In this episode our intrepid hosts discover a world of pleasures great and small: a dispensary to call one’s own; a free-to-air drama worth watching; a rock biopic that puts that other one to shame; and a modern jazz composition for the ages (but be quick, because it won’t be there for long). Go on, get ye some culcha on this Queen’s birthday weekend.

In a jam-packed episode your hosts, man about town Andrew Young and The Age's Karl Quinn, talk Phoebe Waller-Bridge's magnificent Fleabag, the moment Naomi Wolf realised she'd got it all horribly wrong on live radio, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Andrew Sean Greer's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Less, and lots more. Plus, the perils of dining out on a Monday. It's all here on The Clappers.

Did "two-phones Billy" do for himself, as Andrew supposes, or did the odds Shorten against Labor because we're all so focused on the hip pocket? Are the GoT fans right to be angry about that finale or does it actually make sense, as Karl insists? And if you met a psycho like Archibald Prize-winning painter Adam Cullen would you spend four years in his company, as journalist Erik Jensen did for his book Acute Misfortune (now a movie starring Daniel Henshall and Toby Wallace), or would you get the hell out of there? No question is too big, too small, too obvious or too obscure for Andrew Young and Karl Quinn on the only pop culture gabfest from Melbourne hosted by these two.

Rom-coms are back, and in Long Shot - starring the unlikely (but not impossible, as the poster says) pairing of Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen - and Miranda Tapsell's charming Top End Wedding, Karl reckons the breadth of the form has never been more apparent. But that's not enough to convince Andrew, who prefers the blocky delights of LEGO Masters. But nothing could convince him to tune in to this never-ending election campaign. It's all here on your favourite pop culture gabfest from those two blokes in Melbourne, Australia.

Was that the biggest week ever for popular culture? Surely so. That massive Game of Thrones battle (if you could actually make anything out in the dark), that record-breaking Avengers film (and why it's bad for cinema), that blockbusting Lego TV series ... and International Jazz Day. Plus a fond farewell to RONE at Burnham Beeches, and the pressing question of whether Nina Simone was a pop singer, Yes, truly, it's all here in your favourite pop culture gabfest from two blokes in Melbourne called Andrew and Karl.

What we did on our holidays, plus Beyonce's amazing concert film Homecoming on Netflix, Marvel's Avenger's: Endgame, Lucy Caldwell's latest collection of short stories and, as always, a whole lot more on the world's greatest pop culture gabfest that's brought to you by two blokes in Melbourne called Andrew and Karl.
Karl Quinn: Beyoncé's Netflix concert film Homecoming is $20 million well spent

In which our heroes discuss the live-action remake of Dumbo (“Danny DeVito runs a small circus”, says Karl; “what other sort would he run”, snorts Andrew). Plus The Case Against Adnan Syed - aka the Serial podcast redux - and we bid farewell to another institution of Melbourne nightlife, the Lounge, and consider that astonishing finale of Get Krackin’. It’s all here in your favourite pop culture gabfest hosted by two blokes from Melbourne.

Karl has one of the strangest theatrical experiences of his life at Bin Laden: The One Man Show, and checks out the documentary about the sisters who ran the Gatwick Hotel before The Block did it over. He also watches the film adaptation of Patrick De Witt's The Sisters Brothers - an experience that sends him straight back to the book in search of answers. Andrew, meanwhile, lowers himself by engaging (finally) with the world of Married at First Sight before making a desperate and naked plea for gratuities.

Andrew sees soul legends Tower of Power live, at last; Karl reviews Muriel's Wedding: The Musical, and Us, Jordan Peele's follow-up to the phenomenally successful Get Out; Chloe Hooper's The Arsonist considered; plus, who is in the box seat to take over when Barrie Cassidy finally steps down from Insiders.
