    Ciao Everyone!

Welcome back, in this episode I share with you how my motivation has been. On the 8th of March is International Women's Day, how is this da honoured in Italy?  Let's talk about sexism through Italian politics, but also through the Festival of Italian Music, the Sanremo Festival. This Festival although also evokes fun family memory, that I share in this episode. March 6th is Ghanaian independence day and in this episode, I tell you what makes me proud of my heritage, but also the work that Ghana still needs to do, especially to keep all citizen safe and fight neocolonialism. Part of my heritage is also my grandparents, I talk a bit about my relationship with them especially as a child of an immigrant in Italy.

  • Ep 10 Diasporahood: Nollywood, Unseen Diversity in Italy, Relationships with Tia Taylor

    Ciao,

Diasporahood is back with the one and only, Tia Taylor as a guest. Tia is a Black American Content Creator of Jamaican and Nigerian descent based in Milan. In this conversation, Tia brings a very unique perspective as part of the African Diaspora.  Did you know that Nollywood, the Nigerian film production, was popular among the Caribbean community? Tia shares a bit about that in this episode. She also enlightens us about the importance to invest in the future African Continent while creating the change of narrative of the diversity in Italy through the Instagram page, Colory. We also talk about the stigma around therapy within the African diaspora, and how was it possible for her to embrace the journey, thanks to her mother. Tia also spoke about her beautiful relationship with her partner and his Italian family.

  • Ep 9 BHM, New Government, Valentine's day

    Ciao there,

We are back with another episode. Life is filled with full circle moments, one for me was celebrating the culture of African descent for Black History Month. I left you with the Italian political drama and I'm back with some updates about the new government, it feels that we went back to 15 years ago, some old ministers came back and the sexism remains. By the way, let's address the elephant in the room: Happy Valentine's day! I have mix feelings about this day an in this episode I share why.

  • EP 8 Italian Politics Drama, Egos, Diversity quota

    Ciao,

In this episode, I try to make sense of the latest Italian Government Crisis in the midst of a Global Pandemic. Please underline "try" 3 times lol. Would we have a Third Conte Government?  We shall see. This Government Crisis exposed one more time how sexism is still embedded within Italian society, despite the higher number of women in the Italian Parlament. Did you know that Italy had a Black Minister back in 2013? Cecile Kyenge. How can we normalize diversity and inclusion? I drop my 2 cents on that too.

  • Ep 07 Eating vegan, "Soul" the movie, Monster

    Ciao!

In this episode, I share with you how my Italian self survived with no animal products and pasta for 10 days. Watching what I ate made me realised the importance of slowing down and appreciate the little things in life even while pursuing your passion, like in the Disney Pixar movie "Soul". Purpose can be amazing, but can it be damaging when we are obsessed with it? In the latest part of the episode, I share with you some thoughts about how sometimes we can be perceived inspired by my latest favourite song "Monster" by Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber.

  • Ep 06 Christmas traditions, Board games, Global Politics
In this first solo episode of 2021, I want to catch up with you on where have been during Christmas, the interesting tradition that you develop as a child of immigrants during the Holiday season. And here we are in 2021 that started with a bang, I could not help to reflect on the recent events that happen in Washington DC and how actually there are not really far from current Italian politics.
Well in this episode you will get to know a bit more of political Benny and on how religion often can't fix some issues, especially if it's only used as a tool for manipulation and oppression.

  • Ep 05 Diasporahood part 2 : loving Italy, Italian men, consciousness with Charisse Dunkley
When you are chatting with a good friend time flies, right?  This is exactly what happened to me and my friend Charisse Dunkley, Newyorker of Jamaican descent. This is why we had to have part 2 of episode 5.  Charisse shares a little more about how she felt in love with Italy. We give our 2 cents on Italian men and their love for Black women. Is it actual love or objectification? Also, Charisse had some questions for me on how conscious I'm about my Blackness.

  • Ep 05 Diasporahood part 1: being children of immigrants, being 30 and diaspora wars with Charisse Dunkley

Happy New Year people, Buon anno from Italy!

We are starting the year with a new episode for the Diasporahood segment. Today's guest is my friend, Charisse Dunkley, from Brooklyn New York. She's an amazing, supportive and positive human. She works in production, and she also happens to be a child of Jamaican Immigrants, that they moved to the US in the 80's. What similarities do we have growing up as children of immigrants in the US and in Italy? Do Black Americans have the same experiences, especially being children of immigrants?  We would answer some of these questions in this first part and we also try to settle some African Diaspora wars. We also touch on some life topics such as how does it feel to have just turned 30. It's going to be an interesting one.

    Enjoy x

  • Ep 04 Diasporahood: Being Afroitalians in London with Linda Okachi& JM Dieke
Ciao! A new episode with a new segment: Diasporahood. "Hood"'s the slang for neighbourhood which also means community.  In this segment,  I will in conversation with people from the African Diaspora and not only in order to build understanding and community.
My first guests are Linda Okachi and JM Dieke,  the podcast hosts of my favourite Italian podcast, @Vabbépodcast. In this conversation we will talk about:  how they created their podcast out of their friendship, moving to Italy with their family in their teenager years, identity and important family conversations about racism, identity (race, gender, sexuality etc..).
The most important question is about food, of course!

  • Ep 3 Football, K drama and Books vs Movies

In this episode, we start with an old passion of mine: football. Unfortunately, this sport keeps failing in addressing racism in an effective way and the UEFA match between Paris Saint Germain vs Istanbul Basaksehir reminded us that.  I may have also found a new passion: Korean drama! I'm currently watching Itaewon, a series that it's a bit different from the classic romantic K drama as there's a major focus on diversity and inclusion.  Recently,  I also finished reading  Crazy Rich Asians. Yes I know,  I should've read it before watching the movie, but still meaningful lol  Similar to Rachel Chu, one of the main characters, I had challenges about my identity and fitting in within my community of origin and I share some of them with you today.

    Enjoy!!!
