  • Three Thousand Years of Longing review
Week 2 of Idris Elba Fortnight on The Countdown, sees Paul and Wayne checking out the George Miller film, Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Just about no-one has seen this film about a Djinn in a bottle and the Narantologist who finds him, so this may be the least downloaded review in the history of the show. But, damnit, we committed to more of Idris Elba - even though he doesn't rap in this film either - so we're sticking to that commitment, and maybe, just maybe, it will be a patch on Miller's last film, Mad Max: Fury Road.

But this one is a very different beast from that film and even last week's show? (Ha!) So is it worth a watch? Find out as The Countdown continues ...

  • Top 10 Movie Mentors
    Countdown #388

It's kind of ironic that the boys feel qualified to talk about movie mentors, as they're consistently equal parts bemused and mortified that anyone listens to anything they have to say re movies and (sometimes) television, but after 387 completed Countdowns, here we are.

They straight away make the controversial decision to jettison Yoda from their lists as the all too obvious Number One, but in a show with a large amount of crossovers, should they have consulted more heavily before starting to record? And do either Wayne or Paul bother to include Obi Wan in Yoda's place?

It's an episode sure to upset the casual Star wars fan, but does Star Trek even get a look in? Find out as The Countdown continues ...

  • Beast review
It's Idris Elba fortnight here on the Countdown, and the first of the two releases he stars in that Paul and Wayne are covering is the latest human vs nature film, Beast.

Wayne couldn't even remember the show was covering this one, so had no expectations, while Paul was hoping for some lion-caused carnage. Was either host surprised? Does the lion bring a sleeper hit tonight? (Sorry.)

  • Top 10 Movie Stunts
    Countdown #387

This week Paul is throwing himself from the bonnet of one speeding car to another, while Wayne is considering how to fly an F-14 beneath a low hanging bridge (not a euphemism), as both bring you their Top 10 Movie Stunts!

One host leaves out Jackie Chan and the other eschews all James Bond stuntd? Who will offend the masses and who will walk away with all their bones intact? ... As The Count own continues ...

  • Prey review
Wayne and Paul can barely believe they're agreeing on a Predator film. But here they are, reviewing what is effectively Predator 5 in the form of Prey from co-writer and director, Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane).

Paul notoriously enjoyed Shane Black's The Predator (he's that much of an apologist for the series), but Wayne continues to carry an inexplicable torch for Predator 2. So you have to ask yourself: How much can I trust these guys when they both love a Predator film?

The answer is: You're only asking yourself NOW whether you can trust these fools?

Decide for yourself whether your trust is misplaced as The Countdown continues ...

  • Top 10 Pet Sidekicks
    Countdown #386

Strap yourselves in good listener, because this one goes considerably off the rails!

Who doesn't love a loyal dog, a noble horse or a fearless cat? With that in mind, it's time to honour the very best pet sidekicks that the movies have presented to us over the years. The only problem is, Wayne screwed up the recording date and so had less than an hour to prepare his list!

Chaos ... and the most over-worked joke in the history of podcasting ensues.

  • Nope review
Jordan Peele is back with his latest film, Nope, and everything about it is so secretive, it's difficult to make a wry observation about it at this point in the episode description. So instead, remember that Wayne disliked Us, while Paul was a fervent defender - so who is going to dig this one more and who will be doing everything they can to resist saying Nope to Nope?

  • Top 10 Unsexiest Sexy Scenes
    Countdown #385

There have been many awkward episodes since The Countdown began, and this one will most definitely go down in history as a top five contender. Because this week the guys are counting down the sexy scenes they found to be completely "unsexy", cringe-worthy and awkward.

Marvel as Wayne describes his first R rated theatre going experience. Be wowed as Paul tries to be amusing while describing the sex scene from Splice. And sake your head in consternation as the guys get ever closer to their cringe-filled number ones.

  • Bullet Train review
One of the guys' most hyped films of the year leaves the station this week, and of course, Paul and Wayne weren't going to miss out on a first class seat on it. But does David Leitch bring the magic of the best of Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde to this feature? Or is he still channeling the horrendous Hobbes and Shaw? And is Brad Pitt all that Wayne wanted him to be in this one? Or is Negatron back?

  • Top 10 Unlikeliest Heroes
    Countdown #384

This week the guys set themselves a bit of a challenge when they countdown their top 10 unlikeliest movie heroes.

Now this is a topic that could have gone oh so many ways, so it may be a surprise to learn that for the most part, Wayne and Paul have managed to keep to the essence of the brief, even if they did not agree beforehand on what parameters were acceptable.

Oh sure, Wayne goes for a character who hooks up with an older person, while Paul talks about more than one Edgar Wright film, but beyond that, there are very few moments where Paul gets bent out of shape, even if that may only be because Wayne is still getting his head around sounding ...
