Is there nowhere these chaps won't go in search of entertainment and a giggle?
In this episode Karl comes to grips with the inspired political satire of Sorry to Bother You and visits the subterranean lair of Nazi scientists in the horror-war-mash-up Overlord, while Andrew argues the case for not having your daughter make a documentary about you, especially if you're Quincy Jones, and takes delivery of his much-anticipated new oven.
Yes, seriously.
It's all happening here...

In this episode, Karl and Andrew cast their eyes, minds and tonsils over the Coen Brothers' Netflix movie The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Steve "12 Years a Slave" McQueen's superior genre flick Widows, and feast on live music at the Age Music Victoria Awards and at the remarkable concert-cum-dance performance staged by David Byrne and his 11-piece band. Turn on, tune in, don't drop out.

In which our heroes grapple with a documentary about jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan (I Called Him Morgan), a not-so-documentary about Freddie Mercury and Queen (Bohemian Rhapsody), a based-on-fact tale of an ageing bank robber (The Old Man and the Gun), and the Palme d'Or-winning (who cares, says Andrew) film Shoplifters, from Japanese director Kirokazu Kore-Eda. That's enough to keep you going, surely.

Karl catches King Kong in the Big Apple, and likes it more than some of New York's theatre reviewers. Suspiria is bewildering, and no amount of Andrew's ferreting around in libraries can change that. And Andrew thinks My Brilliant Friend just might be a book-to-screen adaptation he can get behind.

Back in 2000, Scott Ryan started work on The Magician, a mockumentary about a hitman called Ray Shoesmith that he wrote, directed and starred in. In 2005, the $3000 feature got a cinema release, and a lot of critical love. Then, nothing. Now, finally, Ryan is back, and so is Ray, with Mr Inbetween, a six-part comedy-drama that has won a lot of fans, earned a swag of AACTA award nominations, and has just been given the greenlight for a second season by American cable network FX. In this special episode of The Clappers, Ryan tells Karl Quinn where it all went wrong, and why he's still reluctant to believ it has all suddenly gone right.

In this episode Karl and Andrew get blown away by First Man, Damien Chazelle's brilliant new film about the NASA moon mission, starring Ryan Gosling as a taciturn Neil Armstrong.
Plus the wild ride that is American Animals, a based-on-fact story about an art heist at a US university that goes horribly wrong.

This week Andrew takes a trip to showbag nirvana, and gets in a pickle with the police, while Karl exposes himself to Tom Hardy's Villain and wonders if the world really needs 900 more Marvel movie characters. All in your favourite pop culture podcast from those two blokes in Melbourne, Australia.

The brilliance and range of Joaquin Phoenix is on full display in two movies Karl thinks are well worth catching: Lynne Ramsay's brilliant and disturbing You Were Never Really Here and Gus Van Sant's biopic of cartoonist John Callahan Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot. Plus the woes of the ABC, a unique Twilight Zone episode revisited, and Andrew rails against the bludgeoning hand of the censor (aka Karl).

Is it only acceptable to post images of a disgusting menu item if you've actually imbibed said dish? Andrew thinks so, but there's no way Karl is putting that thing in his mouth. Plus, the discreet charms of the bourgeois Ladies in Black, the gorgeous Leave No Trace, and the delightfully offensive Bald Archy Prize.
