  • CC 042: Content Marketing Measurement: Reporting The Metrics That Matter With Rand Fishkin
Welcome to show 42 of the Content Champion podcast. In this episode, it’s my honour to be speaking with ‘the’ Rand Fishkin of Moz.com and Inbound.org fame – about how to measure the success of our content marketing campaigns. Trust me, this is one show you don’t want to miss…

    Listen to the podcast

It’s hard to know where to start with the superlatives when it comes to Rand Fishkin. We all know he’s a highly successful Internet entrepreneur, blogger, author, podcaster and speaker – and a master of all things content, search and social.
But for me he’s also one of the first people I started to follow online – over ten years ago infact when I was a newbie copywriter.
Back then I read just a few blogs, including SEOMoz as it was then and Copyblogger too – so to host Rand on the show is a bit like inviting royalty round for tea (and then actually having them turn up).
Rand is a really down to earth guy and his expertise in this field is second to none, so I tried to cover as much ground as possible in our half hour chat. The result is a podcast that I know you’ll gain a great deal of value from.
During the course of the show we covered the following fascinating topics:

    * How Rand got started online and the history behind Moz
    * The reasons why content marketing definitely does work and can be measured
    * Problems with the ‘content-click-conversion’ model and what we should be measuring instead
    * How to attribute a value to the various content touchpoints on the way to a conversion
    * The importance of building online trust and authority at the various stages of your funnel
    * Why you can’t measure what you don’t have: Rand’s top traffic tactics
    * How to get buy in from the C-Suite so you can report the metrics that matter
    * Which analytics tools to use in measuring our success
    * How to connect with Rand on his blog and social media

Plus! The PS Question! Rand gives us a great resource to help us get started with content marketing measurement right after the show!

  • CC 040: Building Relationships: Successful Traffic Tactics With Andrew McCauley
I can’t believe we’re already up to episode number 40 of the Content Champion podcast, it’s been an amazing journey already. This time, I’m thrilled my guest is the ‘Social Media Bloke’ himself, Andrew McCauley of Autopilot Your Business.

    Listen to the podcast

A highly skilled digital marketer and social media expert, Andrew is also a talented podcaster, prolific author and a regular on the speaking circuit.
The post we did together on how to triple your traffic with Twitter is still one of the most viewed on this site – so when Andrew agreed to be my guest on the show I was really delighted.
It’s fair to say that what Andrew doesn’t know about generating traffic is quite simply not worth knowing, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to discover what’s working right now in terms of techniques and tactics he’s successfully using.
Andrew is a laid back guy who was very generous with his time for this call – and the value he delivers should provide you with enough ideas to really start shifting that traffic dial.
Our chat included the following areas:

    * How Andrew got started in social media and digital marketing
    * Which social media channels are hot right now, and why
    * What proven SEO and link building tactics Andrew is using
    * A look at the podcasting and video work he’s doing to drive traffic
    * Offline tactics that are helping to generate online visitors
    * Why we need to get creative with our traffic generation techniques
    * What trends Andrew sees developing in online marketing this year
    * Where we can find Andrew online to access his content, products and services

Plus! The PS Question! We discuss a tried and tested traffic technique you definitely should be using!

  • CC 039: Content Ignition: The Content Shock Solution With Mark Schaefer
I’m thrilled my guest on show 39 of the Content Champion podcast is Mark Schaefer, the globally renowned marketing and business consultant, best selling author, educator and speaker.

    Listen to the podcast

In 2014, Mark coined the term ‘content shock’ to describe the saturation point in content production that was being reached as content marketing grew in popularity.
His article on the subject caused a fair few waves across the marketing community – because everyone knew he was right. Marketers were becoming genuinely worried about getting their messages heard through the deluge of online content pumped out everyday.
One year on, Mark has revisited the theme – and this time he’s come up with a solution to content shock, called ‘content ignition’ – and his take on this is something every marketer should hear.
With a book on the subject coming out soon – entitled ‘The Content Code’ – Mark took the time to outline his ‘antidote to content shock’ in this fascinating half hour show.
Our discussion covered the following subjects:

    * Mark’s backstory and how he got started in the industry
    * The definition of content shock and how it applies to content marketing
    * Whether content marketing still works – or has it already peaked?
    * An introduction to content ignition and how it can make your content marketing more successful
    * Practical ways to ignite our content from Mark’s new book
    * The importance of trust in content marketing
    * What will happen to businesses that don’t take this approach onboard
    * The trends Mark sees developing in content marketing this year
    * Where we can find mark online, listen to his podcast, read his blog and buy his books
