The Daily Beans

Thursday, December 18th, 2025

Today, Jack Smith testified behind closed doors before the House Judiciary Committee; House Republicans jam through their stupid health care plan without extending ACA subsidies, but Hakeem Jeffries got 218 members to sign a discharge petition for a clean 3 year extension of subsidies; Dan Bongino is gonna quit the FBI on the same day the Epstein Files are due; the Coast Guard goes back to designating nooses and swastikas as divisive rather than symbols of hate; a judge has blocked Trump’s limits on lawmakers access to inspect ICE facilities; measles outbreaks worsen in multiple states; the Department of Veterans Affairs plans to abruptly fire tens of thousands of health care jobs; Warner Bros. plans to reject the Paramount bid backed by Saudi money; an appeals court clears the way for Trump to keep National Guard troops on the streets in DC; DHS fast tracked a one billion dollar contract to a Trump donor; the Senate passes the National Defense Authorization Act that pushes Kegseth to release the boat strike video; Ghislaine Maxwell files a habeas petition challenging her incarceration; and Allison delivers and your Good News.

Good Trouble - https://near.tl/sm/ik-ZushRa
Our Good Trouble Today Comes From Jess Craven over at Chop Wood Carry Water
In the wake of yet another Mass Shooting at a School - Call your Senators and House Reps and call to reopen the Gun Violence Prevention Office which Trump Shut down in his first week of office. She provides a handy script to follow:

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m calling to demand that Congress act on gun violence NOW. Australia saw a horrific mass shooting this weekend and their government is already in action, preparing a special session in which they will tighten their gun laws. What are we doing here? 46,000 people die from gun violence every year in our country and Congress keeps refusing to act. It’s unconscionable. We want an assault weapons ban. We want universal background checks. We want safe storage laws. And we want the office of Gun Violence Prevention, which Trump shut down in his first week in office, to be reopened immediately. Nothing less will do.”

From Joyce Vance - a way to file a formal complaint against Emil Bove:
https://joycevance.substack.com/p/judicial-ethics
“According to The Judicial Conduct and Disability Act of 1980 … anyone can file a complaint about a federal judge. The Act establishes the process for making them. The Code of Conduct for federal judges says “a judge should refrain from political activity” and shouldn’t attend any events “sponsored by a political organization or candidate.” Judges are also charged with upholding the integrity and independence of the judiciary and avoiding impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all activities….”
"ANY person can file a complaint" Seems perfect for Beans listeners.
