The COD Casuals

Welcome to episode #236 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Boston Breach content creator Tyler “TDawg”. As our first returning guest in over 2 years, we have lots to catch up on regarding all things Call of Duty. From the success of Vanguard into Black Ops 6, to the battle between Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7, we cover everything that has been brought to our attention in recent times, and the direction COD has shifted to over the past few years since our last interview. We start with the recent success of Battlefield 6, and if Treyarch is going to take any lessons that can be learned from Battlefield, and then shift to overall where Call of Duty went wrong to create such a divisive playerbase. We cover everything related to the game, so be sure to check the timestamps to get our full opinions on each topic in this long episode!

Where do you think Call of Duty went wrong? Do you agree with Tyler’s opinion on the SBMM in Battlefield 6, and do you think COD should follow suit? What does Black Ops 7 need to do to maintain those players who are on the fence about BO7? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #235 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we start off with some news regarding Battlefield 6. By now we have had two beta periods, and the game has gotten great reviews so far. We share our opinions on this success, and discuss if COD should be worried or taking notes at the very least. With Black Ops 7 on the horizon, and the news about returning maps and concepts from older COD titles, we wonder if Call of Duty would’ve been better off as a single title, much like CS or R6. There have been many pros and cons to what they’ve done with a new title every year, and we share our thoughts on what has worked and failed. We finally end with a talk on being too busy to game, and how we’ve realized this as we become older and trying to balance life and gaming.

What are your opinions on Battlefield 6 so far? Do you think Call of Duty needs to take notes from this game for Black Ops 7? What do you think about COD stopping it’s yearly cycle? Is that what makes it more fun? Finally, do you feel you have less time to game as you get older?  Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #234 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we have the privilege of sitting down with Sam Nelson Harris and Adam Levin, two members of the iconic pop-rock group X Ambassadors. Though these guys spend more time onstage and in the studio than in front of a gaming screen, we get to hear Adam and Sam share their love for everything Call of Duty. From their first video games as kids, to managing to find time to play COD as an adult with responsibilities, we gain insight into the lives of two people who most would never think have any current connection with video games. This interview was a real pleasure for us, and we hope you enjoy our conversation with Adam and Sam.

What did you think about some of their answers to our questions? Did you find their answers relatable to your own life? How has gaming become harder for you to balance as you’ve gotten older? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! We want to again thank Adam and Sam for their time, and their manager Becky for making this all happen. Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #233 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we break down everything and anything that went down at EWC, officially closing out the competitive Black Ops 6 season. We had a great time watching this game throughout the year with many memorable matches, and EWC did not disappoint. We cover some of the major upsets that went down, the teams that shocked us the most, and how OpTic managed to come out on top yet again to close out one of the most interesting storylines in COD history. We give our thoughts on the big matches, and what we think are going to be the big questions going into this off season. Everyone is trying to build the team to take down OpTic, and the possibilities for new rosters are seemingly endless, and we have more free-agents this year than we have in a long time.

What did you think of the EWC event overall? Did you enjoy the format with multiple matches going on simultaneously, or did you find it too confusing? What teams exit shocked you the most, and do you think those teams are starting fresh with new players next year? Finally, do you think OpTic will stay on top in Black Ops 7, or will another team be formed and take them down?  Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #232 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we have EWC on the horizon to officially close out the competitive season for Black Ops 6. There had been lots of speculation as to which teams were gonna show up for the final tournament of the year, and which teams are in desperate need of a team change. Before this though, we cover the EWC as an event, and what we feel this event should include as time goes on. For a world cup tournament to live up to the name in our opinion, we share our thoughts on getting more players from a variety of countries involved in the league. This however has a few hurdles that need to be addressed first, and we give our opinion on how we think the league and EWC could have even more players from around the world competing at the biggest event. Finally, we give our EWC predictions in pool play, and who we think will be the winner overall.

