in Toronto, as well as the Advanced Military Studies Program. Paul’s decorations include: Commander of the Order of Military Merit (Canada), Commander of the Legion of Merit (USA), and Officer of the Legion d’Honneur (France).
     
    Professor Dr. Julian Lindley-French is a CGAI fellow, leading advisor, strategist, and author with eleven published books to his name and many articles who has four advanced degrees and has held three professorial chairs (Professor of Military Art and Science and Eisenhower Professor of Defence Strategy, Netherlands Defence Academy and Special Professor of Strategic Studies, Leiden University). He recently published a major book entitled Future War and the Defence of Europe for Oxford University Press with General (Ret.) John R. Allen and Lieut. General (Ret.) Frederick (Ben) Hodges

    Over a 37-year government career, Margaret McCuaig-Johnston served at the assistant deputy minister level at Canada’s Department of Finance, Natural Resources Canada, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and has had senior management positions at Industry Canada, the Prime Minister’s National Advisory Board on Science and Technology, the Ministry of State for Science and Technology, and the Privy Council Office. For the last seven years of her government career, Margaret was a member of the Canada-China Joint Committee on Science and Technology. She has had close relations over the years with China on other matters such as energy technology, manufacturing, industrial development, industry associations, and think-tanks.     Scott Simon (Ph.D., McGill University, 1998), Co-holder of the Chair of Taiwan Studies at the University of Ottawa, has lived in Taiwan for ten years and returns annually for field research. His research interests include Indigenous rights, development, the contribution of Taiwan to the Indo-Pacific, Taiwan’s international status, and Canada-Taiwan relations. He has written three books and numerous articles about Taiwan.     Ted Lipman’s career has spanned over 40 years as an Asianist; in diplomacy, philanthropy, academia and culture. One of a handful of Canadian students in China during the Cultural Revolution, after completing studies at Peking University in 1976, Ted embarked on a 35 year diplomatic career. Highlights include appointments as Canadian Consul General in Shanghai, Minister/DCM in Beijing, Director/HOM of Canada’s trade office in Taipei, Director General for North Asia at Global Affairs HQ and Ted’s last diplomatic assignment, Canadian ambassador to both North and South Korea.
