By the age of twelve, he was already playing guitar and singing alongside his mother at schools, county fairs, senior centers, and community events. Influenced by legends such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Huggard, George Jones, John Denver, and Pete Seeger, Johnson developed a deep appreciation for storytelling through song.As a teenager, he played in school bands before forming his own country rock group. During college, he fronted a local band called Border Tones before pursuing solo performances throughout Southern California. His journey eventually led him to Los Angeles, where he attended Musicians Institute and joined a booking agency that sent him across the country performing corporate events and hotel engagements.While the experience sharpened his skills as a performer, Johnson ultimately felt pulled toward creating music of his own."I really wanted to get back to doing my own music," Johnson recalls. "I didn't even have a house—we were just in band houses and hotel rooms all the time."Back in Los Angeles, Johnson built an impressive behind-the-scenes career, running sound for legendary venues including the Whisky A Go Go and the Roxy, managing backline operations for FM Station. Also, touring as guitar tech for John Fogerty, Styx, Government Mule, Lisa Marie Presley, Chaka Khan and System of A Down. While also performing demo vocals, composing commercial jingles, and providing voiceover work. He also launched his own equipment company, Hollywood Studio Rentals, Valley Production Storage and Drum Paradise LA before eventually purchasing the very Country music venue where he frequently performed—the famed Cowboy Palace.Through every chapter of his career, songwriting remained a constant.