Who did you have winning EWC? Was your prediction right?  What teams surprised you the most, both good and bad? Finally, what do you think about our discussion regarding more players from other regions at EWC? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #231 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we cover the announcement of the worldwide reveal of Black Ops 7, which is happening on August 19th. It is expected that COD Next will be taking place at the end of September, where creators get their hands on the game to test and showcase the multiplayer side. We share our expectations with this reveal, and how important it is for this title to live up to the expectations that have been set for it. We then get into the big news regarding the EWC, which is coming up this week! Coaches are now allowed on stage to communicate with their teams during the matches. This has left some divided, but most agree that this is a terrible idea, and we share our opinions on why we agree.

What are you expecting to see from the Black Ops 7 reveal? Do you have questions about the game that you want answered in this reveal, or are you going to wait and see what’s showcased at COD Next? What do you think was the reasoning for having coaches onstage at EWC? Is this a good move or bad one?  Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #230 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we start off with reminiscing over the older COD titles, and lead into a discussion over the older titles being more difficult, and what made them harder. We share when and why this changed, and how this has led to a shift in the type of playstyles that we have seen both casually and especially on the professional side. We then go into some big CDL team drama news, as we are nearing EWC. Lots of teams at the bottom have made changes, and there are rumors that the Carolina Royal Ravens may not even attend the event. We share our thoughts on these moves, and what we think of the Royal Ravens situation. Finally, we end with a talk about CDL player cards, and the whole concept of these as collectibles.

Do you think older COD titles took more skill than newer ones, or vice versa? Do you find watching current COD titles competitively more exciting, or did you enjoy competitive titles in the earlier days? What do you think of some of the roster changes being made? Will they have an impact for EWC, or will these teams make no progress? Finally, what do you think of the CDL player cards? Do you own any yourself? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week

Welcome to episode #229 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we cover the final weekend of CDL matches at COD Champs, and we have a lot to discuss. This COD Champs will go down as one of the most unpredictable, and honestly the most upset-filled in recent memory. With our prior major winners bowing out after only a couple matches of play, we cover what happened to these two teams, and cover the path as to what was needed for them to get a top placing at the biggest event of the year. Of all the teams to make a run, the Boston Breach made an impressive run to finish T3 at champs! We share our thoughts on this teams run, and what this means for their future. Finally, we cover our thoughts going into EWC as to what these teams will look like going into it. Will teams make a change, or will they wait until after BO6?

What did you think about the grand finals at champs? Did you predict it, or was your bracket completely ruined like ours? Do you think this cements OpTic’s players as some of the greatest ever? Finally, what do you think about the Boston Breach and their T3 finish? Was it luck, or have they shown that they need to stick together for BO7? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #228 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

In this episode, we spend our time covering our final week of the CDL season covering our final predictions of the matches, and who we think have been the most impactful players throughout the year as we look towards Black Ops 7. Our main focus for today is the discussion around the CDL future, and a look towards the path forward for some of these players, as many have an uncertain future within the next few years. We look back at our favorite content creators from back in the day, and share our memories of when these creators stopped, and who were the ones that were able to continue to evolve and thrive. Finally, we end with covering a debate regarding gaming/gaming content as a career, and if it requires skill, and most importantly, if it is more difficult than a “normal” job. We share our thoughts on this, and would love to know yours!

What do you think the future of the CDL looks like? Will it be around for years, or are they numbered? Will many pro players be able to continue to thrive in gaming, or will many have to look for a new career path? Finally, what do you think of the whole “gaming is harder than a 9-5” debate? Do you buy into it, or do you think each job has it’s own skill set and challenges? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.

Welcome to episode #227 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional!

We have finally made it to the end of the CDL main season. Champs is this week, and we finally get to see a conclusion to the season-long battle between FaZe and Thieves…assuming they are both in the grand finals. That being said, the hype and promotion for COD Champs has not been anywhere near the level you would expect for the biggest event of the year. We share our opinions on why this is the case, and give our opinions on what we think the CDL could do to be giving constant content during this long break we have been on. Finally, we close with our final bracket predictions, and give our case as to why we think we have the perfect bracket for the tournament.

What do you think is going on with the lack of CDL promotion? Does the CDL care, or do you think it's just something they need to work on for next year? What do you think of our bracket? Do you agree or disagree? What do you think is going to be the outcome of this year’s COD Champs? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! Hope you all enjoy the episode and we'll see you next week.
