  • Coming Back from Poverty, Teen Pregnancy, and a Mother’s Addiction w/ Kaitlin + Her Mom Christy!

This is an extra special episode because Kaitlin sits down on the actual Comeback Couch with her mom, Christy, ahead of Mother’s Day.

Christy has so many powerful comeback stories and is the definition of an overcomer.

She talks about the defeating words a school employee spoke over her when she got pregnant with Kaitlin in high school and how she has used that for good to speak life over the kids she now works with at the very same school.

They also talk about Christy’s difficult childhood, caring for her own mother after a stroke, suffering through her mother’s pill addiction, and eventually being the one to find her mother overdosed a few days before Christmas 16 years ago.

Kaitlin and her mom have a strong bond and it’s easy to see that her mom is a fighter and gives all the glory to God for that fight inside of her.

We want to wish all the moms a Happy Mother’s Day and acknowledge the ones grieving today over the loss of a mom or the distant relationship with a mom. We are also praying for the ones desperate to become a mother. We see all of you and sit with you in the pain. We hope today can be a day of reflection, celebration, or silence – whatever you need it to be.

  • Coming Back from Wild Defeat to Walk Boldly in Your Calling w/ Jess Connolly

Buckle up because this one is good!

We kick off Season 2 with a bang as Kaitlin talks with one of her favorite people and someone she credits for commissioning her to start The Comeback Couch Podcast.

It was in Jess’s Charleston-based office during a coaching session in September 2022 that the idea for The Comeback Couch was born. And as you hear Jess pour out her wisdom, you will understand the kind of encourager she is.

If you are in a season of defeat, remember that your intense weakness will lead you to devotion. It may look like you’re pressed and crushed, but you can claim that this is your comeback.

Just like the Israelites, we might have to put our feet in the water before the sea parts. We need to stop giving the enemy ammo to attack us by speaking poorly about ourselves. Instead, let’s speak truth even before we feel it.

You do not want to miss this episode and you do want to take plenty of notes!

    More About Jess:

Jess Connolly is a woman who wants to leave her generation more in awe of God than she found it. She is passionate about family, God’s Word, and seeing women take their place in the kingdom. She’s an author, a church leader, and a coach. She has written nine books - including Wild and Free with Hayley Morgan, You are the Girl for the Job, and Breaking Free from Body Shame. Jess and her husband Nick live in Charleston, SC where they’ve planted Bright City Church. They have four wild and hilarious kids: Elia, Gloriana, Benjamin, and Cannon. They also have an unruly dog named Deacon.

  • Coming Back from Doubt and Deconstruction to Find a Firm Foundation w/ Jennifer Dukes Lee

This episode is one where you’ll definitely want to take notes. Jennifer is a wise thought-leader, writer, and lover of God. She’s also someone who has encouraged Kaitlin immensely in her own writing and faith journey.

As a former journalist, Jennifer says, “I began to look to God for answers, interrogating him in the same way that I interrogated police chiefs, presidential candidates, and unsuspecting dinner guests. What I found awakened me to the unrelenting love

of God, who has never indicated a distaste for my questions.”

Her questions led her to a deep-rooted relationship with God and she reminds us all that God is not afraid of our wonderings or ponderings.

    About Jennifer:

Jennifer Dukes Lee is a bestselling author, thinker, and question-asker from Iowa. Her friends say they are scared to sit alone in a room with her because they end up telling her things they never intended to say. She is both proud of this fact and also a little annoyed at how nosy she can be. She put a bunch of her favorite questions into a journal called Stuff I’d Only Tell God. It’s like your own little confession booth. She’s also the author of Growing Slow and It’s All Under Control. Learn more at jenniferdukeslee.com.
