U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams insists vaccines will be ready for distribution stateside in the coming weeks. We'll also review the murder of Oregon's Aidan Ellison, who was fatally shot by a White man for playing loud music. Apparently, there was lots of Black Male Privilege to report. The promise of vaccines has done nothing to stop the reported rise of Covid-19 cases in the U.S. With increased restrictions, businesses across the country are instituting new measures to maintain safety. The continued commerce disruptions have drastically altered the holiday shopping season and have some entrepreneurs questioning if they'll be able to remain in business. We survived a year of the rona and one holiday season only to land in the middle of another celebration. We'll emphasize the importance of not being reckless and/or intoxicated at "holiday parties" connected to your job. These rules would apply even if you co-workers launch a virtual party via computer. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the second study session on Jeffrey Toobin's The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. This 1996 New York Times bestseller enjoyed two different waves of success. It was critically acclaimed during the initial mid-90's publication, and it found re-newed success following the wildly successful 2016 FX miniseries - which is based on Toobin's work. Toobin enjoyed three glorious decades of journalism, spawned from his coverage of the Simpson trial. He wrote beloved books on the Supreme Court and authored a scathing indictment of President Donald J. Trump. Things were triumphant until the year of the rona. While participating in a live Zoom conference with prominent White journalists, Toobin exposed his penis and began masturbating. He was initially suspended by the New Yorker. After a weeks of investigation, Toobin was fired. We'll keep this in mind while reading Toobin's account of the most well documented, most watched court trial of all time. During last week's session we learned how the police discovered the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in June of 1994. They leave the murder scene to notify O.J. that his ex-wife has been murdered. When police reach the Juice's residence, Mark Fuhrman finds specs of blood on a vehicle and decides O.J. may be injured or worse. Fuhrman scales the gate, allows access to the other officers present, and proceeds to find a bloody glove on the property. All of this with no search warrant. One huge deviation between the miniseries and book is that the show opens with footage of the 1991 Rodney King beating and subsequent rioting. Many young people - and a substantial amount of older people - adore and are addicted to all types of junk food. Many of these poor eating habits are rooted in their first few years of life - including the womb. A year rife with loss and tragedy, the ledger or loss expanded. Former Mayor of New York City David Dinkins died at the age of 93. Dinkins is the city's first and only non-white mayor. Thanksgiving festivities and "Black Friday" consumption took place at a diminished capacity because of the coronavirus. Continued reports of three separate vaccines that appear to be effective in combating Covid-19 nourished hope for better days and concern about distribution of the vaccine. A number of reports indicate that black people in the U.S. are allegedly resistant to the vaccine. Many U.S. states and other international regions announced a fresh round of lockdown measures to help reduce the influx. Schools, jobs and even the so called Thanksgiving holiday has been thrown into disarray. Former President Barack Obama discussed the election and his views on Racism/White Supremacy in a memoir that reflects on his time in the White House. Even after the death threats and Trump's presidency, he continues to hold tight the narrative that younger White people are becoming "less racist". Speaking of progress, the city of Philadelphia apologized to for bombing the MOVE organization in 1985. In between grappling with the conclusion to a tacky election season and the typical racist holidays to conclude the year, Covid-19 restrictions and infections have prompted renewed closures. Numerous businesses around the globe have been forced to close again. Restaurants are crippled, while bars, gyms and other "non-essential" establishments are forced to reduce hours or remain shuddered completely. Several C.O.W.S. listeners report having their hours reduced and/or their typical work schedule drastically altered in response to the new round of restrictions. If there's a silver lining to all this, many non-white people may escape the customary crude celebrations for "turkey day" and White Jesus's birthday. However, there may still be calls for gift exchanges and holiday gatherings up some sort via zoom. Gus would encourage skipping all virtual holiday parties as well.
