    In this episode of The Global Exchange, Colin Robertson explores the role of the sherpas with Senators Peter Boehm and Hon. Peter Harder, and Jonathan Fried.

    Senator Peter M. Boehm holds a Ph.D in History from the University of Edinburgh, a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Wilfrid Laurier University.
    He was Deputy Minister for the G7 Summit and Personal Representative of the Prime Minister (Sherpa) from July 2017, until his retirement from the public service in September 2018. Peter Boehm had previously been Deputy Minister of International Development, Associate, and, subsequently, Senior Associate Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.     Hon. Peter Harder entered the Upper Chamber in April 2016, as the first Independent Senator appointed under a new non-partisan selection process that invites all eligible Canadians to submit applications. He arrived in the Senate with nearly 30 years of experience in the federal public service, and a decade serving as a volunteer in various organizations and as a member of several boards of directors.     Lee Berthiaume has been covering foreign affairs, international development, trade and politics on Parliament Hill since 2006. Over the past 15 years, he has reported on a number of high-profile and complex military procurements, including the ongoing effort to replace Canada’s CF-18s and the federal government’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. He joined The Canadian Press’s parliamentary bureau in 2016, where he serves as the organization’s defence and veterans affairs reporter. 
    Amy McLeod was named Vice President of Corporate Affairs and External Communications at Seaspan Shipyards in September 2019, bringing over 25 years of communications experience in the technology and defence sectors to the role. Most recently, Amy served as Vice President, Strategic Communications and Corporate Diversity Officer at Mitel where, as the senior communications executive and spokesperson, Amy had global responsibility for all corporate communications. She began her career as a political staffer on Parliament Hill.
    Jason Haug joined the Ottawa Public Health team in 2010, after running his own health consulting business. In 2016, he started supervising with the Communications unit. They have been able to create new marketing channels, rebrand their tone, and become one of the leading health communications teams in North America.
