  • Episode 155: The Color of Different Compressors | MIDWEEK SERVICE | with Prentiss L. Thompson

The 5 types of audio compressors are VCA, FET, optical, tube, and PWM. Based on the DNA of analogue compressors, you can quickly determine the sort of sonic character they have, and how they will respond to the signal you're sending them.

    UAD 1176 Classic Limiter Collection

Bill Putnam of Universal Audio designed the original 1176, which went on to become the most popular compressor of all time. It’s known for its character and aggression. It’s no surprise that the Universal Audio plugin emulation of the classic hardware unit is a standout. The Classic Limiter Collection comes with three revisions of the 1176, each of which have their own unique sonic characteristics.

    Softube Tube-Tech CL 1B

Based on the award-winning optical compressor from Tube-Tech and founder John G. Peterson, the plugin version of the CL 1B is silky smooth and a nice mellower alternative to the numerous in-your-face dynamics processors listed previously. When I’m looking for a warm, somewhat subtle and musical compressor, I’ll very often reach for the CL 1B. Most refreshing about this plugin is that it usually takes very little time to dial in the exact sound I’m going for. With a few quick turns of the chunky, black (graphical) threshold, attack, release and ratio knobs I can dial in a transparent and forgiving compression sound.

    DBX 160

The dbx 160 is another studio staple, but with no attack or release controls. It is anything but transparent and I would never let it anywhere near my mix buss.

  • Episode 153: What is your perspective of your media team? | THE PERSPECTIVE | with Pastor Caleb Windley

Pastor Caleb Windley talks about our perspective, and that it is very much a reflection of who we are.
A Christian’s perspective is very much determined by his or her spiritual gifts. To the apostle Paul, John Mark was a liability, a man who could not be counted on, and thus a man who should not be taken along on a missionary journey.

  • Episode 151: Understanding Drum EQ & Compression | MIDWEEK SERVICE | with Prentiss L. Thompson

Prentiss L. Thompson illustrates drum EQ and Compression and how get to use these basic tools to create a full and dynamic drum sound for you church service.

Knowing how you want your drums to sound is one thing, getting there is the difficult bit. ... Besides setting static fader mixes, using EQ early in a drum mix is one of the best ways of getting your drums sounding great. Improvised EQ curves rarely help when starting a drum mix. Compression can be tricky, but it's one of the keys to achieving a modern drum sound. It's common to apply between 3-6 dB of gain reduction to the kick and snare. Toms sometimes get compressed as well, but it depends on how often they're used in a song. Listen, Laugh and Learn from these drum samples in this episode.

  • Episode 149: EP 91 | How to Remain during a Staff Transition

The CSP crew talks through the transition of team member from the AVL department and how to navigate  the emotions of the team that's left behind to serve. One of the most painful and personal aspects of a pastor’s ministry is the departure of church members. Of course, I am referring to  Team members who stay in the church community, not those who move out of town. Most leaders have developed a deep love for their team members. They care for them. They defend them. They are there for them.

Other Media members are often hurt when a member departs. The worship pastor is thus hurting because of the departure, and because of a concern for the morale of the remaining team members. Listen, Laugh and Learn as the Prentiss and Pastor Caleb give solid solutions.

  • Episode 147: EP 90 | WIFI for Church Live streaming

The CSP Crew talks about bandwidth for your church LiveStream and why. Understand the reason why your stream is weak or dropping out is a important part of troubleshooting.
Generally, the recommended internet speed for live streaming (480p standard definition) should be at least 3 Mbps. The minimum download speed also varies between streaming services. You may need a higher speed if multiple devices are connected to the internet at the same time.

Recommended audio bitrate is up to 128 kbps. Maximum resolution is 1080p, with 60 frames reproduced per second. Aim for an upload speed of 6 to 7 Mbps (although Facebook limits most accounts to 720p resolution). For 720p video at 30 or 60 frames per second, aim for an upload speed of roughly 3 to 4 Mbps

A good internet speed is anywhere between 50 and 100 Mbps. Speeds of 50 to 100 Mbps allow a few people to stream in HD or even 4K, stream music, game, browse social media, and work from home.

  • Episode 146: Neumann Stage Mic review | MIDWEEK SERVICE | with Prentiss L. Thompson

Prentiss L. Thompson reviews the famous Neumann KMS-105.
The KMS series links two worlds: it makes the delicate, silky condenser sound suitable for the stage in a sturdy package. While live microphones usually operate with dynamic capsules, we designed the KMS series as 'studio sound for the stage'. That’s why we chose condenser capsules. Due to their construction they capture the voice more vividly, with greater detail and a wider frequency response. This uncolored high definition sound doesn’t only convince on stage, it also delivers reference class sound in the home studio for vocals, acoustic guitars, and brass instruments with superior elegance and transparency.
