ANC is retaining its grip on the Eastern Cape. As vote counting continues, the ANC in the Eastern Cape has garnered over 68 percent of the vote, followed by the DA with over 15 percent and the EFF with over seven percent in the province.

We are now in conversation with Premier candidate for the DA in the Western Cape, Alan Winde, who says they are optimistic that the party will retain power in the province. Support for the DA and ANC are down in the Western Cape according to the latest provisional election results. Vote counting has been completed in over 94 percent of voting stations. The provincial IEC is expected to give its final media briefing on the elections today.

For governments to function optimally there must be a good relationship between politicians and administrators. We are now in conversation with Tania Ajam, who is an Associate professor, in public financial management at the University Of Stellenbosch School Of Public Leadership. Professor Ajam says the uncertainty about lines of accountability, especially in relation to public financial management, arises in part from gaps with the existing legislative and policy frameworks. She says stronger laws can keep politicians from meddling in financial decisions.

The Independent Electoral Commission said 55% of voters who registered to vote are female and 45% male. In 2014 voter turnout was significantly higher among women than men, so we have been seeing more women come forward in the last years. The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says it will conduct an audit to establish whether there was double voting at specific polling stations. At least nineteen people were arrested in three KwaZulu-Natal municipalities for "double voting", thus far. This morning we are in conversation with Law professor Steve Cornelius, who last year resigned from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) disciplinary tribunal following the announcement of the new laws on female testosterone regulations. Recently Olympic 800-meters champion Caster Semenya lost her appeal against the IAAF's rules that entail female athletes with high natural levels of testosterone must take medication to reduce it. Professor Steve Cornelius, the Head of the Department of Private Law at the University of Pretoria, says forcing female athletes to take unnecessary medication is immoral. Semenya's lawyers are considering appealing the ruling.

The ANC is projected to win 57.3% of the national vote and will drop below 50% in Gauteng, this according to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The Freedom Front Plus says more voters are supporting the party because it keeps its promises, unlike other parties. The FF Plus is making a relatively strong showing in the national race for votes in early counting nationwide.
