This episode, we share a quick story from a good friend and wrestling coach who shared a pic of him running in a marathon. In the picture, there was a kid running right behind him, keeping up the pace. This provided a great topic that is applicable to anything in life. You can either set your own pace or life will do it for you. Could we create more intention and awareness in our lives, rather than feeling like we have to compare ourselves to someone else to win?

This scholarship is in memory of my mother, Shellry Langford, who passed away suddenly in 2023. She was a very creative individual in her own right and one of his first art teachers, and in doing so, she allowed Quantal to help and inspire aspiring creators.

This scholarship was set up and is funded by her sons, Quantal Langford and Dominique Craigmiles. We honor her legacy by bestowing a $250 annual arts scholarship, on four students who have the passion, energy, and creativity to pursue the arts in higher education.

Requirements:

Must be a senior in high school with plans to pursue the creative arts in college.

Submit 2-3 pieces of your personal work (must be jpgs)

Type a one-page document or a 3-minute video on how the arts have impacted your life.

Amy Forsythe is an award-winning military journalist who served five combat tours supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and has been on assignment for several other overseas missions. Amy started her career as a U.S. Marine combat correspondent in 1993 and currently serves as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her imagery taken while covering military operations around the world has been featured in numerous international and national media outlets through the years and continues to be used for historical purposes.

Amy recently published a book titled 'Heroes Live Here' which showcases the history of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and she was recently inducted into the Women's Museum of California 2023 Hall of Fame for the Historian category.

On this new episode, this was taken from a recent conversation from me and fellow wrestling coach and creative. I alluded to the concept of a bird and its nest, and if you try to enable and help the baby bird before it hatches, you could cripple or kill it. Likewise if you allow it to chip away everyday and absorb all the nutrients and strength it needs it will break out of its own shell into the world. This is relatable to our lives, career, coaching or creative work.

If we allow everyone to bust us out of own shell, we may not be ready for what life gives us-good or bad.
