The Cross-Check NHL Show

Sidney Crosby just turned 34, and we're rattled by that. For most millennials, the players they grew up watching in the NHL are close to ending their careers. For the dawn of analytics in hockey, most of the players who were boosted by the numbers people are on the decline. How does that impact modern analysis, and was this the greatest generation of hockey players ever?

Mary Clarke and Andrew Berkshire strive to answer those questions, and start an ambitious project to preview every team in the NHL before the regular season starts by interviewing the Locked On local experts!

We start the Cross-Check Summer Crossover today by interviewing Jon Chik of Locked On New York Rangers, and Jay Forster of Locked On Blue Jackets. Who's in, who's out? How much have their teams changed? What are the expectations for 2021-22? Find out the answers for every team by listening to the Cross-Check NHL Show.

On today’s episode of The Cross-Check NHL Show, Andrew Berkshire and Mary Clarke discuss NHL players who could be set to rebound next season after down years. Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers is key to his team’s success and must have a better season for his team to be competitors. Other players who need bounce back seasons include Patrik Laine, Nick Ritchie, and Sam Reinhart.

Next, Andrew and Mary provide an update on the Evander Kane saga, as it has been reported that his San Jose Sharks teammates do not want him back for next season. Could Kane’s time in the NHL be finished, especially considering he’s taken a leave from the Hockey Diversity Alliance.

Plus, Nathan MacKinnon might have gone off the deep end with his training regimen, as according to Nikita Zadorov, the Colorado Avalanche captain might be a bit too… intense, to say the least.

Finally, Andrew and Mary wrap up the episode with Simone Biles praise and a review of Bo Burnham: Inside.

This week on the Cross-Check NHL Show Andrew Berkshire and Mary Clarke start the show with breaking news from the Blackhawks' sexual assault scandal, before diving into yet another controversy for Evander Kane. Kane's wife leveled a series of serious allegations against him over instagram, and the NHL is investigating.

Heading into next season, is the Western Conference bad? Outside of the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights, are any teams in the West better than mediocre? How many would even make the playoffs in the East?

Jack Eichel's agents have made their disagreements with the Buffalo Sabres and frustrations with Eichel's status public. Does this pressure force a trade, or make one less likely?

Finally, the hosts break into some Olympics talk to finish off the show.

Today on the Cross-Check NHL Show, Mary Clarke and Andrew Berkshire decided there was too much news from the NHL's busiest day on the calendar to bring in a guest, so we're bringing you an hour long episode on Free Agent Frenzy!

To start things off, Andrew and Mary discuss another NHL franchise shooting themselves in the food from a brand and PR perspective, as the Carolina Hurricanes opted to sign Tony DeAngelo. Why would a team take a risk on a player who was literally kicked off his last team mid-season?

From there, the hosts break down the biggest names moving on Free Agency day, including Dougie Hamilton to the New Jersey Devils, Phillip Danault to the Los Angeles Kings, and whatever it is the Philadelphia Flyers are doing, before finishing off the segment with rapid fire reactions.

To wrap things up, Mary and Andrew discuss the bevy of moves the Seattle Kraken made, and ask if their first taste of free agency can make them a contender.

Mary Clarke and Andrew Berkshire start the podcast off by recapping the 2021 NHL Entry draft, with a specific focus on the Montreal Canadiens ruining it by making the tone deaf decision to pick Logan Mailloux, and both Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins being completely unable to explain why they were comfortable making that move.

Moving into hockey related news, the hosts look at the rapid fire trades the Philadelphia Flyers have made, following up acquiring Ryan Ellis and ditching Shayne Gostisbehere with acquiring Rasmus Ristolainen and Cam Atkinson while losing a high first round pick, Jakub Voracek, and Robert Hagg.

Other trades Andrew and Mary look into include the Chicago Blackhawks acquiring Seth Jones, the Vancouver Canucks acquiring Oliver-Ekman Larsson, and the Florida Panthers bringing in Sam Reinhart.

To close out the podcast, the hosts cue up the upcoming free agent frenzy, and talk about the Olympics.

The Seattle Kraken have chosen their roster from the expansion draft, and the NHL's trade freeze has ended. Andrew Berkshire and Mary Clarke break down as much of the hockey news as possible in rapid succession, including Shayne Gostisbehere and Alex Nedeljkovic being traded, and Shea Weber's career likely being over.

After breaking down trades, the hosts welcome Erica Ayala, the host of Locked On Kraken, to the Cross-Check NHL Show to break down the Kraken's draft strategy, expectations for next season, and the exciting and new approach they've taken to building their franchise, and marketing.

Andrew Berkshire has returned from vacation and rejoins Mary Clarke after a wild weekend of NHL news. First up, the pair are overjoyed to discuss Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop becoming the first gay hockey player on an active NHL contract and what it means for the league going forward.

Next, the Montreal Canadiens have exposed Carey Price for the expansion draft in a surprising move, but will the Seattle Kraken take him with his hefty cap hit and his reported injuries? The Canadiens were just three wins away from winning the Stanley Cup but injury news to Shea Weber and the likely loss of Phillip Danault has made for an unexpected teardown.

Andrew and Mary also break down the upcoming expansion draft, starting with the Ryan Ellis trade to the Philadelphia Flyers and what he brings to a team looking to jump back into contention. Which teams stand to lose the most in the expansion draft? Who are the best players available for Seattle to take?

Finally, Andrew and Mary end the show talking the season finale of Loki and the recent release of Marvel’s Black Widow movie.
