In this episode, we continue on with our Race Conversations with an interview with Dee Dee Davis. This amazing woman recently received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, with the goal to work with at-risk youth in the Juvenile Justice system. She has spent a great deal of time growing in this passion through her volunteer work with homeless youth in addition to spending 30 years as a caregiver for the elderly. As a Black woman, Dee Dee has personally experienced injustice and has spent many years being a bridge builder in the hopes of serving those who also experience it.
We’re kicking off a series, Race Conversations, with Pastor Jonita Johnson (affectionately known as Mama Jay). This incredible woman is a preacher, mother, grandmother, author, and so much more - she even owned a company called Mama Jay's Lip Smackin’ GOOD Hot & Spicy BBQ Sauce and Rubs. What doesn’t this woman do?! Collide Founder and Director Willow Weston got the privilege of interviewing Pastor Jay about her experience as a Black woman in different parts of the country, how we can tangibly love one another better, and what it means to reconcile under the name of Christ.
This episode’s guest is a coach of coaches and he has so much wisdom to share. Corey Schlosser-Hall teaches and consults locally and nationwide on wholehearted discipleship, innovative leadership, and helping Christ’s church flourish in the 21st century. We chatted with Corey about helping people find their calling, how to heal after being wounded by the church, and thinking outside of the box about what church could look like. Listen in on this motivating episode!
There is something distinct and beautiful about the way different generations experience Jesus, practice faith, and partner with God to bring about beauty and healing in the world. Molly Martin witnesses some of these generational strengths and challenges firsthand as the Discipleship Coordinator for a young adult ministry called Ekklesia that seeks to show college-aged people that they are made good by God in order to go out and bring about good in the world. In this episode, Molly shares what she’s learned about how to reach and develop the younger generation in a way that is effective, lasting, and healthy (plus we discuss cake donuts vs. fluff donuts, the pitfalls of TikTok, and so much more).

What if our kids need less pressure to get everything right and more reminders that they are already deeply loved and created to matter?
What does it really take to help teenagers develop an authentic faith—and what if the answer isn't more rules, more pressure, or making sure they believe all the "right" things?
Brad Hauge has spent more than 20 years in youth ministry, walking alongside teenagers and helping them navigate faith, identity, anxiety, relationships, and the pressures of growing up. In this conversation, he and Willow talk honestly about what today's teenagers are facing, from academic expectations and social media comparison to anxiety, stress, and the constant need for validation.
Brad shares why he believes the church's most important ministry to teenagers isn't creating the coolest environment, but creating real relationships where young people feel known, valued, and safe enough to ask hard questions. He also challenges parents to rethink their expectations and focus less on achievement and more on who their kids are becoming.
You'll hear why Brad believes teenagers need space to wrestle with doubt, why forcing faith can backfire, and why parents don't have to panic when their kids question, stumble, or walk through seasons of uncertainty. His reminder? This is the long game. We don't have to manufacture our children's faith. We can trust that Jesus continues to pursue them.
If you're parenting a teenager, working with young people, or simply wondering how to help the next generation encounter Jesus in a meaningful way, this conversation will give you a fresh perspective—and plenty to think about.
Meet Brad HaugeBrad has served in youth ministry for more than 20 years and currently serves as the Director of Student Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington. He is passionate about student empowerment, authentic faith, and creating spaces where teenagers can explore Jesus without having to pretend they have everything figured out.
Brad is also a husband and dad, a writer for the Youth Cartel, and a longtime advocate for investing in teenagers through meaningful relationships. His experience has given him a unique perspective on the anxiety, pressure, questions, and spiritual hunger today's teenagers are navigating.
Key TakeawaysIf you're worried that you're getting parenting wrong or that your child's faith isn't where you hoped it would be, take a breath. You don't have to manufacture their relationship with Jesus. Love them, listen to them, make space for their questions, and trust God with the long game.
